Wasp in bedroom

My bedroom window is open and a wasp is in and on my bedroom light on the ceiling. How do I encourage it out? Don’t want to hurt it.

Your mistake was leaving the light on for it. It would have got the hint to leave if you'd left it in the dark.

I know that now. Crafty Waspy bugger…

If its still in there in the morning, open the window wide and turn all the lights off. They head for daylight. Blows people's minds at work when I get rid of bees/wasps like that!

Exactly what I’ve done seeing as it banished me to my spare room.

Is there not a DBF/DP/DH who can get rid of it? x

No just my DB coming over today with my 7 year old nephew. I’m looking after nephew.

Bit early for wasps, probably a bee? Not that it helps right now...!

Definitely a wasp. 🐝 I can differentiate between them at least.

Please dont kill wasps. Theyre essential to the ecosystem and good pollinators. It is also likely to be a queen at this time of year meaning killing her will lose us a whole colony. Unless one is allergic they're a tiny relatively harmless creature. Takes a few minutes to coax one out (or catch in a glass kf necessary).

Tiny and relatively harmless unless it stings me or the cat…. Or my nephew who I’m minding today. I was all for saving it yesterday until it refused to vacate the premises. Grrrr

With wasps and bees I wait until they settle or to towards the window and keep bumping themselves on the glass and then use a towel to scoop them up in before putting them outside .

HoraceCope · 09/04/2026 06:50

i would also think too early for wasps,
and assume bee
glad it left

HoraceCope · 09/04/2026 06:51

i have just read that spring marks the beginning of wasp season

You'll get ants now as well with the honey 🤣

... and ants attract pangolins and aarvarks.
... and aarvarks attract lions, leopards, hyenas.
😱
CLOSE THE WINDOW NOW!

Flying insect killer spray also kills spiders, just in case that info is useful for the future. I don’t enjoy chasing things around or killing them so now I have a magnetic screen on my window

Window firmly closed. Wasp was actually hiding and doing the old trying to get out of window thing. So I opened window buggered off downstairs to deal with nephew, brought him up to see wasp (he wanted to see it) and truly it had finally disappeared. Master of disguise hiding. 😱

Nope obvs not too early. I recognise differences between wasp 🐝 and bee 🐝. I actually saved a bee in a swimming pool when I was 2 or 3 and it stung me. And then died 😢

You obviously don’t as your emoji shows the same insect 🤣

From my recollection bees are rounder and wasps are longer and thinner. Yes it could’ve been a male bee. But I can’t speak their language. And not about to risk being stung taking a pic of it and posting here!

And yes I know this is very much a FWP.
