Would you stay in a B&B with a shared bathroom?

We fancy a trip to London over the bank holiday, needing an overnight stay between Sun and Mon.

I was just about to click "book" on the pleasant looking BnB in a central location when I realised there was a "shared" bathroom.

I now realise I have become too prim and proper to countenance this, and will have to stump up extra to get my own bathroom.

We're going on the National Express, so it's not like I must have my own space all the time..

Would you do this?

Hell no!

No, it’s not 1958.

Not now, I need an en suite because I need the loo in the night most nights. Years ago it was the norm.

Not a fucking hope of it. I don't like public toilets though and quite honestly will go out of my way not to use a toilet that is not mine or that I have paid to be solely mine for the time I need it.

Absolutely no way.

I like the idea of capsules - in a way it's less socially awkward if everything is completely anonymous - but reviews say there are bedbugs. I don't know if that's just people playing silly beggars though. It's hard to tell.

Not been bitten yet.

No I've camped and shared everything when younger and when not so young and I would again if camping, I'd have to in an NHS hospital - but not in a hotel or b&b, not now and not ever.

likelysuspect · 19/04/2026 09:38

No I certainly wouldnt

I like to wander in the bathroom, wander back out, wander back in, wander back out, forget this, pick up that, get up in the night

I like a shower every morning, do my hair, make up etc, like to hang clothes in the bathroom that may need some creases being steamed out of them

Dont want to share with others in any case

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 19/04/2026 09:41

No, it's not about cleanliness but more the fact that if I need the loo I might not be able to go if someone's in there!

Oldraver · 19/04/2026 09:48

No, we stayed in an amazing Air BnB with shared bathroom and ended cleaning the toilet as didn't want the hostess to think it was me that left it a mess. The other couple staying were very young so probably used to be cleaned up after

pdjafcwtaoa65 · 19/04/2026 09:50

Absolutely not. I refused to share a bathroom even as an 18 year old student, sure as feck not doing it as a 38 year old woman!

somanychristmaslights · 19/04/2026 09:59

Never ever. I get flare ups of IBS so I’d always want easy access!! And if I need the loo in the middle of the night, I don’t want to risk bumping into some stranger on the landing.

I sometimes stay in a UK city on my own for a few nights and get a private room in a backpacker's hostel, it costs £70 a night vs £250 for PI in a similarly central location, shared bathroom areas are very clean and quiet, I'd far rather spend the money on other things. I like the shared lounges for the evenings as well, nicer than hotel bars.
