First sign you're of a certain age...you always pay in cash and count out every last frickin' bit of change no matter how big the queue is behind you.

Just don't? Use a card please. I don't want to count out your 5p pieces.

Also - why do you need a receipt when you have bought 2 items worth £1.49?

I have a couple of friends who pay cash because they disagree with society becoming cashless.

I’ve just gone back to cash to watch money more and it works so sorry but this is happening!!!😉

Ps work in a supermarket and since col we’re getting a lot more cash and I think it’s a good thing. Oh and 5cs aren’t useless, I’ve been able to piece together small change so many times to save breaking notes or using my card … oh I think I’m the person you hate am I?!

I've also reverted to using cash in an attempt to take better control of my spending.

Crushingdandelions · 19/04/2026 10:08

Because I'm standing behind a till all day taking their money? I would have thought that was sort of obvious. TBF I am a boomer myself.

No need for swearing dear@Gall10

You're standing there all day regardless of how people pay. I can just imagine the type of miserable sales person you are.

PoachedSmoke · 19/04/2026 10:06

Whippersnapper please take note: Mind your own business. How people choose to pay is up to them.

Can I suggest yoga and meditation for your patience issues?

This plus fuck off

You can’t say that word on Boomersnet! 😆

What word? Cash? Why not

Crushingdandelions · 19/04/2026 10:13

WearyAuldWumman · 19/04/2026 10:12

"I am a boomer myself".

Hmmm. Are you really though....You're not a sneaky little Generation Jones wannabe...?

If you were truly a Boomer, you'd glory in the beauty of someone giving you a £5 note and 63 pence to pay for a £2.63 bill.

Haha !! Yes - they do that as well.. drives me insane.

Needless to say I try to maintain a neutral expression

Some of us boomers were using plastic before you were born.

Stop with the sweeping generalisations, snowflake.

No. I pay with my phone. Born 1955.

So fuck off with your ageist generalisations.

A mere whippersnapper.

Yup - got both wrinkles and arthritis. Never pay in cash unless it's by accident though.

You accidentally pay in cash ? What are you on about!

😂I'm part of the weird little sub generation that is Jones. I sneakily try to pass for X, it has connotations of Billy Idol and Ultravox. Doesn't usually work even though I've got a banking app and everything!

Lomonald · 19/04/2026 10:17

What is generation jones ?

Nanny0gg · 19/04/2026 10:17

Crushingdandelions · 19/04/2026 10:11

Umm I'm 63

And in all your years, you clearly haven't learnt patience or manners

ReignOfError · 19/04/2026 10:17

If I were you, I’d go and complain to your bosses, and see if they’ll introduce a policy that says ‘our customer service staff don’t like offering some kinds of customer service, even though it contributes to their wages, and our profits, so we’re banning…’

Crushingdandelions · 19/04/2026 10:18

@CaptainMyCaptain You are welcome in my shop - I never said ANYWHERE that all boomers pay with cash. Lots of older people are definitely moving with the times ie paying by watch or phone.... or just a usual fiver or tenner - whatever.

What I am objecting to is the fastidious counting out of every last little penny.

Very tail end of the Boomer generation, so born 1962/3/4.

I wondered that.
Get a bit muddled between card and cash, OP?
Must take a while to sort out.

Why? Surely 3 £1 coins is easier than sorting out smaller change.

And I'm sure you wait for your till to tell you what the change should be, anyway

Crushingdandelions · 19/04/2026 10:15

Think you have it hard now, just be thankful you didn't live in the days of £.s.d. You'd never have managed with 20 shillings to the pound and 12 pence to the shilling. And that's before we get started on Guineas.

HoppityBun · 19/04/2026 10:20

Zylo · 19/04/2026 10:08

Born during the post war baby boom. So in their 70s or late 60s now.

ive worked at race tracks and prefer them to the zoomers (late 90s/early 00s) doing one pound bets on card and holding up the queue

(I say this as a zoomer)

Well, no. It can be as late as being born in ‘63/64. So early 60s. You could just about squeeze both a parent their child into the range, if the parent was born in ‘45 and the child in ‘63.
