What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:

You're right, of course. Emojis are only for serious busines, as follows.

"Sadly, after a long life, John took his last breath and passed away this evening 💀👻⚰️🥀🧟‍♀️"
"Unfortunately, the tests have come back and it's a serious condition 😷🤮🤒💉🦠"
"Regrettably, the company has folded into bankruptcy and you will all lose your jobs effective immediately, and we cannot pay you 📉💸💼☠️🤑❌".

How dare anyone use emojis for fun?!

What a ridiculous post. You appear to have chosen to wilfully misunderstand my point. Nothing to do with serious vs not serious. The emoji was withdrawn because it was used to mock.

Unless, of course, you consider mockery and fun to be one and the same thing?

The person in my extended family who voted Brexit to 'get the Asians out'. Racist and thick.

Ugh yes, way too many people voted Brexit for this deluded so-called reason.

Oh, and those pillocks who admitted they voted Brexit purely for 'shits and giggles' or whatever. I personally thought they deserved to have their right to vote rescinded for at least a few years, pity that kind of thing isn't enforceable.

Anti-vaxxers, especially if they say they're not putting "chemicals" in their bodies, or that the vaccines are worse than the diseases they prevent. If those people had seen the devastating effects of measles encephalitis, tetanus or polio in unvaccinated children, they might feel very differently.

Anyone who refers to Keir Starmer as "Keir Harmer" , "Two-Tier Keir" or any other stupid nickname.

Anyone who sees Farage as this country's saviour. I think he's a lazy, rabble-rousing grifter who would do a great deal of harm, especially to the NHS.

Anyone under the age of about 60 who smokes. Whatever made you think that taking up this habit was a good idea?

I don't think most people who put pronouns in their email signatures are stupid, but I do see it as a sign that they probably haven't thought things through.

Cattenberg · 06/02/2026 14:29

If we're talking specifically about MN, then the adults in this scenario:

A single mum and a single dad move in together with their children. Fine. But they then proceed to have two more children they don't have space for. And then the mum asks on AIBU if she would BU to make her step-son sleep on the sofa for the next ten years.

If it's the placebo effect, that proves that homeopathy doesn't work.

I'm not saying it works, I'm saying that if people take it believing it will work, it sometimes does anyway. Obviously that doesn't include serious illnesses, but it does appear to work for minor complaints.

Yes, some posters were using the laughing emoji to be cruel, and this is why it was axed. It doesn't need to come back. If they DO ever bring it back, they should make it visible to everyone, so other posters can see when someone is being a twat and a bully.

A lot of them are pretty good at showing themselves for who they are, tbf...

People who think that Covid is just a cold.

People who use the term ‘boomer’ and who think that said ‘boomers’ all behave exactly the same, think the same way and all had it easy financially. I’m not from that generation by the way. I’m just pissed off on their behalf.

Anti abortionists. Never met one who had two brain cells to rub together.

I agree about 'boomers', especially when people come on here bemoaning the fact that they were all able to buy their council houses. Firstly no, they didn't. I technically fall into that territory by a year or so, and when I came to leave home there were no council houses available for love nor money. My DM was a widow and couldn't afford to buy hers anyway. So I inherited diddly squat from her.

Secondly, the people complaining about them appear to be forgetting they are probably bitching about their own grandparents.😂

Thirdly, those grandparents may very well end up in a nursing home and the government will claw back huge sums of their property value in care home fees. But the complainers will be at it again and moaning about how unfair that is.

We used to call him Steir Karmer (i.e steer calmer) it wasn't meant as a insult, far from it, although he's now steering on to the rocks.

But some conspiracies have turned out to be true?

Maybe one in a million... Which does not make looney bin theorists any more credible.

It’s not one in a million.
Some of the most insane, far fetched ones have turned out to be true.
Surely the only sensible approach is to consider each and every one individually rather than assume they’re all “looney bin theorists”?

Genuinely curious as to why?

Me too. Apparently collagen production falls off a cliff after menopause and your gut lining is made of collagen. Hence why so many women over 50 have GI issues. I only learned this yesterday and am intending to start taking it.

In fact the people I think are idiots are the people who produce health information which appears to only be aimed at men and forget that women are not little men!

igelkott2026 · 06/02/2026 17:19

I also don't like the constant going on about Gen X, boomers Gen Z etc.

As if everyone born in the same decade or so thinks the same!

MoonWoman69 · 06/02/2026 17:25

And people wondering why, in the light of the thalidomide tragedy in the 50s, it made people dubious about putting chemicals into their bodies!

Who should we vote for in order to be intelligent?

Cuki · 06/02/2026 18:08

Labour voters
