I’ve seen plenty of woodlice in my time but I have never had one that crawled onto me. They tended to be brown, brownish or light brown in colour
(Now I’m convinced that the word ‘brown’ is just weird.)
And sorry, this is not particularly helpful, but the photos do not look much like a woodlouse to me.

Too big to be a bedbug - I know someone who brought some back from a Paris hotel a while back - nightmare!!!!

I am guessing you might not have experienced the joys of a bedbug infestation at home, and/or are someone who doesn't react to their bites...very small lifeform; lots of upheaval, weeks of exhausting cleaning effort and sleepless nights accompanied by enormous, incessantly itchy welts (in my direct experience)

Yeah, I had a bedbug issue once, from a bedsit I was living in.Took months to deal with, really, really disgusting.

But bedbugs are small, kind of reddish brown and flat. Pernicious little things that leave sort of tiny inkspot like marks everywhere. That photo, while yucky, is not, thank goodness, of a bedbug.

That really doesn't look like a bed bug. I think it's a Ladybird Larvae. They look nothing like an adult ladybird!

Don't know if I have ever seen a bed bug. Not defensive at all. I just think that the increasing over-reaction as the creature gets smaller helps to continue the stereotypical image of a woman screaming at a mouse or spider and jumping on the worktop or a blokes back, as though said creature may devour her whole.

I agree with you, I don't think that this is a bedbug, it's the wrong shape.

Wrap the whole rucksack in black plastic bin liners and leave it out in the sun for a few days.

Alternatively, put the contents into secure plastic bags and freeze. Hoover the bag thoroughly, and contain in bin liner until it's next needed.

I'd have thought the same until reading the "worst things that have happened to you" thread recently, where a few posters desribed the traumatic misery of an infestation in their home. Once established, they are very difficult to eradicate and can cause painful bites. Allergic reactions to the bites can cause complications, and people lose sleep with the stress of being hypervigilant.

That said, I think this looks like a carpet beetle.

I agree with @SmashySmash about the supposed link to Uber use. Hundreds of thousands of people travel by public transport every day, sit down on soft furnishings in shared places such as libraries, cafes, schools; the percentage who make journeys by Uber must be small by comparison. Uber drivers tend to take meticulous care of their vehicles.

Fwiw, I know of four people who had close encounters with bedbugs (and one which turned into an actual infestation) and they were in connection with package holidays and one European city break (Berlin).

When you get home put your bag in the bath (no water) and unpack very carefully item by item shaking them to dislodge any stowaways.

That is 100% NOT a bedbug!!! They are nowhere big as that, it would be a little speck on your finger, not what you picked up

Fair enough. It looks exactly like the ticks we found on ourselves and our dogs when we were in the Black Forest last summer. But as I said, I doubt it's a tick unless it's one op brought into the room on herself.

I thought bed bugs were so small you can hardly see them. That seems like a giant.

I've still got the mouth parts of a tick stuck in me (as the GP didn't want to remove them), my sister was always getting them on the dogs she walks for work, maybe the Black Forest has mutant ones lol

No they get much bigger than that.
That’s just one species you have there.

They can grow into full sized beetles. Bigger than slaters.

Wash everyrhing at 60'c and then tumble dry on hot.

Things that cannot be washed on hot/ tumble dried go in the freezer for 5 days.

I’d defo be searching online as I thought bedbugs were supposed to be quite small and that looks big? I hope for your sake it’s something different, but either way really horrible. I’d definitely show the hotel manager tomorrow.

It is important to know that putting bags / books / anything in a deep freeze , lower than - 17 C for 5+ days will will 100% kill them , just as washing at 60-90C

If you need to quarantine large items . mattressses , camping stuff = you need to seal them into bags and place in loft for 9 months to be completely safe .... that is only if you can t wash them
