There is an app called iNaturalist where you upload pics of insects, birds, animals etc. I've done that for you and it's come back to identify it as a carpet beetle, OP. That is great news!

Megatominae a subfamily of the beetle family Dermestidae Household pest beetles.

I don’t think it’s a bed bug either. When I worked in a hotel we had training on this and that’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen, they are usually difficult to see. Regardless of what it is you need to complain to reception and let them know so they can deal with it and check the other rooms adjacent.

BeeHive909 · Yesterday 04:34

It’s a carpet beetle op . I saw loads of them over the years in Europe. Don’t panic

Loub1987 · Yesterday 04:39

It’s not a bedbug OP, still gross though! But you don’t need to worry.

Looks like a carpet beetle, OP. Sorry for scaring you! I'm paranoid about them, too, after that experience I had. The other MNers made me doubt myself, and rightly so, and now I think you shouldn't worry.

MN isn't letting me post a link but go to https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/health/health-risk-uk-carpet-beetle-2455917 and you'll see a big picture that looks what you're showing.

SophiePie · Yesterday 04:49

OP, there are bug identifier apps you can use! I tried to run your pics through, but it said they were too blurry. Maybe you could try them and see what comes up? Might be a pill bug or a carpet beetle instead of a bed bug, so try not to worry too much

I'm 100% confident it's not a bedbug. It's been confirmed by AI, my nature app and all of the photos online, other MNers etc.

So, that's great news! I'm sorry your sleep has been disrupted but, hopefully, it won't be when you get back home because you won't have to worry! ❤

I have had some experience with bed bugs, and I don't think that is one.

However, it's definitely better to be safe than sorry. If they get into your house, it's a major headache.

For what it's worth, the exterminator who heat-treated my house told me that the rise of Uber has contributed to the spread of bedbugs. Single biggest factor, he said.

Luckily they don't carry any diseases. They're just gross.

Anyway, the poster who said black plastic bin liners are going to be your new best friend was right. Wrap your clothes in bin liners before you pack them, wrap your cases in bin liners before putting them in your car. All your clothes need to go through the dryer on the highest setting - check the time needed.
Check on an exterminator's website for full information.

Sorry if I scared you, initially. My own fears and blurry eyes thought I saw what you and I were scared of but all is okay now. Hope you get a chance for a nap later!! x

That’s ok
it was my first thought ok as as soon as I got into bed right I thought I could feel crawling but then I thought you just being paranoid its. Perhaps just sand trickling on me
even though showered before bed
so when I woke ! From a deep sleep because I felt that thing crawling on my neck !!
striaght away in the dark, feeling that inbetween my fingers I thought I bet thats a bedbug

My first thought was carpet beetle too. They’re usually hairy like that when they are young. We had an infestation in the student halls.

I had bedbugs in a hotel on holiday once, I was a kid at the time but I remember the little buggers cause I had to deal with them the whole week and they kept going for the exposed skin at the ankle and waking me up. IMO if you have them you would know it because they bite and it’s itchy af.

pouletvous · Yesterday 05:22

Lift up the mattress, are
there others?

any marks on the bedding? They leave inky stains on the sheets

Amazing result from @WellFineThen . I looked at your photos and popped on to say the bug looks too big for a bed bug, and also not quite the right shape. Sorry for your lost sleep though!

CaptainBeefheartspal · Yesterday 05:25

That looks too big to be a bedbug.

LOCOJDS · Yesterday 05:36

That's not a bed bug.

Pugsrock · Yesterday 06:34

Hey lovely, I ran it through ai and it says it's a carpet beetle. No harm to humans. I would've been freaking out myself if I found that crawling on me. I would be asking for a refund because housekeeping definitely aren't doing their job xx

HoppingPavlova · Yesterday 06:56

That is not a bed bug thankfully.

I live in a country full of deadly snakes, deadly spiders and most things in the sea want to kill you. None of that worries me at all. But bed bugs😱. I won’t stay in accomodation that is not fully tiled, to try and lessen the risk. I’ll only place and open luggage on those special luggage holders that bed bugs can’t climb, so I ensure they have that also. Very happy to deal with snakes and spiders but taking bed bugs home is my worst nightmare.

nutbrownhare15 · Yesterday 07:05

I've experienced bed bugs and they were much smaller than that, even the larger ones. That's why they are so hard to detect and get rid of.

ForPinkCrab · Yesterday 07:07

Just want to say have a safe trip home and your mind is easier knowing it wasn’t a bedbug . I actually drove an hour to Bournemouth yesterday and spent the day on the beach . It’s worth the drive for such a gorgeous beach !

DisgustedinBournemouth · Yesterday 04:06

Thanks I’m in uk yes
in Bournemouth

I’ve only got a rucksack
I don’t have a garage but I do have a shed ? So scared about bringing this home potentially
I’ve got 3 swimsuits delicate tops
so will I need to wash them in ultra high as not sure that material will take it

Anything you can't wash on high put in the freezer for a couple of days.

Notmyreality · Yesterday 07:13

Its not a bed bug. Its a land hopper or
carpet beetle. Harmless.

SmugglersHaunt · Yesterday 07:18

I just put that image in Google images and it came back that it’s a lawn hopper. Looks far too big to be a bed bug
