Kanye West blocked from visiting the UK.

I think Wireless are at fault here for having him as the headline.

Kanye has been consistently contraversial so this isn't a surprise.

Controversial sells tickets.

Ooh!

Classic example of 'man hates himself for being gay - makes everyone else suffer' 🙄

Imo ofc

Controversial sells tickets.

Talent and a good back-catalogue sells tickets... both of which Kanye has.

The contraversial part is just is unbridled narcissim.

Being a hitler loving antisemite isn’t controversial, it’s a hate crime. Wireless would have been an antisemite convention if it went ahead.

BrinkWomanship · 08/04/2026 08:53

The biggest issue here is why on earth the festival organisers felt it was appropriate for Ye to perform in the first place. His name shouldn’t have even made the list of possibilities because his racist views should be so abhorrent as to make him an unprofitable prospect.

Antisemitism is so permissible in society that it seems they thought he would be a draw for ticket sales. So, the ticket buying public who see no issue with him as well as the organisers are a huge problem. What on earth has society become that such virulent anti-Jewish hatred is ok?

I can’t imagine any other minority having to deal with that. Imagine the response if a comparable singer raved about black people. It would be career-ending. But Jews are fair game apparently.

WheretheFishesareFrightening · 08/04/2026 08:59

dapsnotplimsolls · 07/04/2026 14:24

I'm aware. He's apologised though.

He’s apologised before, then released a song praising Hitler. He apologised again when he got a new management company and was about to release a new album.

This suggests he is truly anti semitic but knows when to apologise to help with PR.

BrinkWomanship · 08/04/2026 09:03

You know what, sometimes apologising simply isn’t enough. We don’t live in a world where you can do whatever you like and apologising afterwards wipes the slate clean and those who’ve been impacted are obliged to just crack on. Actions have consequences.

MaturingCheeseball · 08/04/2026 09:07

A pp had it right: anti-semitism is fashionable. Wireless is a rap festival, but looking at pictures of previous, it seems to attract middle-class white young people, who would no doubt all be grooving along to Heil Hitler whilst waving Palestinian - no wait a minute it’s now Iranian - flags.

Well clearly they aren't entirely fair game as the Wireless sponsors withdrew and his visa was refused and the vast majority of people (OP excepted) feel that was the the correct decision.

BrinkWomanship · 08/04/2026 09:13

Clearly they are because many people contributed to get to this point until the Home Secretary stepped in.

Greenwitchart · 08/04/2026 09:35

Good.

And the festivals organisers only have themselves to blame for being daft enough to invite him in the first place and having to cancel the event.

Kanye is just another narcissistic famous & wealthy man who thinks he can do and say whatever he wants and that the little people will be silly enough to accept his "apologies". Good that he is facing a backslash.

Thanks for the permission but I’ll pass. You seem unhinged.

SockPlant · 08/04/2026 10:09

how do you feel about him not getting a visa to perform in Germany?

I want to go back to this bit tho

"Wouldn't it have been better to let him perform and arrest him if necessary?"

Well, did that help with that dreadlocked chap at Glasto last year (can't be bothered to look up his name). We saw what happened when he performed. And it wasn't acceptable either. But afaik he (and the NI rappers) are British and so can't be denied a visa to enter. Other nationalities? for sure we don't have to let them in if we don't want to. Other countries do the same. Particularly the US.

ETA: don't bring world leaders into this. Trump is an entirely different kettle of fish to an anti-semitic rapper. Refusing to meet Trump, allow him into the country or to try to deny him a visa isn't how politics and states work.

GingerBeverage · 08/04/2026 10:18

It’s interesting that someone can commit a physical crime, go to prison, do their time, come out and say they’re reformed and integrate back into society. Other rappers/musicians have done this.
But there’s no equivalent for people who commit verbal crimes to do that. Perhaps there should be.

This is denial of a work visa. It’s nothing to do with integrating back into society.

neilyoungismyhero · 08/04/2026 10:39

He's vile and unpleasant and his views are abhorrent but dear god we accommodate terrorists with the drop of a hat.

No one is saying he shouldn't be able to integrate back into society, but that doesn't mean he should be able to come to the UK to work.

he hasn't been convicted in a court. He is not allowed to come to UK because what he says isn't compatible with being in the UK.

It is as simple as that. Not like being convicted and actually paying your debt to society before being rehabilitated.

Chris Brown (who has bipolar II diagnosis and drug/alcohol abuse issues) toured UK last year, during which time he was arrested for assault. We've all seen what he did to Rihanna but he seems to have been collectively forgiven enough to keep working. Is it because his actions are compatible with being in the UK?

Kanye wasn't always like this, Kim wouldn't have married him if he was. He seems to have systematically and deliberately destroyed his life in a way that's incomprehensible. For want of a better word it just seems insane.

The other person who comes to mind is Mel Gibson, who also seems to have been forgiven, in general.

breadknife · 08/04/2026 11:26

fartotheleftside · 07/04/2026 14:37

Bipolar and psychosis can make people say and think some really wild things, that don't have any bearing on who they are as a person.

In some ways this is a test case for how we treat people with mental health issues beyond the garden-variety palatable depression and anxiety.

I would like to see him dedicating more of his life to holocaust education and building relationships with holocaust remembrance organisations and groups, though, as a lifelong commitment.

I agree

Mate, i'm not in charge of visas because that fucker wouldn't even get close to the UK if i were. Along with plenty of other twats.

i had NO IDEA close personal friends of the odious pair were on here. I take it all back. He's fab. She's fab. They should be king and Queen of this Sceptic Isle.
