That message he released yesterday he looked a lot .. different. Younger almost and with different hair. I kept looking to see if it was AI

Wouldn't surprise me if they used the same special effects computer program that they used to make Harrison Ford look 37 years old in the last Indiana Jones movie. I've seen it in other movies, it can age or de-age and the results look really good.

TiredCatLady · 02/03/2026 19:45

He’s looked ‘odd’ for a few days. Weird but not in a way I can put my finger on.
I had wondered, given he’s a vain fucker, whether he’d had some not so good Botox/filler as he looked so waxy for want of a better word. The rash looks like shingles.
Agree that if he’s speaking not in front of an audience, we may well be seeing an adjusted image.

Children, look away now.

whoa -- this is new. Trump has a significant rash-like injury on his neck today in addition to his disfigured hand

Allergy to the brass it's made of.

As a former care worker, that would be totally a list for treating. It would be on your notice for the nurse.

Good evening from Cyprus. I will end my day as I began it - fuck off, Keir Starmer and all who sail in you.
On a more positive note, thank you, Greece, for coming to the rescue (also with ulterior motives, but giving more support to Cyprus than the UK is):

So what would you have wanted Starmer to do?

Cyprus is a Greek and Turkish Island with British colonial influence.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 02/03/2026 20:13

Have the Turks done anything helpful?

How are things feeling over there? Word is they’re evacuating Akrotiri.

We would not expect that to happen. The Turkish government is not on the side of the island of Cyprus. It is occupying the north and it should not be. Turks and Greek Cypriots lived happily side by side till the latest intervention of the Brits in 1974. It’s been another sort of shit show here ever since.

I think RAF Akrotiri has already been evacuated, though apparently not the village of Akrotiri itself, but I could be wrong. I think @Igotjelly (was it you?) mentioned earlier today that family of theirs stationed at Episkopi (also UK occupied land in Cyprus) had been told to prepare to evacuate. I don’t know if that has happened yet, as news coming from the British bases is not up to date.

We were doing fine here until Starmer gave in to Trump and allowed the US to use the UK bases on Cyprus to deploy missiles to Iran, and immediately subsequently the Iranians announced their intent to attack the entire island of Cyprus because they believe that is the way to stop the US from attacking them. They appear not to comprehend that the island of Cyprus and the two UK bases are separate entities, so now the entire Republic of Cyprus feels under attack because of RAF Akrotiri (which is in the UK, despite being on Cyprus), being allowed to be used by the US.

Yes family in Epi, lived there for years too. It feels so unreal that Cyprus is in the firing line but always amazes me how many folk don’t know how close to the ME Cyprus is!

Honestly, no. It is massively complicated and shameful and another mess. But simply put, and to the best of my limited understanding, Cyprus once was an island in and of itself, with Greek and Turkish Cypriots living side by side, without too much friction. Then Britain intervened, indirectly causing a civil war. Now the island of Cyprus is divided into the southern part, the Republic of Cyprus, and the Occupied North, where Turkey invaded in 1974. Turkey and Greece have long been enemies. That is the bare bones of it, there is so much more that I don’t understand myself and I am doubtless not explaining it properly. Wikipedia is probably a better friend to you for this than I am.

DuncinToffee · 02/03/2026 21:15

MoD reported that the Cyprus base was attacked before the UK granted US access to 2 air bases.

CENTCOM says six U.S. service members have now been killed due to ongoing military operations related to Iran.

TiredCatLady · 02/03/2026 21:16

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom I’m very much with you on Fuck Kier Starmer.
I’m getting 50 Shades of Tony Bastard Blair from him. Who, incidentally, has been awfully quiet the last few weeks.

My silliest aunt (this is simply fact: she was highly intelligent, a trained doctor, and daft as a brush) married a man who described himself as a Turkish Cypriot.

All by himself with no help from anyone else, he permanently biased my feeling in the matter of Cyprus to being in favour of the Greek Cypriots. This was before the 1974 invasion.

You’re right, the timing of that is odd and there is speculation here that the first drone strike was from Hezbollah out of Lebanon, and not from Iran. Nonetheless, the report from Iran that they will attack Cyprus because of the US military presence here is bloody frightening.

It is really frightening for you all. I hope all will stay quiet.

I just don't know what the UK realistically could have done differently

Badenoch and Farage would have us join in with the bombing

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 02/03/2026 21:48

Realistically, the UK could have not allowed the US to use the UK bases on Cyprus for attacks on Iran.
And yes, I would have expected that from the Tories and Farage, but Starmer’s done a Blair, and I don’t appreciate it today, as I didn’t appreciate it in 2003.

I thought it was Diego Garcia and a base in the UK?

RAF Akrotiri on the island of Cyprus is officially in the UK.

You know what I mean.

The BBC understands the US is likely to use RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean for strikes on Iranian missile sites.
