That's according to BBC news. Can't say I'm sorry.

As well as Holly and Jessica’s families I also feel for the families of those murdered by the man who killed Huntley. It’s sickening for him to be portrayed as a hero and to get fame from this when he’s raped and killed women. He didn’t kill Huntley because he cares about women and girls. He did it for fame and praise.

The families of his victims finally got justice.

I am not “celebrating”. But I believe he should have got the death penalty along with his girlfriend.

Maxine Carr did not in any shape or form deserve the death penalty. What an absolutely ridiculous and horrific thing to say.

I'd rather he regained consciousness, lived longer, blind and crippled and in pain.....and then died. Death is too easy a way out

DairyMilkFreeZone · 07/03/2026 11:01

Yeah. Now we have to pay for the murder case.

A lot cheaper than housing Huntley. The man who killed him is on a whole life sentence.

Paradoes · 07/03/2026 11:42

Thinking of Holly and Jessica and their heartbroken parents and families. An absolute tragedy.

Agree the animal who murdered Huntley is not to be put up on a pedestal but its good that he is dead.

Thinking of all people who are affected by these horrific crimes on children

Well, at least the prisoner killed another prisoner, and not a guard. So it worked out quite nicely this time.
The issue is that next time it might be a guard, and so for that reason alone, it's not great that prisoners can get their hands on weapons so easily.

So murder is ok for some people to do? Plenty of people in prison have murdered others you might consider unsavoury, in drug or other illicit business rivalries, for example. Should we let them out?

WhatwillitTake · 07/03/2026 11:44

My thoughts are with Holly and Jessica's families.

BySnappyUmberFish · 07/03/2026 11:45

I cannot stomach this eye for an eye approach. He deserved to spend life in prison for what he did and he was a danger to society. However there is something slightly disturbing about posters saying things like "I wish he'd survived, blind/disabled/in pain/crippled for the rest of his life." Wishing violence on him isn't justice for the two girls and it won't achieve anything.

Butchyrestingface · 07/03/2026 11:45

Lemonfrost · 07/03/2026 10:17

Agreed. I run a team that regularly sends staff into prisons to run programs. This type of incident is not to be celebrated.

Agreed. I feel sorry for any prison officers who have to deal with his killer (and others like him). The danger staff face on a daily basis is horrific to think about.

Morethanthis71 · 07/03/2026 11:47

Good.
I hate the fact that his face is all over the press.
Thinking of Holly, Jessica and their families and holding them in my prayers today.

Sarah2891 · 07/03/2026 10:07

Good riddance.
Thinking of Holly and Jessica's families.

Just this exactly. Also remembering the guy who killed him was as bad and killed an unborn baby and is mo hero!!

Who knows? Depends who the vigilantes take a dislike to next. Might be a prison officer, or a nurse, some kid groomed into county lines, or someone wrongfully convicted. Who cares though, eh?

Might be me! That posters attitude says it all.

Probably about equivalent to be honest, a murder trial is around 350k. The average cost of one prison place is around 38k but that’s not a realisable cost (ie they can’t get rid of staff or close a cell or whatever). Someone else will take his place. Perpetrator might plead guilty given already has a WLO. But will likely be kept in a CSC or other close confinement, meaning the cost of keeping him in prison has now gone up. And I wonder how many staff might think twice about staying, given how apparently easy it is for someone to obtain a dangerous weapon.

OtterlyAstounding · 07/03/2026 11:11

Personally, I find it very worrying that a rapist and murderer was able to get hold of a metal pole, but I'm quite glad that - considering he did - he decided to attack another murderer instead of a prison employee, and on balance, I'm pleased that Huntley's dead. All's well that ends well, in this specific incident.

Edited

I doubt the prison officers, prison nurses and paramedics slipping in Huntleys blood and trying to hold his skull together feel the same.

The individual and their families who will be dealing with traumatised loved ones who may develop PTSD which effects their lives, their careers, ability to work and earn a wage, may mean high levels of alcohol and substance misuse, marriage breakdown and even domestic violence.

Their lives, marriages and other relationships can be destroyed.

It's not alls well that ends well.

Vengeance is clouding your thinking here.

Vengeance retribution, lots of biblical talk on here.
Shit happens in church and shit happens in jail. No one's going to shed a tear for him.

So you’re incapable of thinking about more than one thing at once?

Superhansrantowindsor · 07/03/2026 11:50

I feel sorry for the families of his victims. I’m glad he won’t cost the tax payer any more money. I’m not comfortable with our prisons becoming lawless and violent. I have a family member and two friends who work in the prison service. They don’t deserve to be unsafe.

susiedaisy1912 · 07/03/2026 10:10

Oh dear. Never mind. One less monster for tax payers to have to fund.

My thoughts exactly.

Charlize43 · 07/03/2026 11:51

For a long time I just couldn't understand why he'd killed those two girls. I think the media image of him with Maxine Carr, of the young working couple about to marry obscured a lot. I remember the case in 2002 although I wasn't greatly drawn to reading about it, as tragic and horrific as it was.

Then, years later when I did read up on him, I was appalled to discover that he was a serial sex offender with a long history of sexual violence, rape and assaults on underaged girls. He was known to the police.

The shocking thing is how managed to get away with it for so long! That's a crime in itself, and maybe those two little girls lives could have been saved if he'd been detained or monitored.

Hopefully not, he was as bad

Plenty saying same on twitter etc. How fucking ignorant. She was abused by him and entirely controlled. She had no part in his crime and was guilty of assisting an offender after the fact. I do wonder if she'd be viewed differently if it happened now, with so much more understanding of abusive dynamics in relationships.
