Old enough to remember whole years in which I barely thought about the American president.

This part from the Heather Delaney Reece article is very concerning too:

Today, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon has begun approaching American automakers, including Ford and General Motors, along with other commercial manufacturers, about helping to produce weapons and military supplies. The Journal itself described the move as reminiscent of a practice used during World War II. But not the version of World War II most Americans were taught in school. Not the clean narrative of Allied liberation. The earlier phase. The buildup. The part where governments quietly began converting civilian industry into war machines because they were preparing for something far larger than they were telling their people.

This is a very unnerving direction to be heading in.

Manufacturing capacity for Patriot interceptors was about 600 units a year pre war. 50 per month. About 12 per week. There was a waiting time of several years for new systems to be delivered. So low volume was not because of lack of orders.

Based on articles I have found, and stuff that @SerendipityJane has posted, the issue is not manufacturing capacity, it is something else. Either complexity or supply chain, rare earths for example. Or it might be a high failure rate of a component at testing.

I think all the CNC Machining centers, lathes, presses etc in the world will make very little impact on manufacturing capacity of that much needed item. The bottleneck is elsewhere.

Trump won't understand that of course. He should get his mate Musk. That fella who claims to know more about manufacturing than anyone else in the world.

That's oddly reassuring thank you!

We live in an interesting time where it's impossible to suppress criticism of the regime, yet still it stands

If he wants to keep it secret from the US taxpayer/congress, and get his ammo a lot cheaper, he could order it all from China. They would need all the detailed designs of course, but that's no problem. He can make it all unclassified with his mind after all.

And if the bottleneck is rare earths, problem solved.

rare earths are so badly named. They are all over the shop.

Making them "rarer" will only increase the market value and therefore make more sites economically viable around the world. By the time they come on stream you can risk a market collapse.

The PRC have learned from their catastrophic attempt to strangle the rare earth monopoly back in the early 2010s and are now much more sophisticated about it. They will keep supplies at just the right level to deter mining elsewhere and make it unattractive as a commercial proposition.

Catholics have really pissed off the WH Regime. It also doesn't help that the children are the wrong colour, but the reasoning is probably 'ICE now has the capability to 'handle' the children, so we can withdraw the $11m funding and put that toward paying ICE bonuses and hiring more Proud Boys'. #detentioncentres #deportation

Trump Administration Strips Catholic Charities of $11 Million After Attacking Pope Leo XIV

Operation Pedro Pan became the largest recorded exodus of unaccompanied minors in the Western Hemisphere, and it cemented a partnership between the Catholic Church and the United States government that endured for more than six decades.
On Wednesday, the Trump administration killed it.

The Department of Health and Human Services canceled an $11 million contract with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami to shelter and care for migrant children who arrive in the United States without a parent.
The Monsignor Bryan Walsh Children’s Village — named for the priest who started Pedro Pan, an 81-bed facility in Cutler Bay that provides foster care, family reunification, and trauma services — will be forced to shut down within three months.

Archbishop Thomas Wenski called the decision an abrupt end to “more than 60 years of relationship” and said the government was destroying “a program that it would be hard-pressed to replicate at the level of competence” the Church had demonstrated.
The timing tells you everything about the motive.

Two days before the cancellation, President Trump posted on Truth Social that Pope Leo XIV is “WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.”

They might as well remove the plaque on the Statue of Liberty.

Trump Attacks Pope Leo XIV: “If I Wasn't in the White House, Leo Wouldn't Be in the Vatican”

The president called the pope “weak on crime,” praised his brother Louis as “all MAGA,” and demanded Leo “stop catering to the Radical Left.”

@logicisall - that last you posted is absolutely disgusting. I thought I couldn’t be surprised by anything this unpleasant, greedy, egomaniac got up to these days, but this particularly petty personal anti-Catholic/Pope Leo XIV vendetta stuff has done it. He is the lowest of the low.

Yup. Know that.

There is also the matter of the PRC companies being state owned. So they can take a loss, putting commercial ventures in other countries out of business.

MsJinks · 16/04/2026 11:21

This is just abhorrent - no words.

I can’t bear to think how ICE will treat these children- feel quite sick about it.

What a nasty, awful, piece of work he is - thought his Mrs was ‘all about the children’ too hmm

Only commercial ventures. Because they have shareholders.

No reason a publicly owned company could not do the mining etc as an investment in the overall prosperity of the nation.

How much are Irans Shaheed drones ?$50,000 ? So you could have 960 Shaheed drones for one of the Triton drones ?

The US has already lost. Just doesn't know it yet.

You'd expect a Shaheed to cost not a lot because it's almost a home build model aircraft designed to fly a one way mission.

The high level Recce "drones" are in complexity similar to a small airliner, often packed with fancy intelliegence gathering equipment and supposedly designed to fly multiple missions.

That said it's not unusual for the odd loss, and as for the squawking - they're often sharing airspace with civilian traffic (even now, even in that part of the world) and TBH it looks like at times the US has chosen to make at least.some of their over watchvisible to all and sundry.
