Wasp in bedroom

My bedroom window is open and a wasp is in and on my bedroom light on the ceiling. How do I encourage it out? Don’t want to hurt it.

Dying wasps are detected by others who then come to avenge them, I swear it’s true

Sweet suffering Jehovah.

This fucker (excuse profanity) is very much alive. Not dying.

Make sure you shut the window if you swat it

OhFuckyNell · 08/04/2026 21:36

You'll get ants now as well with the honey 🤣

We had to dispatch a queen wasp the other day. Was a big bugger. No bloody way am I having her set up home anywhere near me.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 08/04/2026 21:38

Dilemma,

kill it,

let it go out via open window and sleep in spare room,

save it, involves me on stepladder with glass and card.

wtf do I do?!

Is hairspray the best way to kill or another way?

Think my cat though good at hunting wouldn’t go for the wasp.

I don't know I'm just hanging around to find out what a werzel is

Parsleyforme · 08/04/2026 21:40

How are you planning to kill it if it’s on the lampshade? I wouldn’t be saving it personally. So either a safe and quick method of killing or hope it finds its way out overnight

Very reassuring. lol 😂

I know 😅 Has waspy left the building?

Where I live (not Australia) we get these big waspy things called Mud Daubers, they are horrible and try to make nests in your house 😵

I don’t have fly or insect spray.

We get loads of the buggers and I’ve had to remove a few hornets the size of bloody birds before.

You need to knock the lampshade so it moves and settles somewhere you can get to more easily. Then a nice, tall glass and a bit of card and out the window it goes.

Waspy obvs getting ready for bed. Me debating sleeping in spare room and leaving it to maybe go out the window. All doors in house are closed. Don’t want it buzzing around the whole f-ing house.

I have got to get a chair or stepladder but think I lent stepladder to DB.

This, easiest way

It’s now off the light and buzzing around. I was too slow.

Am I the only person who googled to see what a werzel was?

Dinnerplan · 08/04/2026 21:51

At this time of year it may be a queen wasp or a small hornet. After being randomly stung a few times - including the back of my leg while I was walking - I would dispatch it humanely at minimum risk of contact.

Wild bees and bumblebees I actively rescue and make the garden a nice place for.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 08/04/2026 21:53

I just went to box room to prepare the room opened window again came back and it was gone! Praise the bloody Lord!

Not a hornet was wasp. I’ve seen hornets.

Thank goodness it’s gone out now…I can finally go to sleep! Grin

Hang on though, are you absolutely sure it’s made an exit through the window…???

Hairspray is how I deal with the little fuckers, then I give them a dignified water burial down the toilet via the dustpan and brush.
