What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

My obsession is lip gloss/oil. My latest one set me back £200 🤭.

Hate that I suffer insomnia because I always find myself looking at them online.

I'm really pretty poor at the moment, so my extravagance is something that most people wouldn't even notice, but - my audible membership. An audio book every month is such a luxury; I run the books overnight to help me fall and stay asleep and it's like being read to all snuggled up in bed when you were a child.

So it's only about £8.99 per month, but it's money I can't really afford and yet...

That's lovely though

RosesAndHellebores · 05/03/2026 21:05

DH: opera and the wankmobile
Me: handbags, make-up, hair

Papyrophile · 05/03/2026 21:08

@applescentedcandle for the very best socks on the planet, google the current website for Corrymoor Socks. The goat flock was sold and has moved, but the socks are the mutt's nuts. I have bought nothing else for 15 years and everyone loves to get a pair as a gift.

ScrimMN · 05/03/2026 21:10

mixed martial arts ❤️
instruction, private lessons, equipment, belt gradings, seminars. My daughters also train, the cost is massive and I’m not a bit sorry

Emmz1510 · 05/03/2026 21:10

My UGG boots- I have a few pairs
Radley bags- again, I have a few.

Just being nosey to ask why you only visit your Mum 3 times a year?. We are all different but if my adult children only saw me 3 times a year I'd be so depressed.. l visit my sister once a month and she lives 200 miles away.. anyhow to answer your question.. people think im extravagant for flying abroad 8 times a year for a 5 day break.. although its always SC but l do get a villa with it's own pool. I eat out 3 times a week for late lunch/ early tea.
But to me this is just normal .. l think it all depends on our own money situation. I take ubers everywhere if not being driven by family members... even had far as 200 miles .. there and back.

@15February1960

do you have loads of money?

EvelynBeatrice · 05/03/2026 21:11

Private medical care! - especially gynaecology. Nice to be treated with speed, courtesy, professionalism and to get offered pain relief!

NavyNorris · 05/03/2026 21:14

Really enjoying reading all of these. Especially like hearing how much joy people's purchases bring them! Mine are:

Really comfortable bed and mattress.

Boob job (felt really bottom heavy and it made me feel so much happier about my shape. Had it done at 18 then had redone once I was older, have never regretted it for a second).

Subscriptions to kindle and Wattpad (I know, I know, it's my guilty pleasure and I can overlook bad editing for a good storyline).

Weight loss injections (gained weight after illness left me mostly housebound and my weight was making me depressed).

Good quality food shop, delivered weekly. We used to have less money and shopped in the budget supermarkets so now we have a little extra, it makes me happy to buy better quality food.

I only ever buy good quality shoes. I don't think this is a luxury though as I think your feet are important and I think "buy cheap, buy twice" but realise I'm fortunate to be able to do this compared to some.

French clothing for my youngest. It's expensive and she doesn't need it but I love it. Sadly now she's getting older she is wanting to pick her own clothes so I'll be passing it on to my niece if she wants it.

Expensive cat food. I'm hoping it makes a difference to his health but who knows. He loves it though so it's worth it.

Decent skin care. Not hundreds but I like to buy things that I like, skin care and bath stuff that smell nice and make me feel good are my biggest guilty pleasure.

Double cream in my coffee every morning

My meditation teacher

OK actually not that expensive!

saffy2 · 05/03/2026 21:16

Wine
coffee shop take away coffees
tattoos
nails done every few weeks
cleaner
books, although I do use the library a lot!

im very frugal on pretty much everything else. But these things, I pay and I’m happy to pay and I feel no guilt at all paying for them! 😂

Silvermadmonkey · 05/03/2026 21:17

Travel - I spend a fortune on holidays every year and have never regretted it for a second, in fact, I will continue to do so! Will go business class if not too obscene.

I also bought an rather expensive bag during Covid which I wouldn’t usually do (probably because I couldn’t travel!!) but I absolutely love it.

MermaidMummy06 · 05/03/2026 21:17

Travel. We live very frugally, and do travel frugally. We're southern hemisphere so travel is horrendously expensive, whether it be domestic or international. We have 2 DC these days so it's even more expensive!

Travel is the one thing I can't feel guilty over spending on. My life is very dull and going somewhere new & adventurous is the light in my year!!

I don't consider that extravagant. I have bells and whistles driving lenses and love them.

Ok 👍 tell me more please!🙏 as I want to start driving again after long period of eye / vision problems..

Dublassie · 05/03/2026 21:20

I go to every musical I can - I think I have been every week since Christmas ( Dublin ) . Also fly to London to see them regularly . Over to see Oliver again this weekend .
45 euro for English Pear and Freesia Jo Malone hand soap .

TheMauveBeaker · 05/03/2026 21:20

I’ve just bought a v expensive, hand knitted wool cardigan after seeing the one on The Traitors. The most expensive item of clothing I’ve ever owned.

Maria1982 · 05/03/2026 21:22

Weekly 1-2-1 Pilates classes.
eye wateringly expensive but keeps me mobile and pain free ! Priceless

Girlking · 05/03/2026 21:24

Toni&Guy every 4 weeks, Clarins skincare, WOLFORD leggings and just spent £5200 on dental implants.

rainforestalliance · 05/03/2026 21:24

The Joseph Joseph triple laundry basket, was on sale but still very expensive for a laundry bin. I love it though.

Girlking · 05/03/2026 21:29

I forgot to add Rigby and Peller bras

Lavender14 · 05/03/2026 21:30

Lone parent so I'm on a budget but I try to buy fresh flowers for the house and they really do make me smile when I see them and just make the house feel springier and more cheerful.

I love a nice takeaway coffee. My bit of self care is to do counselling by phone somewhere fairly scenic with a nice coffee and a bun every few weeks.

I used to indulge in lurpak as well! I love it. But can't quite justify at the moment.

Have never found NHS interested in looking at you as an individual, rather than as member of group. Not keen on being treated by randomer I haven’t researched - it’s a myth that all doctors are good or even competent. Not keen on waiting six months to be told not cancer by letter sent snail mail. Not keen on being asked if student can observe, then realising in fact they’re actually performing procedure without my consent. Not keen on dirty scruffy premises and men in loo. Not keen on being treated like malingerer if requesting pain relief. Not keen on being addressed by first name when doctors introduce themselves (if they bother) by their title…..

In contrast i can be treated as a fellow intelligent human being in pleasant surroundings by consultant of my choice - effectively treated as I would treat another.

Barney16 · 05/03/2026 21:34

Ocado shop every week
Hard back books
Hair. I spend a fortune my hair.

Agree with this. I had the double first but when they made the triple I saved up and got it. Well worth the money.
