I have become addicted of late to watching US podcasts with people like John Mearsheimer and Heather Cox Richardson. They are often quite reassuring in these times. But not always alas. Kent , the national security guy who resigned recently says Trump wants to leave NATO - so he can support Israel when it attacks Turkey , which is a NATO member.

He wouldn’t. His popularity ratings are the lowest of any president on record. Even his own hardcore base are distancing themselves from him after this latest stunt. He would lose to any half plausible democratic candidate, even a slimeball like Newsom.

Turkey has been pursuing war crimes charges against Israeli officials. Netanyahu has some strange hold over Trump - Netanyahu has gone to every president since Clinton pleading for a joint US-Israeli war against Iran and Trump was the first to agree to do so.

So the idea is that if Netanyahu says he wants to move against Turkey then he will be backed by Trump no questions asked.

I’m not so sure, I think Trump is getting bored of Netanyahu and the “Israel first” policy is playing very badly in polls in the US so I suspect he will just throw Netanyahu under the bus and move on to some other drama - possibly threatening Greenland again.
