Wasp in bedroom

My bedroom window is open and a wasp is in and on my bedroom light on the ceiling. How do I encourage it out? Don’t want to hurt it.

I do have some Ellnett.

Please dont kill wasps. Theyre essential to the ecosystem and good pollinators. It is also likely to be a queen at this time of year meaning killing her will lose us a whole colony. Unless one is allergic they're a tiny relatively harmless creature. Takes a few minutes to coax one out (or catch in a glass kf necessary).

Theonlyfatmiddleagedwomannotonmonjaro · 08/04/2026 23:01

Sounds like a queen looking for somewhere to have a million babies.
Seriously....it needs to die.
I use hairspray or the long nozzle on my vacuum. Leave the vacuum running or vacuum rest of the house without turning it off for 10 mins to make sure it dies.

thenightsky · 08/04/2026 23:06

Kill it tonight. If you can't hear it the morning, you're going to fretting all day about where its hiding!

Happyjoe · 08/04/2026 23:06

Bit early for wasps, probably a bee? Not that it helps right now...!

Hollyy4 · 08/04/2026 23:07

Is there not a DBF/DP/DH who can get rid of it? x

OnceUponATimed · 08/04/2026 23:08

ohyesido · 08/04/2026 21:27

please don’t waste your time trying to save it, kill it dead before you find it in your bed and it stings you.

and close the window so it can’t summon its mates with a pheromone

I'm allergic to wasps and I don't kill them. Far safer to use a glass and piece of card and put them out the window.

No need to kill them.

We've had a couple appear on the landing every day this week. I think they must have been hibernating in the loft space and squeezed themselves out of the hatch edges following the warmth of the sun and bright light. Huge things too, so I'm guessing queens.

You were right it didn’t want to leave. Too fucking comfy in MY bedroom on MY bright warm lightbulbs! It hid under my bedside lamp then reappeared like the terminator.

Your mistake was leaving the light on for it. It would have got the hint to leave if you'd left it in the dark.

Xiaoxiong · 08/04/2026 23:10

@BIWI ouch!! I thought I was hard done by when I was stung on the thumb by a wasp in my oven glove - and dropped the pan of roast potatoes I was about to put in the oven and then slipped in the fat and fell hard on my bum.

Somehow hiding in Christmas loo roll just adds insult to undercarriage injury.

We need wasps and their offspring to pollinate our flowers and blossoms. We are losing pollinators every year. So important we dont kill them all.

They are very useful but not in someone's bedroom.

Waterdust · 08/04/2026 23:18

Hit it with a shoe/book/ anything really.

I’m sad at all those advocating killing a living thing. It just wants to be happy and avoid suffering, just like you.

Won't be cheap but out of hours pest controller I can give you a recommendation for if you're in London?

🤣🤣

pinkpony88 · 08/04/2026 23:35

Honestly I’d probably just have to move house. 🤣

tinyspiny · 08/04/2026 23:44

If you don’t want insects etc coming in the house get some fly / midge screens / blinds fitted , we have midge blinds on every window it’s fab . No help tonight but might be something to think about .

Err no. Just popped up after watching tv downstairs I’ve left light on in bedroom. The bugger is inside the lampshade on the bulb.

🤨 why on earth did you leave the light on if you want it to leave? They are attracted to light.

You leave the light on if you want to attract it to that spot and kill it.

It’s a wasp. I honestly don’t understand why you’ve come to an intent forum to start a thread about a wasp. Whack it with a magazine or shut the door, leave the lights off and open a window. Some people…

ohyesido · 09/04/2026 01:15

a werzel? Isn’t that a band from Somerset?

I’m just freaked out. Wondered if anyone had any advice which they did.

Wasn’t very happy last night apart from when it was on the light bulbs

If its still in there in the morning, open the window wide and turn all the lights off. They head for daylight. Blows people's minds at work when I get rid of bees/wasps like that!
