@persephonia - the reason I’m surprised is that none of them usually live under a rock, and two of them have stayed with us here, so you’d think they’d be interested! One might be travelling at the moment and away from the news, another might be busy with personal things troubling them at the moment, but the third has no excuse that I know of! Other friends in England have been aware of it almost since before we were, and contacted us to ask how we are faring, so I don’t really think it can be because the news from Cyprus has been played down in England.
@Talkinpeace - to be fair, I’ve lived here for 5 years now and still have trouble with the history of the Green Line and the Occupied North, let alone why there are still UK Sovereign bases here. It’s not obvious.

Yes, this is one of the big issues. Right or wrong (it was wrong), GWB did go before congress and make his case. Not only has the administration not done this, Trump had the biggest pulpit in the country at the state of the union and didn't say a word.

We’re being told to listen for sirens and shelter in rooms without windows if we hear the alarm being sounded. There’s a house made almost entirely of glass on top of the hill opposite our house, I hope they’ve got a windowless basement, otherwise they’ll be in deep trouble. We are going to have to confine ourselves to the tiny area between the shower room and the bedrooms, shutting the doors, and cut ourselves off with screens from the living-room if push comes to shove, such are the joys of open-plan bungalow life!
