What do teetotal people drink on a night out at the pub

This probably sounds silly but we are going out for DH birthday for drinks tonight.

I have decided to go teetotal so I don't really know what to drink in the pub that will be a long drink?

What does everyone drink who doesn't have alcohol?

Are there only fizzy drinks available?

He's having lager and I normally have wine so a new experience for me!

Sparkling water or lemonade with elderflower cordial, an occasional non alcoholic mocktail, seedlip gin and tonic. Flavoured tonic water

I don't drink fizzy drinks either so thankfully, no the only thing available isn't fizzy drinks.

Do you only drink alcohol? Surely there are other drinks you like. Have you never been out and not fancied alcohol or been the driver?

I have plenty of teetotal friends or friends who sometimes don't drink and they have all sorts such as non-alcoholic cocktails, beers, wines etc as well as fruit juices, flavoured and fizzy waters, things with added soda.

I've even been known to have a cup of tea instead.

Seedlip type drinks or 0% gins (non alcoholic cocktails), 0% beer?

hallenbad · 28/05/2026 09:17

I can understand the question as so many non alcoholic alternatives are very sweet (classic mocktails!) but things are improving now and there’s more choice

InMySpareTime · 28/05/2026 09:18

I drink tea when I’m out, more and more places serve tea these days, and there are loads of alcohol-free versions of a range of drinks.

DavidRosesEyebrows · 28/05/2026 09:19

I'm not teetotal but often don't have alcohol when I'm out. My go to is lime and soda - a pint with loads of ice if it's sunny. Much cheaper than diet coke etc and looks a bit like vodka and lemonade or gin and tonic (when it's not in a pint glass!) so avoids some of the repetitive questions about why you're not drinking and then people trying to persuade you to 'just have one'

WarriorN · 28/05/2026 09:20

A decent ginger ale is a good bet but to be honest I’m happy with tap water, ice and extra lemon if they can be persuaded. The sugar is the issue for me.

tonic and lemon is the other thing I go for. I don’t like artificial sweeteners so go full fat and make it last. Sometimes they can be persuaded to make that into a sort of mojito with some mashed up mint and lime

some places have canned kombucha which is the other thing I love.

wizbit93 · 28/05/2026 09:22

In this weather a non alcoholic lager shandy goes down a treat!

Girlking · 28/05/2026 09:22

If you don’t want to drink anything fizzy there are lots of fruit juices available and bottled non alcoholic fruit drinks

CreamFirstJamSecond · 28/05/2026 09:23

0% peroni or equivalent.

ilovemynails · 28/05/2026 09:24

Either lemonade with a dash of lime or apple juice.

theturtleswims · 28/05/2026 09:24

There are quite a few alcohol free drinks around now - gin, wine, cider, lager etc, and some places have really good alcohol free cocktails, which are often really tasty. Some wines taste better than others, and the only gin I tried I didn't like. I prefer long, refreshing drinks so there's a lot of choice for me. I think some alcohol free wines have come on a lot but I can't remember any particular good ones.

Fentiman’s ginger beer on ice with lime🍹

This is beautiful. I love a good ginger beer and this is one!

BridgetJonesV2 · 28/05/2026 09:26

My favourite is alcohol free wine with lots of ice and soda. Failing that, a Seedlip gin with diet tonic, lemon and lots of ice.

Chiefangel · 28/05/2026 09:27

Lemon and lime

Larrythecatforpm · 28/05/2026 09:28

J2o. I tend to avoid pubs though, when your teetotal they start to become stuff of nightmares.

BIWI · 28/05/2026 09:28

There are so many more alcohol-free (or low alcohol) drinks available now, and any good pub will serve some. There's usually a range of lager/beers - Heineken, Peroni and Lucky Saint are good.

Gordons make a 0% gin and Captain Morgan a 0% spiced rum, which are both good.

When I was pregnant I used to drink grapefruit juice with tonic - nice and sharp rather than sweet and cloying. (I assume you can still get grapefruit juice in pubs? That was a gazillion years ago!)

Foraor · 28/05/2026 09:30

Lots of decent non-alcoholic beers, stouts and gins around if you don’t want fizzy drinks. I’m another ginger beer fan, personally.

Kepler22B · 28/05/2026 09:31

Fake g&t are getting pretty good.

Also, fresh orange and tonics a nice bite to it.

Bottle green/ fentemans cordials are ok.

Sometimes I do go for a cuppa.

And if you aren’t drinking alcohol you tend to have a lot less to drink as you aren’t thirsty. So one drink lasts longer.

PrimaniTu · 28/05/2026 09:31

I drink J20 if they have them. Yes they’re a bit sweet but with ice can be turned into a long drink you can sip.

I hate concentrated fruit juices in a bottle there’s usually only a thimble full in those bottles. Failing that sparkling water. I don’t drink Coke but will have a Fanta Lemon if they have it.

JoeTheDrummer · 28/05/2026 09:32

I enjoy most alcohol free lagers. My favourite is the Corona one.

SpareVanKeys · 28/05/2026 09:32

Non alcoholic cider is nice when it’s hot

CheeseNcrackerz · 28/05/2026 09:33

Some places do nosecco now. Tonic water and fresh lime, mocktails if they are on offer, ginger beer/ale. AF beer. Soda and lime. A lemon lime and bitters is lovely. There’s many options nowadays.
