Where is Israeli Air Force One Jet? Still in Berlin?

Trump is actively creating a State of Emergency so that he can cancel Midterms l

The whole "Oh, we'll sort everything out in the midterms because that's how wonderful US democracy is" that was peddled as a reason for doing fuck all isn't ageing well.

For some reason, there is a line in (the irony piles on) "American Pie"

"We all got up to dance,
But we never got a chance"

That I've always thought of when the cry of "too late" goes up.

(Does anyone remember a programme in the late 80s/early 90s called "Dream On" ? Where the main protagonist experienced reactions to events as clips from the TV shows he was sat in front of as a kid. I'm like that with some pop music).

Lindsey Graham “Our goal is to make sure (Iran) cannot become, again, the largest state sponsor of terrorism.

MTP Host: “But is there a plan? Does the president have a plan to guarantee that that happens?”

Graham: “No, it's not his job or my job to do this. How many times do I have to tell you!”

The goal of any military action is to ultimately degrade your enemies ability to fight a war.

If you can't do this, the war can't be ended militarily.

Even with boots on the ground, and a bombing campaign that made WW2 look like a dinner party, the US never once even came close to stopping the North Vietnamese and VietCong from fighting.

Afghanistan could also be mentioned. After 10 years, the USSR hadn't even scratched the Talibans capabilities. And then 20 years later, in 20 years the combined might of NATO the US proved incapable of preventing the enemy from waging war.

Add Korea.

In fact, thinking about it, WW2 (in the West), might be one of the only modern history wars that was "won". I say West in (), because it's not over for the PRC re Japan.

I watched the "Dambusters" today by the way.

I only mention the last bit because I just had a very nice wheat beer. And that is odd because I do not like wheat beer. But that extra 1.5% by volume feels very appreciated today.

Hic.

Since it's now official US government policy that removing the leader of a country is totally legal and shouldn't be challenged, can we assume that the next bloke to take a pot shot at Trump will be let off scot-free?

That's different.

Just ask any MAGA.

.

This gentleman has said the 'truest truth' yet as far as the likely result of this debacle.

Talkinpeace · 01/03/2026 16:10

The touching faith of people like Heather Cox Richardson
that the mid terms will produce a blue wave
is rather grating
they talk to each other in their bubble
block anybody (like me) who mentions reality
and wonder why phoning their congressman
will achieve exactly nothing.

Fatigue, diarrhea, vision blurriness.

So in other words, nothing he isn't experiencing already.

It certainly means the US will be justified in removing any world leaders that do not support Trump.

Denmark first (obs). Then Ukraine. Canada.

Looks like a start.

Fixed that bit for you.

I find someone of the responses to the bombing oddly naive. I say oddly because I can't tell if they haven't given the 'what comes next' stage any thought or that they are deliberately overlooking it.
I made this point on the Iran thread here and got a telling off from a poster!

I heard an Iranian lady, living in the U.K., on LBC and she was so happy and another lady said there are big celebrations going on in London I think it was - I really, really hope that there will be better times for them all,
Similar to the thread on MN after VZ. Happy, happy, happy, VZ people are celebrating all over the world so stop talking about next steps!

This was one of my first thoughts. VZ and Iran are the thin end of the wedge. The US has just provided the template for any country with power to do the same to a weaker country.
The world will get 'attack' fatigue eventually. We are living in dangerous times.

I'm currently at the End of the World, so will be unable to catch up on either the news or this thread soon.

Talkinpeace · 01/03/2026 16:39

Venezuela and Iran are inextricably linked.
The shadow tanker fleet and the manufacture of Shahed UAVs
and propping up Russia as it attacks Ukraine
its all one story.

Trump is being played

The first primaries of the mid-terms are this Tuesday, kicking off the 'real' primary season. Voters in Arkansas, North Carolina and Texas head to the polls. (Reminder for our non-US friends, this is where each state's political parties selects their individual candidate to run against each other in the general election in November.)

Texas will be interesting. They have two pretty opposite choices. One is more 'centrist' and one is more 'radical'. There has been discussion of "As Texas goes, so goes the party" when it comes to the Dem Party future, but I'm not too confident on that.

And so:

"Let the 238th Hunger Games begin. And may the odds be ever in OUR favour!"

I'm now off to 'backtrack' on our thread to catch up the overnight traffic lol

I was reading about Texas, and how Trump has a choice of 3, but won't endorse any.

All I can say is, I only know of Ken Paxton from the names I saw. And if Paxton is not nuts enough, not MAGA enough, and not full on lunatic enough for Trump, then WTF are the others like ?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/03/2026 17:07

RedTagAlan

Less disliked by the general public, I think.

Paxton is loved by the Maga mob, but unpopular with everyone else. With luck he will win the primaries and lose the election.

Justsaynonow · 01/03/2026 17:30

Putin apparently disapproves, or is trying to provoke Donny into more reactive behaviour.

... the killing of Khamenei was “a cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law.”

Though he already sounds hysterical that they didn't lie down and roll over.

Russian and Iranian links regarding defence strategies are well known. Plus oil and trade.

The In Moscow’s Shadows podcast with Mark Galeotti discussed the view from Russia today. A good listen and outlines why despite what they say the Russians are likely quite happy with developments.

PerkingFaintly · 01/03/2026 18:00

I would imagine the opportunity to make faux outraged statements about the US carrying out “a cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law” is one of the reasons the Russians are happy with developments.
