Would you stay in a B&B with a shared bathroom?

We fancy a trip to London over the bank holiday, needing an overnight stay between Sun and Mon.

I was just about to click "book" on the pleasant looking BnB in a central location when I realised there was a "shared" bathroom.

I now realise I have become too prim and proper to countenance this, and will have to stump up extra to get my own bathroom.

We're going on the National Express, so it's not like I must have my own space all the time..

Would you do this?

Only do it if you don't mind wandering around in your pyjamas in front of strangers. I did it last year for one night, because I wanted something cheap as we were only there to sleep. It was in another country. I wouldn't do it in London unless money was a major issue and it was otherwise a perfect place. I would much prefer to be in a Premier Inn!

Besidemyselfwithworry · 18/04/2026 15:27

Absolutely not! God knows who you’d be sharing with and in the morning when you want to get ready it could delay everyone.

id rather pay a bit more and have an en-suite

Rocknrollstar · 18/04/2026 15:30

No I wouldn’t. Last time we did a BnB it was a shared bathroom but no one else was there. I like an en-suite. I don’t let my DH book anything without checking it out now.

And while I'm at it, I hate those hotel en suites with clear glass walls. WTF were they thinking. I scour the details now to avoid them.

Starseeking · 18/04/2026 16:03

No thanks, because I have no idea what state I’ll find it in. Public toilets are bad enough, if I’m paying to stay somewhere overnight, I’d expect a private bathroom.

PurpleNightingale · 18/04/2026 16:05

I have when we have been on budget road trips across Europe- price range options for a family room where we needed to stay were sometimes patchy. An adult always accompanied the kids to the bathroom. I prefer my own bathroom but its not a deal breaker personally.

caringcarer · 18/04/2026 16:07

I need to wee a couple of times at least in the night and I sleep naked so would always pick a room with ensuite.

Therewerelions · 18/04/2026 16:14

No chance, I would not go somewhere if that was the only option.

amylou8 · 18/04/2026 16:16

Not a chance. I've stayed in some very suspect places while travelling, I'm not fussy, BUT it must have its own bathroom. I do not want to be waiting for my morning wee while some random bloke leaves skidders.

hellospring26 · 18/04/2026 16:20

Nope. Did it years ago, never again.

Sheena99 · 18/04/2026 16:33

I have done, it’s not very convenient but not the worst thing I’ve had to put up with in a B&B.

Hadalifeonce · 18/04/2026 16:37

It's not so much the sharing, it's the inconvenience. When I need the loo, I need it; having to put on a dressing gown, going along a corridor, or whatever, could prove to be too late.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/04/2026 16:37

Absolutely not, no.

Jskqbk · 18/04/2026 16:43

No way

HauntedBungalow · 18/04/2026 16:44

Yes, if just one night and it was a well organised regulated place where people behaved themselves. There's a couple I stay in quite often in London that are like that - they have many returning regular guests, people like me who like going to the capital for the odd concert or event, and are quiet and secure at night. These are places I'm very familiar with though.

Error404FucksNotFound · 18/04/2026 16:47

I would not unless I had no other choice.

Globules · 18/04/2026 16:49

Depends how much more a room with an ensuite was.

I've done shared bathrooms before and would happily do them again.

TheDellsYoursongNsoul · 18/04/2026 16:51

No,I'm a frequent night time piddeler and also quite queasy first thing in the morning and it doesn't take much for me to start wretching because of smells etc.

Renter2026 · 18/04/2026 16:51

MonaChopsis · 18/04/2026 13:51

Total non issue. Do you use the toilet on aeroplanes, or at your office?

Do you shower at your gym, or at the public pool?

If so, why is this different?

Personally I wouldn’t. And yes I do use the toilets on planes and in the office but not to shower or in the middle of the night when I’m in my PJ’s.

EstherGreenwood63 · 18/04/2026 17:14

No, cos too many freaks and weirdos around.

LazyCatLtd · 18/04/2026 17:15

I have in the past but I wouldn’t now .

Laiste · 18/04/2026 17:16

Nopes.

Dorrieisalittlewitch · 18/04/2026 17:17

Now, absolutely not. When we were younger/no kids yes.

JohnTheRevelator · 18/04/2026 17:19

No way. Sharing a bathroom with strangers gives me 'the ick'. Plus, you can guarantee you'll get someone who treats it like their own private bathroom and spends 2 hours in there!

thentheycameforme · 18/04/2026 17:21

We stayed at an air b and b above a pub in London with a shared bathroom and kitchen between 2 rooms and it was brilliant value and no bother at all, we sort of fell into a routine with the other room (which was a single room so likely travelers who were exploring for most of the day/evening)
