Adverts that have stuck with you

We currently have a free trial of a streaming service, so are stuck with adverts for the first time in a long time. It got me thinking - what adverts have really stuck with you over the years? I remember saying how awful the 118 and GoCompare adverts were, and my Dad said to me “well they did their job then, didn’t they?” Because they got me remembering their brand and what the service was!

I’m sure this has been done before - but humour me pleases and share with me adverts that stuck with you. I wonder if there’s a theme of particular adverts being truly memorable for all, or any that random people remember that jog a memory in someone else.

Here’s mine:

Milkyway - Red car & blue car race (I still remember all the words to the song)
Tango - You know, when you’ve been Tango’d
118 118 - Got your number
Go Compare - stupid opera man
Yellow Pages - JR Hartley and the other one where the lad had the party and cleans his house to find the scratch in the table
Dolmio puppets - Whensa your Dolmio Day?

There was one about a breakfast cereal where they were on holiday or done thing singing a song - some of the lyrics were “I think there’s a rack by your toes. But what about the BRAND NAME that’s a different matter, here’s what they all reply. They’re tasty, tasty, very very tasty. They’re very tasty” I’m thinking All Bran or something like that? If anyone remembers please help me!

Another one - “there’s a moose, loose about this hoose” - some sort of sweet think?

Looking forward to seeing some others!

The 1980s adverts with chip-pans bursting into flames.

I didn't attempt to deep-fry anything till a year ago and did so with a sodden tea-towel at hand to throw over the combusting chip pan.

Turns out it's fine as long as you're paying attention.

And delicious 😋

there was an ad for possibly a bank where the princess had to take a legendary sword and slay the mighty two-headed Tundred, and the whole thing was about a phone number “Oh! A Tundred! Sever one, Oh! Sever Two! Free!” Or something like that.
Another princess-based ad was for Clark’s shoes, with the magic key in the sole of the shoe.

All because the Lady loves milk tray

I’m a Bit of a worrier! (British gas)

The tizer ads with the word that would be completed by adding Tizer (Priori…)

Irn Bru “my granny was a fanny, and her granny. I come from a looong line of Fannies”

Most of the ones previously mentioned plus these...

Trio - Not one, not two, but three things in it: a chocolatey biscuit and a toffee taste too!

Club - If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit join our club.

54321 - First bite into real milk chocolate 5 3 2 1 then crunch into light crispy rice 54321...

Cornetto - Just one cornetto...

XXXX “I can see the pub from here!”

TheIceBear · 04/04/2026 18:35

I loved the “oh mr soft” ad for soft mints in the 90s. I hate soft mints though . Do they even still sell time. Who knows

The Kit-kat one where the photographer has been waiting ages for the pandas to do something interesting, turns around to have a kit-kat and the pandas are behind him rollerskating! So funny.

There was one where the neighbours are gossiping and decide to learn a language instead of gossiping. On the new language they are leaning across the fence talking and the subtitles say "about blonde across road" but I can never remember what it was advertising!

Daveyouronmute · 04/04/2026 18:43

Just remembered the Frosties Tony The Tiger ad "They're g-rrrrrrrr-ee-aa-ttttt!"

classicslove · 04/04/2026 18:53

1980's adverts
Poachers Bitter 'I've never known a night like it' became a catch phrase in the local pub.
The last ever Hamlet advert with the Sperm having a cigar - it's the only advert I had ever known advertised in advance.

The crashing waves 🌊
the old surfer 🏄‍♂️
the white horses 🐴
the music 🎶

Guinness I think ????

Yes, it was Guiness. The music was Carmen Birunda (sp?) by Carl Orff I think?

BettyStogs · 04/04/2026 18:53

'Apples hazelnuts bananas raisins coconut sultanas' Kellogs fruit & fibre, think it was Angus Deayton.

You're thinking of Old Spice. The music on the Guinness advert was Phat Planet by Leftfield.

Bloody loved Nick Kamen 🥰

He was so beautiful.

InMySpareTime · 04/04/2026 19:38

There was an ad for an adhesive where they glued a man’s overalls to a board and lifted the board, overalls, man and all up in the air to show how well it stuck.

NoraLuka · 04/04/2026 19:39

Belly’s gonna get ya, I think it was Nike.

You know when you’ve been Tangoed with the little orange guy.

StationJack · 04/04/2026 19:40

@Arraminta , @moggerhanger , the horses in the waves advert was for Guinness. Carmina Burana was the Old Spice advert.
