Please help me with comfortable knickers

I have worn M&S full knickers size 18 since I had my DDs - I loved them and they were always comfortable. Then I lost weight and bought the same in a smaller size 12- I constantly have an uncomfortable knicker-up-the-bum situation and it's genuinely getting me down. I went up sizes - even all the way back up to a size 18. Nothing is right anymore.

People on here always recommend M&S full briefs, so is my bum just deformed or misshapen after weight loss? It looks normal-ish to the untrained eye. The gussets (shiver, hate that word) just seem so narrow 😩. I teach all day and cannot be constantly waiting to rearrange my underwear!

Please recommend me something reasonably priced which might help!

All MS knickers are now poor quality 😭

There’s nothing M&S can’t and won’t screw up. They were the go to place for knickers. I live abroad and most of the women I know bought their pants in the UK! But M&S just won’t stick with decent products. They always have to reduce quality. WHY?? I’ve bought the microfiber full knicker giant ones for more than a decade, and suddenly the cut is different and they’re useless 🤯

I like sloggi…

Wirarpa on Amazon are v good.

Another vote for Wirapa. Their boxers are incredible. They wash really well and have wide gussets. So comfortable. Size up, they come up quite small.

ElizaCBennett · 26/02/2026 10:39

F&F from Tesco! Just like M&S in style, but more bum coverage - and cheaper!

SideshowAuntSallyxx · 26/02/2026 11:27

I bought some M&S knickers and they had virtually no gusset, when I put them on I may as well have gone commando they covered so little.

TU at Sainsbury's are good.

Justploddingonandon · 26/02/2026 11:57

After years of trying various types of knickers from m&s (and other places) and not finding one that covered everything and didn't end up up my bum crack, a friend introduced me to women's boxers and I am fully converted (although I don't wear panty liners so not sure how well one would fit). I got mine from Oddballs but I'm sure there are better and cheaper options available.

gerispringer · 26/02/2026 13:51

Step One full briefs or boxers.

I have worn m and s size 12-14 for years. It’s not you- yes yes yes went to get some new ones and they are horrible and uncomfortable. Ended up getting some from Asda and Sainsbury’s in the end but yes bring back nice comfy pants

The gusset it divided me in half literally I measured it with a ruler 2 cm!! I must admit I did take them back full briefs and more like thongs!

I wore one pair and pulled them down and got a hole in them, never happened ever.

Agree. I won't buy any others now, they're so comfortable, wash well and last for ages.

Manymoresometimes · 26/02/2026 14:01

I love these! Full coverage, soft material and the lace top keeps my lil tum tucked in!

OP I agree with you about M&S. For some unknown reason they are making the gusset narrower on some pants, making them uncomfortable, and difficult to hold a panty liner. Due to the enthusiasm about Wirapa I bought some and though they are very comfy, the material they’re made from means the liner does not stick to the gusset, making it at risk of falling into the loo. The search for perfect pants goes on!

I have the same issue with M&S knickers too. I've been purchasing the same style for about 4 years and the latest batch bought about a month ago, I've noticed the narrower gusset which is not really wide enough for panty liners.
I understand the need for manufacturers to cut back a bit to maintain the selling price but this is a cut too far. Frankly I'd rather pay a bit more for comfort.
It takes the meaning of shrinkflation to a whole new level. 🙄

Stripe and Stare are good but they don’t hold a liner well. You need to find some that say extra secure to ensure they stick down and don’t end up stuck to your leg or worse fall out the bottom of our trousers. It nearly happened to me..

Found same with Wirapa, which is a shame as they are so comfortable

Wonderknicks · 26/02/2026 14:47

I have Innersey & Wirarapa as recommended on here. I think I prefer the Innersey, but maybe I bought the wrong Wirarapa ones. One set are extremely comfy but so massive & ugly I don't wear them to the gym because I don't want anyone to see them 😂. The others are comfy & hard wearing but remind me if the navy knickers I had to wear at school!

I finally found some knickers that actually stayed up from M and S. I was delighted. Unfortunately the gusset is ridiculously narrow . I had to throw them all away.

Thank you for all the suggestions - I'll start looking up some of these.

It's M&S that I'm having such problems with, which has really knocked my faith in the world because of there's one thing I thought I could rely on, it's M&S knickers! There just doesn't seem to be enough material now, despite there being 5 stone less of me.

It’s not just you. I bought a pack from m&s and had to throw them out, as they were not fit for purpose. I had some really great ones from Uniqlo but they have now changed the shape and have the same problem. 😥

Allseeingallknowing · 26/02/2026 14:57

I have contacted M&S about the narrow gussets, and asked them to read this thread!

Sainsbury full are comfortable, 7 pack which I buy each summer ready for my holiday

That was my mother in laws’s reason for stopping buying M&S knickers. Virtually no gusset.

ChocolateHobbit · 26/02/2026 16:06

I had the exact same problem. I bought some Innersey pants from Amazon and have never looked back.
