I’ve been looking and applying since September. I had one job offer but the conditions were not great so I declined it. I’m really struggling now, applications take so long and I’m not being shortlisted, I used to get shortlisted for pretty much everything I applied for!
anyone else also losing the will to live?

I get the interviews but then don’t get past them. Trying since July and definitely feeling a little hopeless. Trying to find answers in that moment feels like reaching blindly into fog.

So after some BS at work last week, I applied for about 45 senior roles over the weekend with compensation between £70-130k.

So far received 5 rejections, 1 interview for a role over £100k.

How on earth did you apply for so many?!

I’m feeling so fed up today! 😭

I've been looking since the New Year - had a great career in Digital but had to come away from the workforce due to some caring responsibilities so am now applying after a 6 year break. Applications take so long! I'm not sure if AI makes it easier or not - probably - but by the time you've edited the output to make it sound vaguely human again I'm not sure if you've really saved any time 😂I've already had a few rejections and no bites yet but just got to keep the faith and not take it all too personally!

I pretty much applied for them over a few days so it wasn’t too onerous.

I had another hiring screen/interview today. It was totally impromptu and was really in depth and intense. But she has put me forward to the next stage!!

Its brutal out there ime. I've had a couple of interviews and both went to people.with more experience in the job. I think they have people.lined up. You have to keep going though. Its tough and the pay is awful unless you're going for higher roles.

Are you using AI? Its quite useful

I am using it strategically yes, mainly to compare my cv to the jd

I’ve been applying for the last 6 months or so and it’s been brutal!

I’ve been ghosted after applying, ghosted after interviews, travelled an hour for a face to face interview only to he told they’d dropped the salary by £15k 😩 it’s been so stressful!

Was finally offered something with civil service, not great money but needed a job as my current contract was coming to an end but now I’ve just been offered something better so just waiting for the contract to come through.

Hang in there, it’s tough at the minute but you’ll get there.

It’s mad. In the past two decades I’ve got every job I’ve ever applied for, minus one where I got down to the final few out of around 200.
Now so many people are applying for every job, the recruiters are taking ages to get back to people. And I can guarantee loads of the applications will be people clicking apply with no real proper covering letter etc and then the job gets closed off due to too many applicants! So it’s finding the time to write an application before it closes off!

Thank you. I’m sorry you’re also finding it tough but it’s reassuring for me. I desperately need to move on.

I’m having a huge crisis of self - confidence today. I’ve been obsessively refreshing LinkedIn and indeed all day and still so fed up I haven’t been shortlisted for roles I spent hours tailoring applications for.

I’m fed up of job roles being taken off after 2 days! It’s becoming a nightmare. Another one shut off today - luckily it was email so sent it off anyway. It was open this morning!

@fashionqueen0123 wow. That’s not been my experience but my sector is notoriously slow for recruitment. I’m glad you got it in.

I’m convinced there are people just clicking apply with no real experience. 400 applied for the last one I contacted!

So update for me, I have had 3 interviews so far. 2 went well and had one this morning which I don’t think went well at all. Didn’t really click with the lady asking questions and she wasn’t as personable as the other employers I met up with.

I think you’re looking at the wrong side of this. Don’t worry about other candidates.

Employers themselves will be feeding your CV through AI to see if you’re a potential match. So by not using AI, you might just be filtering yourself out of AI screening tools they have.
