My daughter (20) became ill with sepsis in April and now struggling to walk properly. It’s been tough. My DH has planned a few days away but last night my daughter started coughing and I’ve been up all night worrying how to tell husband I don’t want to go away now. He’s desperate for a break but I don’t want to be 3.5 hours away with no phone reception.

Can you get someone else to sleep in and keep an ear open?

Birds woke me at 3.13.
Bastards

I hate when that happens. Blackbirds are the worst for that.

Seagulls here. It’s “shagging season” and they were at it from about 4am, dirty sods.

@lornad00m Iron levels do indeed have a huge effect on RLS - low levels can cause it, or you can have it anyway and low iron makes it worse. Appparently it's necessary for dopamine synthesis in the brain. I have RLS & have been told I need to keep my levels higher than average. One Dr said at least 50, another 75. Can't remember the unit of measurement which is unhelpful but I think 20 is the minimum for non RLS folk.

I couldn't tolerate ferrous sulphate, but I've been fine with ferrous fumarate. The liquid preparation (spatone) is even gentler but not sure it's available on prescription. Taking with vitC helps absorption.

Apologies if telling you what you already know!

No. That's really interesting. Have you found the iron has given you any relief from the RLS?

Just read this but last night i was late as i stood and watched the Aurora Borealis in the distance. I watched for over half an hour.

I have been awake for a few hours as my cat did not come home last night. She is normally in before 5pm but no sign of her.

Is she home yet?

Yes, definitely, although it hasn't completely fixed it, and I have to take it continuously.

My RLS was at the more severe end (symptoms all day in all 4 limbs) & I have other likely causes. Getting my iron levels up has mostly confined the symptoms to the evening. I also take Pregabalin which really helps.

At one point I switched to taking iron every other day and noticed my symptoms worsening. Although there is evidence that alternating days can improve absorption my Dr later confirmed it needs to be taken daily in RLS.

Also my iron levels were at the lowest end of the normal range, not actually deficient. Supplements would probably have a more profound effect in deficiency. For some people I think fixing iron levels can completely fix RLS.

Hope that's helpful.

My upper right teeth and my nose hurt. According to Google, it's likely a sinus infection or inflammation. I wish it would go away so I can sleep.

ScullyD · Yesterday 02:13

There’s a mosquito in my room and I can’t catch it! Feel so anxious about sleeping and being bitten. And yes I am in the UK…

Sally2791 · Yesterday 02:17

Anxiety. Spend multiple hours awake every night

raymanrules · Yesterday 02:31

Just had another nightmare and trying to distract myself from the feelings of it 😦

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · Yesterday 02:40

Small child being sick. She’s fine, but we’re going to do shifts. She has a tendency to cry for her dad when I am looking after her and then cry for me as soon as her dad walks in… she’s been asleep since 12 now so we should be on the home straight.

Sending a virtual handhold.

woke at 445, too hot and needed a wee. I’m going to get another coffee into my system and then take the dog to the beach for a long walk before it gets too hot

HelpMeGetThrough · Yesterday 05:36

Night bloody two of being in pain because of OTC painkillers not being strong enough. I guess it didn’t help that I was on a step ladder yesterday, cutting in a grey wall in the eldests room.

Done with this now. On to 111 shortly to get an emergency prescription of the proper stuff and then give Day Lewis a kicking tomorrow to make up the prescription they’ve had for a week. No way I’m having a third night like this.

Stoicandhappy · Yesterday 06:11

Went out last night and drank way too much alcohol. I don’t usually drink. Got home at about 1am. Up at 5am. Feeling 🤮

God I'm so sorry. That sounds dreadful. But I'm glad meds are alleviating the worst of your symptoms. And it's reassuring for me to know that I may get some relief if I get my iron stores up.
Take care. And thanks again. 💐
