This simply isn't true.

The advice is often to let it run its course for a day or two but Imodium is fine for adults who don't have IBS, heart or liver problems.

It's a godsend for people with IBS. Wouldn't have a life otherwise.

I can't believe people are still taking Covid tests 😂

@TinaTwinkleToes you don't need a Covid test, you clearly know you are ill. Stay home, keep hydrated, and rest up.

It's clearly some kind of infection. You just need to ride it out.

Clearly you are fortunate enough to not need to know if you have Covid, so you can take your immune impaired self off to get prescribed anti-virals to potentially save your life. How nice to not understand why people still need these tests.

I was sensing more sarcasm than encouragement

Immodium is fantastic for people who have loose stools with a non-infective cause, but it is unhelpful for people who have acute viral or bacterial illness that includes diarrhoea. So IBS or short bowel syndrome is really helped by it, but gastroenteritis, etc., no.

Exactly right , never prolong a stomach bug by using Imodium - body is trying to expel it for a reason

Focus on electrolyte intake while it’s ongoing

Of course I understand why some people need to be tested, but these tests are and always have been unreliable.

If people are immunocompromised, then they should be getting tested properly at the doctors or arranged via their specialist.

Ohh im so childishly laughing at "loose stools" 🤣. Stick a cork in your arse for the night and deal with it in the morning! 🤭

TheChosenTwo · 06/03/2026 22:29

This has got me wondering now if I had covid! I didn’t realise covid caused the shits 😱
a couple of people in my office had it recently and around the same time I had a case of the shits, lasted for about 3 weeks on and off but I didn’t feel unwell otherwise, no sniffles or headache or any other symptoms. Just sudden need to run to the toilet! It’s gone now thank god, for the most part. About 3 nights ago I did have another episode but just one and short lived thank god!

Because the title didn't indicate it was about someone's innards.

Immodiaum is really bad for you. You get diarrhea for a reason and you need it to run its course.

I don't think immodium (but buy the generic loperamide instead - exactly the same stuff and about a tenth of the price) is bad for you and there are times it can be useful, but generally I agree that it's best to let the diarrhoea run its course.

Have you not got any innards?
Empty shell syndrome is really quite common, have you got someone to talk to?

I was in a hotel in Spain. I covered all the towels & a lot of the bathroom floor with ghastly stuff from my gut. It was as bad as when I had campylobacter when I lay on the bathroom floor writhing around. The headache & runny nose are also clues. Amazon sells Covid self tests. Mine only lasted a few days & then I tested negative. Keep well hydrated & take analgesics for the headache. If you test negative for Covid, see your GP & don’t be fobbed off with seeing a paramedic or nurse. #AskForADoctor (BTW I am a retired hospital consultant doctor.)

Why couldn’t you sit on the toilet?

Several Drs have told me immodium is a bad idea that your body is trying to remove a harm so trying to stop that is a problem
