Does anyone dislike David Attenborough

Butterme · 08/05/2026 20:09

I’m just wondering if there is anyone who dislikes David Attenborough.

I genuinely think he’s one of the very few people that everyone likes.
No matter how old, what class, what culture etc all I’ve ever heard is how much they love him.

It’s his 100th birthday today and if you google his name you’ll see.

I thought I’d do a poll incase anyone was too afraid of admitting they don’t like him 🤣

I love him and so did my grandma! I remember when I was younger showing a David Attenborough documentary to a friend on a play date and she looked bored and asked if we could watch cartoons! 🤣

I once showed one to animal loving 4 year old cousin. Should probably have anticipated what was going to happen to the cute looking baby seal when it came on screen. Fortunately she wasn’t completely scarred.

SerafinasGoose · 08/05/2026 21:50

Certainly not. I grew up on a diet of his programmes and have felt him almost as a constant. Nature and the natural world have always been my solace. He - and my reading - have been an integral, lifelong part of that.

An incredible legacy to leave the world is that you made people's lives richer, more educative, and generally better. He has made an enormous contribution and is really culturally significant to this nation.

Daisyhon · 08/05/2026 21:50

I can’t watch nature documentaries as I find the sometimes brutal demise of the animals tough to watch . Not something I enjoy but I get why people love him & there is something soothing about his voice .

SmashThePatriarchy · 08/05/2026 21:52

I pressed the wrong button as it was a different title. I love him!

Toobero · 08/05/2026 21:52

My mother once told me she thought he was a pervert - all that talking about animal shagging. She doesn’t watch him. 😂

Absolutely - to me that’s the privileged bit - I think like John Simpson he admits he was far from a good father - and for DA it’s a regret and John Simpson I believe

yea his wife totally picked up the slack - he must have always been away or be thinking about work when at home - it’s interesting we never see his kids - they don’t seem to be featuring In Thai programme either - I think his son is in similar profession but in Australia - wonder if he went to get away or establish his own reputation

yes he got to sink himself into his love while a women did the remaining mundane practical holding the family bit - sad

Surely in large part that is just a product of his time and age? He married in 1950, when raising kids was seen as women's work by most.

His children must be approaching or past retirement age themselves.

HoraceCope · 08/05/2026 21:47

His wife died in 1977

1997

UggyPow · 08/05/2026 21:57

I knew someone who despised him, however they were related to David Bellamy & his career was seriously affected unnecessarily by some things DA said about him, particularly when you think they were both environmentalists

HoraceCope · 08/05/2026 21:57

LaburnumAnagyroides · 08/05/2026 21:57

1997

Oh my 👀,

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/05/2026 21:59

BeaPerry · 08/05/2026 21:49

Of course - attenboroughs are as nepo as any other celebs -
just because he is :
elderly
white
male
middle class
BBC
nature focused -

……

He can’t really win here can he? If his kids aren’t there it says a lot about him. If they are it’s nepo.

Really I was only pointing out that his kids actually are in this programme and being shown as it had been mentioned they weren’t.

SqueakyFromme · 08/05/2026 21:43

google his wages it is mind blowing, BBC have to publish salaries, his is £3k to £7k Per MINUTE

Christ! 😯

Marmalademorning · 08/05/2026 21:32

Do you dislike him OP? If so why?

No I love him.

Although he has a great team behind him, you can tell he genuinely cares about animals and the planet and seems a very humble man.

Being able to work for free / travel the world for good causes - comes from a place of Privilege !!

Yea we know A none is arguing that

but there is so much more

RaraRachael · 08/05/2026 22:09

I've tried watching a couple of his programmes but didn't enjoy them.
I find them, and his voice, boring tbh.

riceuten · 08/05/2026 22:10

I don't know him, so I will reserve judgement

LogicAboveAll · 08/05/2026 22:11

Yes, I dislike him, immensely. Am I going to get heckled, now.

Crudd99 · 08/05/2026 22:12

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/05/2026 20:12

No feelings either way

Same.

Viviennemary · 08/05/2026 22:12

Never really watched him on TV.

Primrosetulipcrocus · 08/05/2026 22:12

I like what he does publicly but suspect that he might be a bit of a snob privately.

BitterTits · 08/05/2026 22:12

Why would you post such a mean-spirited thread on the man's 100th birthday? I have no strong opinions but this thread is unpleasant.

Yes - but doesn’t make it right does it

I think he was more absent less interested in his kids than average man

yea his children will be I. Their 70s themselves - think his daughter was next to him someone’s

Primrosetulipcrocus · 08/05/2026 22:12

Far from it

nevernotmaybe · 08/05/2026 22:13

OrsolaRosso · 08/05/2026 20:16

Who, and why?

Contrarians are everywhere, that''s the problem with your question. There are people who gleefully say any old nonsense about it for the attention of being different so there will always be a "yes" guaranteed, and it will be impossible to know if it is real or them.

PiggyPlumPie · 08/05/2026 22:13

My mum doesn't like him. She thinks he talks down to us.
