Adverts that have stuck with you

We currently have a free trial of a streaming service, so are stuck with adverts for the first time in a long time. It got me thinking - what adverts have really stuck with you over the years? I remember saying how awful the 118 and GoCompare adverts were, and my Dad said to me “well they did their job then, didn’t they?” Because they got me remembering their brand and what the service was!

I’m sure this has been done before - but humour me pleases and share with me adverts that stuck with you. I wonder if there’s a theme of particular adverts being truly memorable for all, or any that random people remember that jog a memory in someone else.

Here’s mine:

Milkyway - Red car & blue car race (I still remember all the words to the song)
Tango - You know, when you’ve been Tango’d
118 118 - Got your number
Go Compare - stupid opera man
Yellow Pages - JR Hartley and the other one where the lad had the party and cleans his house to find the scratch in the table
Dolmio puppets - Whensa your Dolmio Day?

There was one about a breakfast cereal where they were on holiday or done thing singing a song - some of the lyrics were “I think there’s a rack by your toes. But what about the BRAND NAME that’s a different matter, here’s what they all reply. They’re tasty, tasty, very very tasty. They’re very tasty” I’m thinking All Bran or something like that? If anyone remembers please help me!

Another one - “there’s a moose, loose about this hoose” - some sort of sweet think?

Looking forward to seeing some others!

Some more I've thought of -

Fruitella - too fruity for my shirt
The diet coke advert
Was it Special K that had "I I I I I I like your coconuts. Your flakes and fruity pieces are divine.... Just make sure the bowl you're in is mine!"
The sugar puff monster parody of the puff daddy music video
Chips glorious chips...

Think you're on to something there👍

I liked Maureen Lipman's British Telecom adverts: 'He's got an ology!'

He's practically a scientist!

Shinyhappyapple · 05/04/2026 18:50

The only recent ones that stick with me are for holidays - Jet2, P&O cruises, AirB&B, On the beach.

And the Specsavers ones!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 05/04/2026 19:17

Accrington Stanley, who are they?!

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2026 19:32

The California Raisins “Heard it through the grapevine” animated by Aardman IIRC.
Yes, we used to have adverts for raisins on prime time TV!

PurpleDisco · 05/04/2026 19:35

Dustin Hoffman’s Sky Atlantic advert where he’s standing on top of a New York building is one of favourites… I just looked it up and can’t believe it was filmed 15 years ago! I love the way he talks about stories and how they make you feel… “stories that are so powerful, they really are with us forever”… this advert has an ‘other worldly’ feel to it especially with the soft background music (Cinematic Orchestra, To build a home)… the way Dustin talks and looks directly at the camera gives a sense that it’s not just stories but also people / loved ones are with you forever, it’s quite comforting…

That Aussie beer that makes kangabrew taste like wollabrawonga: ‘ I can see the pub from here’. Lol.
shake’n’vac lady
Those amazingly arty Guinness adverts back in the day.

And noooo mistaking!

Pearl diving was C&G.

Mel Sykes on the Boddingtons advert: ‘Ey up Tarquil!’ I didn’t know women who looked like that could talk me until then. Loved those adverts.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/04/2026 21:05

Judderman. Not sure of the connection between that and the alchol it was selling as was young at the time but creepy yet memorable!

The Hovis through one where he goes through the ages and it was lovely!

The seat belt one! So haunting.

‘Were you truly wafted in from paradise?’
’Nah - Luton airport!’

I think that may have been Dubonnet.

It was Campari.

InsaneInTheMamBrain · 05/04/2026 21:27

From when I was really little- Chambourcy Mousse- ‘Shhh! Just don’t tell the children.’
Also from the same time- Skol! Skol! Skol! Skol!

Ariston! And on and on…
It’s not just food…

zeddybrek · 05/04/2026 21:29

Full moon, half moon, total eclipse!

An advert for Hamlet cigars starring Russ Abbott as a fisherman who instead of using normal bait puts a stereo speaker into the water and plays a Des O'Connor record. He is smoking his Hamlet cigars and the fish just jump out of the water into his net.
The one where the man has hit a child with his car and is haunted by the child wherever he goes (mentioned by other posters up thread).
The Budweiser advert with the crocodile and the lizards ( say ooh la la ).
Advert for Nat West with the little girl returning the shopping trolley ( this is how we do it). Her face when the Dad asks for the £1.00 trolley fee back is priceless.
'I am the spirit of dark and lonely water....'
Charlie says don't talk to strangers.

Thank you very much for feeding William... Quality Street?

InMySpareTime · 05/04/2026 21:50

The Ambassadors reception (Ferraro Rocher)
Made the chocolates seem far more opulent than the reality which is essentially kinder bueno with hazelnuts.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 05/04/2026 22:02

Daddy or chips?

LadyAddle · 05/04/2026 22:19

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale @firstofallimadelight The lobster singing Does you does or does you don't take access - was that the one where they rhymed frustration with "I can't pay for my crustacean"? That ad was so clever. I associate it with a clam shell in the multi colours of a beach umbrella for some reason.

Does anyone Scottish remember open windae that's handy!

Aintgointogoa · 05/04/2026 23:18

A random one, and unlikely to be memorable for many but....my then boyfriend worked in a top ad agency in London, and his brief was to create and direct an ad for the juice Appletise. It was all very cleverly done, using the top tools of the time (some sort of special camera on a fixed dolly, he took me to the studio to see it) Big budget. It was of a plane flying low over desert sands, dropping "bombs" - bottles of Appletise - which then caused flourishing oases to bloom on contact. Impressive. All well and good. He showed me some letters (pre internet) of people raving about how good it was (for real...people wrote in ?!) Then the first Gulf war happened and it got pulled. 🤣

Gingernaut · 06/04/2026 01:49

A series of ads for Access, your flexible friend

AA - He's a very nice man

Clarks - My mummy said I'm going to be a proper little madam

Are you with me? No, I'm with the Woolwich!

Wonderloaf. Nice one Cyril

Alvin Stardust for road safety - Are you out of your tiny mind??

Bit of a downer - NSPCC - 'Cartoon' where a cartoon boy is beaten to death before morphing into a 'real life' corpse
