Adverts that have stuck with you

We currently have a free trial of a streaming service, so are stuck with adverts for the first time in a long time. It got me thinking - what adverts have really stuck with you over the years? I remember saying how awful the 118 and GoCompare adverts were, and my Dad said to me “well they did their job then, didn’t they?” Because they got me remembering their brand and what the service was!

I’m sure this has been done before - but humour me pleases and share with me adverts that stuck with you. I wonder if there’s a theme of particular adverts being truly memorable for all, or any that random people remember that jog a memory in someone else.

Here’s mine:

Milkyway - Red car & blue car race (I still remember all the words to the song)
Tango - You know, when you’ve been Tango’d
118 118 - Got your number
Go Compare - stupid opera man
Yellow Pages - JR Hartley and the other one where the lad had the party and cleans his house to find the scratch in the table
Dolmio puppets - Whensa your Dolmio Day?

There was one about a breakfast cereal where they were on holiday or done thing singing a song - some of the lyrics were “I think there’s a rack by your toes. But what about the BRAND NAME that’s a different matter, here’s what they all reply. They’re tasty, tasty, very very tasty. They’re very tasty” I’m thinking All Bran or something like that? If anyone remembers please help me!

Another one - “there’s a moose, loose about this hoose” - some sort of sweet think?

Looking forward to seeing some others!

Do you remember the little girl who’d been hit by a car? She was slumped against a tree and her voice said something like “hit me at 30 and there’s an 80% chance I’ll live, hit me at 40 and there’s an 80% chance I’ll die”

When that advert came out, I was a child myself, probably the same age as the child in the advert. Didn’t learn to drive until I was 25 and even now I can picture it as clear as day, especially when I’m driving in a 30 zone.

I guess whoever created that advert did a very good job as that’s stuck with me for the best part of 30 years.

Yes - I think it was "If you hit me at 35 mph I'll probably die. If you hit me at 25mph I'll probably live." Also remember the one about the boy in the back seat.

There was a Skoda advert where they made a car out of cake. That was beautifully done.

PeatandDieselfan · 04/04/2026 20:10

All of these. Plus

You can't better than a quick fit fitter.

Knorr stock cubes: "Elspeth's gone to Inverness for a hen night."
"All that way just to pick up a chicken?" She's actually watching Tom Jones.

Papa and Nicole with their Renault Clios.

The one for the Vauxhall corsa where the cars were playing hide and seek (think it was filmed in Budapest).

That speeding advert where theres a dead ginger boy randomly in sight whenever the man who hit him goes anywhere - including when hes in bed. Haunts me to this day 😬

Sharp of tongue and spindle-limbed he is, and cunning

BoobyBird29 · 04/04/2026 20:25

So many bells ringing with these, can’t believe no one’s mentioned
“Men can’t help acting on Impulse”
(possibly gave me high expectations of the impact of body spray!)

The Lip Smackin', third quenching Pepsi advert from the 70s

The Coke advert with I Want to Teach The World to Sing

The Renault advert with the man leaving his job to set up business on his own with two others but the car will have to go back and his posh wife asking if he wasn't being a bit hasty as they dropped their kid off at private school 😆

"Pea and ham? Fae a chicken? That's clever"
Was in the same run of adverts. When adverts were humorous.

Oh the Wrigley's gum. Great to chew. Even better to share. There was a hot man, young woman and I think a greyhound bus.

The phallic ‘only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate….’

SixSevenShutUp · 05/04/2026 11:01

The car advert with the kids talking about their Dad. "Overtired!" That one made me smile every time.

crossedlines · 05/04/2026 11:02

and of course the various Levi’s adverts from the 80s… NIck Kamen in the laundrette and the one where a woman says goodbye to her boyfriend who’s a soldier and he leaves her his Levi’s as a gift

SugarPuffSandwiches · 05/04/2026 11:08

"The red car and the blue car had a race" was the first one that popped into my head too 😁

"Accrington Stanley? Who are they?! exactly!"

Sun pat, Sun pat, our son Pat. I'll kill 'im when I get me hands on 'im!"

"There's juice, loose, aboot this hoose... "

YerMotherWasAHamster · 05/04/2026 11:10
