Please help me with comfortable knickers

I have worn M&S full knickers size 18 since I had my DDs - I loved them and they were always comfortable. Then I lost weight and bought the same in a smaller size 12- I constantly have an uncomfortable knicker-up-the-bum situation and it's genuinely getting me down. I went up sizes - even all the way back up to a size 18. Nothing is right anymore.

People on here always recommend M&S full briefs, so is my bum just deformed or misshapen after weight loss? It looks normal-ish to the untrained eye. The gussets (shiver, hate that word) just seem so narrow 😩. I teach all day and cannot be constantly waiting to rearrange my underwear!

Please recommend me something reasonably priced which might help!

Tesco f&f lace shorts-style pants- no vpl, cheap and last forever!!

KnickerlessParsons · 26/02/2026 16:48

Have you looked at Odd Balls knickers? I love them.

letshavetea · 26/02/2026 16:54

Chantelle full knickers are my favourite. Seamless and so comfortable.

I have been recently buying Sloggi from Amazon. Sometimes they are on offer. I am mid fifties and menopausal and they have been great for me- really nice, cool and comfortable. I got to a point where I couldn’t bear to wear any of my fancy, lacy stuff. 🤣

Seelybe · 26/02/2026 17:19

@Plusplug I swear by these. Have worj them for decades

Update - I ordered some Wirarpa last night and they came from Amazon today. I am about a size 12 and ordered medium. I love the material and the style, but the elastic on the leg holes is a bit snug. Would you size up, or will it stretch over time, does anyone know?

Another vote for Wirapa. Their boxers are incredible. They wash really well and have wide gussets. So comfortable. Size up, they come up quite small.

Ah, wish I'd seen this yesterday! The medium I bought are a bit snug around the leg holes and I don't suppose I can return them (tried on over existing underwear). It's a shame because I can tell I'll love them.

I have Innersey & Wirarapa as recommended on here. I think I prefer the Innersey, but maybe I bought the wrong Wirarapa ones. One set are extremely comfy but so massive & ugly I don't wear them to the gym because I don't want anyone to see them 😂. The others are comfy & hard wearing but remind me if the navy knickers I had to wear at school!

This is it! I've been trying to think what they remind me of, and it's my school PE knickers! Not that that's a bad thing - I quite like it.

Asda full briefs are usually fine if you want a budget option. Tesco are comfortable but I find they tear at the elastic parts quite quickly.

Came here to say these! The Flexifit microfibre ones are very comfortable, seem wider around the back due to them being ‘shorts shape’ and having a lower leg. Also the leg holes have a panel of stretchy material rather than the usual scratchy leg elastic. They do them in a full option as well but I haven’t tried them so can’t comment on whether they ride up or not.

Yes the flex fit full versions are perfect. No elastic at edges

OneMagentaViper · 26/02/2026 19:09

George mid rise for the win, gusset wider than a pantyliner!

Mancity08 · 26/02/2026 19:19

I always buy my knickers from M&S mainly but this last year NO they don’t fit my bum right. I buy 14 and even gone to 16 which I’m not.
Sainsburys are just as bad

Failedcrunchymum · 26/02/2026 21:14

For a budget brand, Bon Prix did some ladies high rise boxer briefs which I bought last year and I'm never going back to other styles. Actually that's reminded me to buy some more.

Mardybums are amazing. I bought some after seeing them recommended here and have phased out every other make I had. An added bonus is being able to choose the pattern to match my day/mood/weather.

FancyCatSlave · 26/02/2026 21:31

I like black cotton midi ones from Asda or Sainsbury’s or Next.
All M&S are crap now apart from their period pants.

SailingYachty · 26/02/2026 21:31

M&S bikini briefs! Less material than the full briefs and fit me much better.

OSTMusTisNT · 27/02/2026 01:05

So, it's not just me imagining M&S have a narrower gusset, so annoying as I've been buying the same style for well over 20 years and honestly though my peri menopausal body had randomly widened.

Definitely going to look at your suggestions as I'm fed up of spontaneous garrotting of the flappage and constantly 'howking'.

I’ve read reviews online which mention the narrow gusset issue too.

Footle · 27/02/2026 12:15

Are Wirarpa different from Innersy? They look similar.

My review was one of them, one of many on the same theme. 😔

Similar in that they are fairly sturdy but not the same style, or at least the ones I've got aren't. Innersey have quite a distinctive waistband.

Footle · 28/02/2026 08:49

@Wonderknicks Innersy waistband is really comfortable so I’ll stick with them. Thank you.

Aphroditesangel · 28/02/2026 08:54

Waitrose sell some really comfortable full briefs ( I have the same issue with M&S). Also available in John Lewis.

mimiasovitch · 28/02/2026 09:30

@stargirl27i personally haven’t tried Underdays, but eldest daughter swears by them, and I buy her a few pairs every Christmas.
I love British Boxers - high rise, super soft and comfy, and less sturdy (in a good way) than some I’ve tried. I’m not a fan of the ones that you almost have to use two hands to pull down!
