Why can’t you sleep?

My body clock is wonky since coming back from a short break overseas.

I’m trying not to stress. Last night I took nytol but felt groggy today. I’m now in a quiet lounge with sleeping dogs. Have had a snack watching Netflix.

if you’re awake (in the UK) what are you up to? The days of feeding newborns are long gone for me - what’s happening in your house if you’re awake? 🙂

I’ve been waking at 4/5am most days as I came off some medication which really made me sleep and my body clock doesn’t appear to have reset itself yet. I try to go back to sleep after a cup of tea and snack, sometimes it works sometimes not. Insomnia is a bugger!

My teenage daughter woke me up at 5am painting her nails and now I cant get back to sleep because I'm so annoyed with her.
The worst thing is that she flatly denied what she was doing despite there being a strong smell of nail varnish.

Menopause, plus bereavement admin stressing me out. Plus grief I suppose. Feeling at odds with the world. Might try some crap telly.

I’ve had a Brest reduction (finally yay!) and have to ‘sleep’ on my back for 4-6 weeks. I can’t sleep on my back. So I’m awake. A lot!

Good afternoon everyone 🙂

thabkyou for your company last night. I slept 5-8am then got up to volunteer at parkrun. Quick nap before playing hockey. Now home and going to stay awake until a normal bedtime 💪🏻

My 2 year old is going through a patch of waking around 2am, roaring the house down, then eventually settling around 4am. But now I’m too awake to sleep so I’m on the Sleep forum reading about others’ poor sleep to make me feel less alone 😂

My DD used to do this. Never left her to cry, breastfed through the night till she was 2 etc etc but she was a middle of the night screamer nonetheless! I always worried the neighbours would be thinking that we were awful unresponsive parents but my goodness I did everything I could! It passed and at 7 DD does sleep! Have had a child in my bed every night for 8 years now. I am sure I will miss is when they stop
coming though!

Anyone else looking forward to another night of no or broken sleep? 🌺 🙃

henlake7 · 31/01/2026 21:25

Wish I'd found this thread last night when I was awake half the night....mostly because my dog is an insomniac!
All I could hear was her nails clacking on the floorboards and the occasional whine when she wanted to get on the bed (she can't come up coz she can't get safely down again).
If she keeps me awake tonight I'm locking her in a cupboard!😆

I’m hoping I’ll be alright tonight BUT I might be disturbed by daughter and husband (separately) coming home.

im just having a cup of tea now then will go up. Hopefully if I’m fast asleep I won’t be disturbed.

anyone else want to share their sleepy tactics?

We have all sorts of dog related antics in this house. Barking when there’s a fox, needing a wee… boredom?

Work keeps me awake at night. It's hard to switch off, for one thing. But the most difficult thing is pupil behaviour and knowing I'll get shit from parents for trying to deal with it.

I think mine is due to her being 17 yrs old and just starting to get muddled at night (i only lost her 16 yr old sister a few months ago to dementia so im kinda used to it).

A few nights ago I spent all night worrying about an attempted charge on my bank card for a huge amount that came up on my phone. It wasn't til morning I realised the text wasn't even from my bank!😆

There are some very entitled parents out there....

BeautifulTulips · 31/01/2026 23:48

Work, I’m a school safeguarding lead and deal on a weekly basis with awful cases which social care aren’t interested in. Genuinely scared that something will happen to a child at my school and feel like I can’t do enough. I also worry that I will miss something important . And my family think I finish work at 4 and have long holidays…

cantsleepwontsl33p · 01/02/2026 11:15

Hope everyone got some sleep last night. 13 hours for me! Was going to get up at 8 but fell back to sleep and here we are.

manifesting a peaceful day for us all 🙂
