Eee, you poor thing.

Tbh I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s highly unlikely they’ve got into it.

Just give everything a good shake outside and then the bag. If you have a shed or something maybe leave the bag out there till you next need to travel. You could hang the clothes on the line for a bit just to be sure. And if you’re still paranoid the. Give them a good hot wash.

Keep your bag closed if you stay in the hotel any longer and keep your clothes in it or hanging up.

Are you due to leave tomorrow?

WimpoleHat · Yesterday 03:59

That’s gruesome! With a bit of luck it’s something else - I think there are a few small intents which are sometimes mistaken for bed bugs. Wise to take precautions when you get home, but try not to panic. What a horrible experience!

My clothes have ended up in the chairs and the bag is open 😢

due to leave tomorrow
My child is still asleep

There’s no manager on sight just a 24/7 number To call

You'll have to look up online on what to do (the instructions are fairly vast and rigorous) but, basically, you're going to have to wash everything at a high degree of heat and put your suitcases in the garage or somewhere similar.

I experienced this in Malta, years ago, and it means that I can never, ever go anywhere without this fear.

Are you in the UK?

Sorry this has happened. My DC was 9 years old, at the time, and it was traumatising for me. I'd never even seen a bedbug and the hotel employees told me it was "normal" in high heat countries and to use PifPaf insect killer on the mattress which is what I caught them doing the next day! Apparently, that has killed some people!

So, don't panic and just return home and manage everything.

If it helps, we never got bed bugs at the house and we've never had the problem since.

I'm going away this weekend so TBC!!!!

You'll be fine but I know it sucks!

Thanks I’m in uk yes
in Bournemouth

I’ve only got a rucksack
I don’t have a garage but I do have a shed ? So scared about bringing this home potentially
I’ve got 3 swimsuits delicate tops
so will I need to wash them in ultra high as not sure that material will take it

Yes, def bed bug. You can put your clothing away with your rucksack for whatever the recommended timeline is if you can't wash it. We had to put a few things in bin bags but I can't remember for how long.

Burene · Yesterday 04:08

Are you certain it’s a bed bug as opposed to something like a woodlouse?

WellFineThen · Yesterday 04:10

Also, would recommend that you show that pic and the bug to the staff and get a refund.

If I put the rucksacks in my shed would I risk infecting my shed ?

Not if you put all of the stuff in a bin bag that you've sealed tight because they won't be able to get out of it so they will starve and die.

I know, I can’t tell from the photos, sorry.

I'm not an expert but I don't think that is a bedbug. They are not long enough to fold over like that. Hopefully someone will come along who can tell you for sure, but how horrible for you to be awake stressing about it.

Did you search around and under the mattress with a light for any more?

I am quite paranoid and always travel with giant bin liners which I put all my bags and other stuff inside and knot before going to sleep in a hotel. Then if there is a problem I only need to worry about the clothes I was sleeping in.

numberblocks54321 · Yesterday 04:18

It’s really gross whatever it is, but it doesn’t look like a bedbug to me?

tioelle · Yesterday 04:22

If you have a tumble dryer, you don't need to wash in hot water, an hour in a hot dryer is enough. Most fabrics can handle heat when they are dry even if they can't handle a hot wash. Again I am not an expert, this is what I have read.

WellFineThen · Yesterday 04:23

@DisgustedinBournemouth I've run it through AI and checked online and it looks like it might actually be a carpet beetle!!!!!

That’s such a good idea sadly my clothes are all spread out over a chair

Shall I try n get some better photos of it

OP posts:
Burene · Yesterday 04:25

If it helps, bedbugs have 6 legs and 2 antennae. Woodlice have more legs (14?) Plus antennae.
I can’t see clearly from your photo but if there are more than 6 legs it’s not a bed bug as far as I know.
