Anyone after a cheap laugh at my expense?

My parents sent us a cheque in the post, just arrived today.
DH said, "I can't pay this in via the banking app; it's too big."
I said, "But it's just a normal sized cheque, surely?"
DH: "No, the amount of money it's for is too high - you cant pay that much in online!"

D'oh! 🤦‍♀️😳 😅😅

I don't understand this one!

Airmail Letters used to be charged by weight and were expensive to post, every gram mattered.
Airmail paper & envelopes were light weight and thin.

Just for interest the Military used to use letter paper that was a A4 bit of paper that folded and made its own envelope, reducing weight as much as possible

Oh dear, I now have a picture in my mind of a postie struggling down the street with one of those giant lottery cheques for publicity photos.

I used to work for a bank years ago, and one of our customers was a charity. They brought one of those giant cheques in once and wanted to pay it in. Our manager had to ring head office and get special permission to accept it.😁

Aerogrammes, I used to write to my pen pals on those!

I feel old.

I remember aerogrammes! I also remember receiving one (from an English friend) inside a stamped, addressed, airmail envelope 🤦🏻‍♀️

My neighbour had just had a baby, her DH was back at work, she was exhausted and a bit stressed. So I went round and told her to go upstairs with the baby and nap, I'd tidy up downstairs, put a wash on, clean the kitchen etc. Her DH arrived later on to find me busy with domestic tasks, wife and child nowhere to be seen. I meant to say "I'm just doing a bit of housework to help out" but for some weird reason I said "I'm your wife now". The poor bloke looked terrified.

My partner left his phone at home once, and I texted him to tell him. My daughter will never let me forget.

I was getting out of my car and couldn't find my phone so figured it might have fallen in the footwell. I used the torch on my phone (which was in my hand) to look for my phone 🫣🫣🫣😂

I am so embarrassed to say this but here goes.

I once went past the British museum where there was a queue outside. I asked a security guard what all the fuss was about and he said something like 'Nero' and I said 'I thought he was dead?'

He meant the exhibition of course. I realised my stupidity a second later and legged it completely mortified.

I have never, ever, been reading a paper and ink book and tried to pinch an area on the page to make it bigger. Not me. 😗

This is me 🤣🤣🤣

Yes I've done this several times.

Well, if you really want the truth...

I now need to use a wheelchair following an accident in February '25. I can't straighten my leg, and get regular spasms in my leg, hip and lower back and pelvic area. I'm currently awaiting an appointment at Orthopaedics and possibly Neurology. I've an appointment in May at Orthotics for some sort of splint.

We have currently spent £15+k on equipment and adapting our house to enable me to get about - wheelchairs (one upstairs, one downstairs), stair lift, walk in bath, ramp up the four steps to pavement level. This stuff doesn't come cheap. We've almost wiped out our entire savings on it.

The latest expense is a platform and ramp to enable me to get outside without my DH's help. Currently, because there is a step outside our front door, for me to get outside, DH has to bring the upstairs wheelchair downstairs, put it on the ground outside the front door, I wheel myself to the door way in the downstairs wheelchair, use a transfer board to move into the outside wheelchair, and repeat the process in reverse on arrival back home, with DH having to half lift me back up into the downstairs wheelchair.

So until we get the platform and ramp installed, I can't leave the house without that rigmarole. So I'm currently sitting on my arse at home while DH drives to the bank to pay in the cheque that my oh so selfish boomer parents have sent to help us out with all this expense.

So there you have it. 🤷‍♀️

Sorry, folks, this was intended to be a light-hearted thread, but, yunno...

So sorry to read about your accident and the trouble you are having. I hope things improve soon for you.

Don’t keep us in suspense OP. How large was the cheque?

Enough to pay for the platform and ramp outside our front door. Cheers, Mum and Dad, and Happy Birthday to my lovely Mum - 80 today! 🥳

I went to see a 3d film and took 3d specs. Complained to my friend that the 3d was crap, she pointed out I was wearing sunglasses 😂

CoolAsACourgette · 01/05/2026 23:33

I was visiting my parents when DS2 was a baby, and was awake in the middle of the night. We were co sleeping, but I couldn't feel DS2 between us, so started screaming and flapping the bedsheets thinking he'd slipped down. My husband woke in a panic & searched the bed, then pointed out I was breastfeeding him, and that's the reason I was awake in the first place.

IDontHateRainbows · 01/05/2026 23:42

OhLookLouis · 01/05/2026 16:13

I actually rang my husband ON MY PHONE to ask him if he'd seen my phone.
And I've done that where are my sunglasses, I had them a minute ago, and I'm either wearing them or they are on my head.
I'd say it was due to the menopause but I've always been scatty and forgetful.😅

I did the look for something that im actually wearing thing once, only it was the baby in a sling, on me. Only for a few seconds but still..

As a variant on not being able to find the glasses (sun or reading) on top of my head, I’ll add that putting on a pair of reading glasses when already wearing a pair of reading glasses doesn’t work very well.

And happy birthday to the OP’s lovely mum.

Young lady on fb arguing that diesel hadn't gone up at her usual garage, she knew this because she always puts in £20 and it was still costing her £20, so there was no price rise.

🤣🤣🤣

Oh please tell me this is an urban myth. If not, shouldn’t be given the vote or allowed to breed 😬

Many years ago when working overseas my sister sent me a long letter on some very nice notepaper in an airmail envelope. I wrote back she should buy airmail paper to reduce postage. Her response "don't be daft, how would they know what was in the envelope"!

🤣🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣 entirely DH's fault gif saying it's 'too big' when what he meant was the value was too high!

Ouch!
My mum is a bit fanatical about switching sockets off for safety. My dad once switched the kettle on, then nipped to the loo while it boiled. Came back to the kettle and poured the water on the teabag in the mug. Yes - Mum had switched the socket off and my dad had poured cold water on his teabag. Drives him crackers sometimes, she does. 😅

My best friend does that too (turns everything off at the wall, & I don't! It has caused a few problems over the years, 🤣🤣

DS1’s car needed to go into the garage but he had to go away on exercise with the army, so DDIL said she’d deal with it. The company came to pick it up so she text DS1 to tell him it had gone. She said “I had to sign for it”
So he asked what she’d signed.

She replied “my name. What else would I have signed?” 😂😂😂😂

😂😂😂

im going to gave to get out of bed & go for a wee this threads made me laugh so much!
