First sign you're of a certain age...you always pay in cash and count out every last frickin' bit of change no matter how big the queue is behind you.

Just don't? Use a card please. I don't want to count out your 5p pieces.

Also - why do you need a receipt when you have bought 2 items worth £1.49?

OP posts:

Our morrisons now have a gate that you need to scan your receipt at self service to get out,

The reason that I was perplexed and annoyed - though I bit my tongue - was that I'd been at a regular checkout and served by a member of staff. The security chap seemed to have concocted a story in his head that I'd dived back into the alcohol aisle.

You can fuck right off with your 'Boomers' comment.
My life is on my phone and laptop for all things financial and investments...but if you work behind a till I guess you won't have much of that going on.
What a twaty ageist comment.

You looking down on people working behind a till is as bad as the OP being ageist.

Crumbs. I'll not post a link, but there are actually Generation Jones websites. From one: "Born between 1954 and 1965? You’re Generation Jones!
"

Judellie · 19/04/2026 15:10

People sometimes buy things for competitions and need to upload the receipt. Don't know why you're bothered, the receipt gets produced anyway however someone pays. Why do you want to keep it instead of giving it to the customer?

Born during the post war baby boom. So in their 70s or late 60s now.

ive worked at race tracks and prefer them to the zoomers (late 90s/early 00s) doing one pound bets on card and holding up the queue

(I say this as a zoomer)

How does payment by card hold up a queue? Isn't tapping quicker?

We have to enter the details into the machine.
Plus half of them have gambling blocks on their cards without realising or trying to paying with credit card which we don’t take.

Give me a boomer with their simple note over a zoomer and the chaos of three different bank cards just for a £1 bet

BunnyLake · 19/04/2026 15:19

A woman was faffing about in front of me with cash yesterday, but she must have been in her 40s and I’m in my 60s. I just used my card. My purse only ever has a few 20p in it because I need them for the decent public loos in my city.

Can I point out that 'twatty' has two 't's ?

As to the boomer comments - I am stating facts; as unpalatable that is for everyone here today 😃. I have never had a youngster count out change painstakingly.

I am remarkably patient with all and sundry and was venting frustrations on here only.

Yeah I can work out change without a computer - thanks.

This is a retirement job as I didn't make enough money as an airline pilot 😅

god such bollocks.

Glad i wasn't the only one that reported this thread for the ageism

Annoyed that i'm not the only one fobbed off with "not against guidelines"

Perhaps the guidelines need rethinking, ageism is the Ism that MN loves so much.

I reported the post nitpicking at spelling and pointed out that the thread was goady and ageist, asking if they might want to reconsider whether it breaches the guidelines.

Nope.

Wow. And the public wonder why retail staff are miserable when they are looked down on like this. You are no better than the OP with this comment.

gamerchick · 19/04/2026 15:37

I always get a receipt, even if it's for a small amount, because I seem to look like a shoplifter in Morrisons.

Rightsraptor · 19/04/2026 15:39

I like a receipt when I've paid cash so I can prove I didn't nick the item.

I'll pay how I like thanks very much. I'd like a receipt do some officious person doesn't accuse me of shoplifting.
BTW my local corner shop likes small coins and is very happy to be paid that way.

Actually no - I think, given how spiteful the Op has been I think it’s fair

Luckyingame · 19/04/2026 15:55

Well, I'm a Gen X (my husband is a "Boomer").
It's very difficult to refrain from getting personal here, so I'd just ask you to leave your audacious, twatty instructions to yourself.
And I'll have a receipt for a 50p, if I bloody well feel like it.

I'm sure your remarkable patience is a great relief to us all.

Dinggirl · 19/04/2026 16:06

Well, you'll be pleased to learn that this Boomer uses Applepay all the time, and never carries cash😄

i was born in 1963 and always thought that made me a very young boomer, on the cusp with Gen X...I didn't know about this Gen Jones! Off to google 😆

Erm, as a so called Boomer, I never pay cash. I use contactless or Apple Pay

I never want a receipt - I know what I’ve spent. .

Other than insulting older people, I hope you’re having a nice day. 🙄🤷‍♀️

Luckyingame · 19/04/2026 16:39

HoppityBun · 19/04/2026 12:11

Ouch! That’s mean

Very fitting, though.

loislovesstewie · 19/04/2026 16:42

P. S I usually pay contactless but the corner shop likes small change so I oblige.

A boomer is someone born between 1946 and 1964.

CurlewKate · 19/04/2026 16:52

Oh goody. Ageism. Haven’t seen any of that on here since…..ooh, yesterday!

Delici · 19/04/2026 16:53

If your workplace accept cash and give receipts then unfortunately (for you) that’s what people can do regardless of age!

You are in the wrong job. Maybe something less peopley?

FYI, I’m not a boomer and I don’t do either of those things.
