When I first saw the headline I accidentally clicked on it before reading the full sentence. All I’d seen was Trump was evacuated from the dinner. I’d thought he might have been evacuated with a serious medical event while, hopefully, spectacularly crapping himself. Evacuated while evacuating.

So a quick sentence by Fareed Zakaria this AM said that (according to 'official sources') the gunman was supposedly 'targeting members of the Trump administration'. There was no follow up to this statement.

So was Scrotus not the main target? And if not, who was?

The gunman allegedly had 2 handguns, multiple knives, and a shotgun. If he was a guest in the hotel it would have been easy enough to carry them in luggage to your room and once inside to secret them on your person and make your way to your chosen location. Well, except a shotgun, unless it was a sawed off shotgun.

Someone on the news was speculating on how he got the guns to DC. They said it would be virtually impossible to get that many weapons through, even in checked baggage. So did he not fly? Did he purchase them in the area? Or did a local person supply them?

Suspect will be arraigned on Monday. But nothing more will happen other than a plea of 'not guilty' being entered.

And the DA is Jeanine Pirro. The US really does struggle with this separation of the legal side from Government.

I mentioned about the guns in a post above. And thinking on, they do sound like guns allowed in California, but how to get them to DC.

As an aside, I think many of us genuinely feel the difference in our beings between waking up in the morning when Trump is out of office and when Trump is in office. The relief of Biden’s normal Presidency after Trump’s alarmingly shit first one is not to be underestimated.

You can't really charge him with "attempted assassination of the President" if he wasn't in the same room said a sane person.

What often surprises me is that for a country which has so many inhabitants obsessed with guns, and more guns than inhabitants, they always seem to be so utterly incompetent either to deal with them or to use them effectively.

Like, last time I was looking at statistics more people were killed with a gun by accident than deliberately, which seems to me to be just careless. Of course, the NRA's business used until quite recently to be teaching the young how to use guns safely and responsibly, and I don't think they are doing that any more really?

As for the president's "security" people, killing the unarmed and innocent but failing to notice armed potential murderers seems pretty poor to me.

There's been a vigorous disagreement going on the beheaded statue thread, but as the usual suspect is not one of those directly involved, no deletions of posts. Strangely, there was a comment of why moderators seemed to be restricting talk only to the ME (I think they had branched off into atrocities in other countries for comparison).

MNHQ may need to post a link to a children's book on how to resolve disagreements before resorting to deletions in ME and Politics.
