What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:
Butteredtoast55 · 05/02/2026 20:30

People who wear pyjamas and slippers in public places, and people who say 'Why do you care?' if anyone starts a thread about it.
People who have unnecessary cosmetic surgery, people who treat animals as fashion accessories. People who give their babies ridiculous names with ridiculously complicated spellings and get their babies' ears pierced. What next, babies with tattoos?
Also, the misuse of the apostrophe.

People who think that simply recognising that men cannot become women (or vice versa) is transphobia

You

unbelievablybelievable · 05/02/2026 20:31

Anyone who claims they, "tell it as it is" or "people hate me because I tell the truth". Unequivocally, it's that people hate you because you're an idiot.

People who pay for personalised number plates, or the 3D ones.

If your second-hand car came with them, fine. But to actually pay money for barely legible ‘words’ or to advertise your initials to the world in an age of identity theft? A fool and their money are soon parted.

Even worse when they have to use strategically placed screws to make the word nearly fathomable.

NoPeasForTheWicked · 05/02/2026 20:37

99% of people on local Facebook spotted pages

Anyone still saying Tony B Liar as if it’s the height of wit

People that believe in the moon landing with the technology that was available in the 60s - we couldn’t even do it today.

People who don't believe we landed on the moon.

hollystar500 · 05/02/2026 20:39

People that take their children out of the school in term time “for the culture” and it’s ten nights in Tenerife

Sadza · 05/02/2026 20:39

People who take collagen supplements.

igelkott2026 · 05/02/2026 20:39

People who inject their lips with god knows what.

Ah yes, that too!

Antivaxxers
People who talk about their 'socials' and spend half their lives posting photos to social media.
People who make really basic mistakes with their English and don't tell me you're dyslexic, that's not what I mean. I mean 'would of', 'brought/bought' mixed up, 'ect' which they presumably pronounce eckcetera.
People who say they're rubbish at things when they've actually never tried to learn. I mean really basic things like straightforward cooking or sewing a hem.
People whose weekend entertainment is drinking to excess, every weekend.
People who smoke or vape under bus shelters. It's actually illegal is the shelter is more than 50% covered.
PEOPLE WHO DO NOT TRAIN THEIR DOGS. AT. ALL. I'm not talking about Crufts-level obedience classes, I'm talking about the people who walk along with the dog essentially dangling from its lead, barking at everyone and making lunges at anything its interested in.

Fireside10 · 05/02/2026 20:42

People who don't train their dog, don't pick up its crap, assume everyone loves and wants to be jumped on/pawed at.

People who use social media as a form of news.

People who buy knock off items, ignoring the fact it's likely been made by someone trapped in modern slavery, same for or recreational drugs.

People who assume I don't drive due to my own stupidity, inability or laziness.

People who assume their Council tax only goes towards fixing pot holes and not the huge social care requirement society has.

justtheotheronemrswembley · 05/02/2026 16:41

People who drive a Tesla.

People who start a thread on Mumsnet and don't come back to it.

People who have no idea what real misogyny is, but bandy the term about and accuse other women of it anyway.

People who put bottles sideways on a supermarket conveyor belt so they roll back and forth annoyingly.

The people at my place of work who chose our new accounts software.

That'll do for starters.

But I love it when the bottles roll on the conveyor, I find it fascinating!

People who think a good time equals a lot of alcohol and can’t conceive of having a good time without it
People who can’t spell
People who don’t read
People who get their news from the Daily Mail
Those who shove their religious views on others
Misogynistic men
Fake nails, fake tan and lip fillers
People who think their sexuality is of fascinating interest to others
People who ask questions and then don’t listen to the answer and talk about themselves to the point where you lose the will to live .

I used to think people who don't read were idiots. But I've changed my opinion. My other half is quite intelligent. Has a first class degree in economics and a quite a good job, and he hasn't read a book since I've been with him (9 years!). And knowing a few others who you would assume were quite well read, but no! Plus I know lots of idiots who do read regularly 😏😆

CyanMaker · 05/02/2026 20:50

People who believe the lies coming out of Trump's mouth and still support and praise him. Similarly. they think Melania is classy and to be admired.

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 05/02/2026 20:51

Educated middle class people who don’t seem to realise that others did not have the same advantages that they did and look down upon others because they don’t have the same level of spelling and grammar that they have. People need to think outside their own little bubble occasionally.

HateBeingInsideMyHead · 05/02/2026 20:53

Sadza · 05/02/2026 20:39

People who take collagen supplements.

Genuinely curious as to why?

Dymaxion · 05/02/2026 20:53

People who assume their Council tax only goes towards fixing pot holes and not the huge social care requirement society has.

Definitely this ! Mind you people forget that the council didn't pay for elderly social care as it does now, that was the remit of the NHS with its long-term hospital beds ( years stays as opposed to months ), local authorities took over and Boom , this saw the rise of private providers and now LA's are paying hand over fist for a service they never really budgeted for, at a time when budgets have been slashed. Somebody is benefiting, but isn't the taxpayer !

Mapletree1985 · 05/02/2026 20:55

I hadn't thought of that...

People who can't spell

Really? Speaking as someone who used to regularly win spelling bees, spelling seems like a very trivial skill to me.
