It ain't nothing but a heart-breaker
(War) Friend only to The Undertaker

Unless, of course, your name ends in Trump, when it ain't nothing but an opportunity to grift, deflect and destroy.

Funny you should both say that. (Funny peculiar, definitely not funny haha.)

I was just yesterday reading about the inroads US influencers and US money are making against UK abortion rights.

How US groups are driving a new generation of anti-abortion activism in the UK
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2dl5j0w23o

And exactly as you say, @Jaichangecentfoisdenom , when we try to discuss this on MN the usual suspects quickly arrive to shush us: "Don't be so silly. Stop bothering your pretty heads about something so unlikely... Ooh look, a fish!"

People on Mumsnet don't care much for it when I point out that these same groups were deliberately behind the now all-encompassing anti-trans movement. Pit a couple marginalised groups against each other and it opens up a nice fissure. At least he knows what a woman is...

Not his Catholicism itself, but fear of disapproval by Catholic power – be it represented by the Pope or by a voting block.

Vance is the ultimate toadying chameleon. (Two reptiles at once!)

He'll suck up to whoever it takes.

I think it's more that he's trying to balance licking Trump's dick with distancing himself from this war in a way that's going to save his political future. He should ask Kamala Harris how well the distancing worked out for her.

It was a perfect storm of voter apathy and the Electoral College system that got him elected the first time. It was those and the sudden switch from Joe to Kamala and the resulting fear in certain quarters that she (a woman) 'couldn't do the job'. A lot of voters didn't seem to grasp the fact that neither could Scrotus.

Yes, I liked the people who said they wouldn't vote for her because they didn't know the intricacies of what she stood for, or were uncertain about her policies on (insert lengthy think tank paper here). And in the meantime, he was dancing to YMCA and blabbering about the size of Arnold Palmer's penis and Hannibal Lechter, and he was considered the safer bet. Yeah, ok.

I feel incredibly sad for all the innocent people across the middle east whose lives are being destroyed. But I have to confess, I'm loving watching Trump's hubris crashing head first into reality.

Remind me, what did Rumpelstiltskin do when he was rumbled ?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2026 18:11

Stamped his foot through the floor, then tore himself in half trying to pull it out?

Ah. Shame. I guess that's not easy with bone spurs.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2026 18:17

It turns out that's not the original version (though it is why our dachshund was called Rumplestilzkin) but the revised one of 1857. In the version the Grimm brothers printed in 1812, he ran away angrily, never to come back. But in the oral tradition one they collected, he flew out of the window on a cooking ladle.

Is this related, I wonder, to Aikin Drum playing upon a ladle? Why are ladles special? Can we make Trump eat one to see what happens? So many questions, so little time....

Spandauer · 16/03/2026 18:18

Give it a fecking rest.

Wow, he's seriously gone around the bend.

This reminds me a lot of when I had to speak to my then four year old for announcing loudly that someone was not invited to their birthday party.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2026 18:25

Further to playing upon a ladle, from an early version of that Jacobite song:

Donald's running 'round and 'round, Aikendrum, Aikendrum,
Donald's running 'round and 'round, Aikendrum
But the Chief cannot be found

I would definitely worry about the mental health of someone who claimed that two people started a war that the US had been fighting for 47 years, when neither was in a position to do so 47 years ago.

The president in 1979 was, um, was Jimmy Carter, I think. (Could Obama even have voted, that year? I suspect not, but I cba to check.)

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/03/2026 18:29

Obama and Biden started a war 47 years ago?

Couldn’t the existing board of peace help out rather than creating a Homuz board of peace? I assume I can guess who the winner of the inaugural Homuz Peace prize is going to be.

MsJinks · 16/03/2026 18:31

@AcrossthePond55- yeah I get the ‘ours not to reason why’ - I had an ex military manager once, bless him he got very confused with questions to start with - as in why would we even ask stuff!

I was thinking of the big chief military people who take the instructions- have they no room to double check the outcome expected?

I do expect Trump loves the military as they do just do what he says - he’d like the world to listen to his commands too!

And thank you - I really appreciate all your input on this thread - I’m aware some stuff I post will be very simplistic or naive or miss an obvious point - but this is a good place to learn.

There may be an added subscription to pay for this one.

Isn’t Blair on the original Board - will they all be invited as well? Or is it completely separate?

Looking forward to seeing who these allies are - I think!

Based on what you posted, the probability it’s a genuine post from Donald J. Trump is very low (≈5–10%). Here’s why.
1️⃣ The “47 years of war” claim is a red flag
The text says the war “has been going for over 47 years.”

  • While U.S.–Iran hostility dates back to the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the U.S. has not been fighting a continuous war for 47 years.
  • Even critics of the current conflict don’t describe it that way.
That phrasing is typical of memes or satire, not official messaging. 2️⃣ The “Hormuz Peace Board” doesn’t match known policy wording There is a policy idea called a “Board of Peace” related to Gaza reconstruction proposed by Trump’s administration. However:
  • It’s not called “Hormuz Peace Board.”
  • It’s connected to Gaza governance, not controlling the Strait of Hormuz.
So the tweet mixes two different topics, which often happens in fabricated posts. 3️⃣ The formatting doesn’t match his real posts Typical Trump posts (on Truth Social/X) usually have:
  • shorter sentences
  • random capitalization
  • insults or nicknames
This message reads more like a parody of his style. 4️⃣ No credible record of this post I could not find this quote reported in:
  • major news
  • official statements
  • archived posts
If it were real, it would likely be widely reported. ✅ Estimated probability:
  • Real: ~5–10%
  • Fake / edited / satire: ~90–95%
✔️ If you want, paste the exact screenshot or link, and I can often push that estimate closer to ~99% certainty by checking formatting, timestamps, and typical fake-tweet patterns.
