Would you stay in a B&B with a shared bathroom?

We fancy a trip to London over the bank holiday, needing an overnight stay between Sun and Mon.

I was just about to click "book" on the pleasant looking BnB in a central location when I realised there was a "shared" bathroom.

I now realise I have become too prim and proper to countenance this, and will have to stump up extra to get my own bathroom.

We're going on the National Express, so it's not like I must have my own space all the time..

Would you do this?

I used to think no problem..until I stayed in a lovely b&b and the man we shared with left the toilet with shit EVERYWHERE amd I mean EVERYWHERE!!!🤮🤢🤢🤮🤢🤬🤬 so bad I couldn’t go in the bathroom without gagging and had to get b&b lady to sort him and the toilet out! She didn’t make
him leave though so he did it AGAIN in the middle of the night!! 😳😳very deliberate and he didn’t give a shit! So we left at 2am to a premier inn and had to get credit card company involved to get our money back for the rest of the week as she refused to refund us! Refused to make leave so lost a
family of 6 instead! Never again will I share a bathroom!

yeesh · 18/04/2026 14:16

No, I wouldn’t want to get dressed to have a wee in the night.

Total non issue. Do you use the toilet on aeroplanes, or at your office?

Do you shower at your gym, or at the public pool?

If so, why is this different?

You really don't understand why this is different? Nipping to the loo while out for the day or travelling is completely different from having your own bathroom in a b and b.

No way on earth.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 18/04/2026 14:17

I wouldn’t.

FourSevenThree · 18/04/2026 14:47

Not for a relaxing holiday.
Yes for a night or two if the offer is right - the best location, affordable price at otherwise expensive/sold out area.

I definitely prefer communal over shared with one other room. I wouldn't like to meet someone who would block me from the morning toilet to leisurely wash hair in the morning.

In my experience, reviews help a lot and many communal bathrooms are in really good conditions.

TheDogsMother · 18/04/2026 14:52

Absolutely not.

UnctuousUnicorns · 18/04/2026 14:52

I've done it decades ago when I was a teenager, but I wouldn't now. I now need an accessible bathroom so it's by the by, but if I weren't in that position and absolutely had to share, I would have a jogging suit or similar to pull on after a shower, to get back to my bedroom. But preferably not, ideally I'd have an ensuite.

LlynTegid · 18/04/2026 14:53

Not unless it was the only practical option when going for an event at a particular time.

whatwouldlilacerullodo · 18/04/2026 14:56

Is it a big bathroom with cubicles and showers like a gym, or a normal bathroom to be shared like a house share? First one definitely yes, second one no!

limegreenheart · 18/04/2026 14:58

I tend to prioritise a private bathroom, and will sacrifice other things in favour of that if money is tight. For one night, though, I might make do BUT I would check what "shared" means - a controlled situation sharing with the family in a room-in-a-house AirBnB situation versus sharing with absolutely anyone who might also have booked a room that night in a place with multiple guest rooms.

Yellowpapersun · 18/04/2026 14:59

Never in a million years.

zantez · 18/04/2026 15:00

I'm too old now to want to even think about sharing a bathroom with strangers. I'd rather buy a takeaway doughnut and spend the meal money on an en suite room. But I don't have to do that, just saying.

Ruthietuthie · 18/04/2026 15:03

My rule for hotel accommodation is that I will only stay somewhere that is nicer than my own home. It's a definite no from me.

WednesdaysChild73 · 18/04/2026 15:03

Probably not, I’m a naked sleeper so would prefer an en suite in the room.

Exactly 👍🏻

Nowvoyager99 · 18/04/2026 15:05

Nope

Tryagain26 · 18/04/2026 15:05

Ive done it before. It might not be ideal but it's not the end of the world.
I don't have am ensuite at home and anytime I've stayed with relatives , or hired a Airbnb with friends there hasn't been an ensuite so I don't think it's terrible to share a bathroom.

JustSawJohnny · 18/04/2026 15:05

No.

I'd spend the entire weekend worrying about having a poo and whether the other users had had a piss when in the shower.

Shudder.

What is someone decides to have a bath or shower and are in there for an hour - and you need the toilet!

PurplishGemstones · 18/04/2026 15:21

No way. Not ever.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/04/2026 15:22

No. Being of ages where we tend to be up and down on the night, dh and I need an ensuite - we won’t consider anywhere without. Which is why we often stay in a Premier Inn, if there is one.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 18/04/2026 15:25

I would not!

Itsanewlife · 18/04/2026 15:25

Not usually, but will be doing this to get an Air BnB close to a concert venue in London, and with a teen. Figured for one night we can grin and bear it.

Anjo2011 · 18/04/2026 15:26
