Why can’t you sleep?

cantsleepwontsl33p · 31/01/2026 01:27

My body clock is wonky since coming back from a short break overseas.

I’m trying not to stress. Last night I took nytol but felt groggy today. I’m now in a quiet lounge with sleeping dogs. Have had a snack watching Netflix.

if you’re awake (in the UK) what are you up to? The days of feeding newborns are long gone for me - what’s happening in your house if you’re awake? 🙂

Because I live with an actual warthog. Now in DD’s bed, with the dogs, who are happy because he tries to ban them from our bedroom, not always successfully.

My four year old has diarrhea and for the second night in a row has needed to go
to the toilet a few times. No other symptoms so I’m busy googling….wondering if it’s worms. Oh joy.

Bless him, no accidents though, just needing a hand. but I’m awake…

@Focusispower Ahhh, poor wee guy! Hopefully it eases off soon 🤞🏼 and hopefully he’s just eaten something that hasn’t agreed with him and you’re not having to deal with worms or something!

@cantsleepwontsl33p The snoring was horrendous. I spent years going and sleeping in the spare room or on the couch just to try and get some sleep and I’d still hear him 🫠
Our current issue is that he now sleeps so deeply since getting his CPAP that he doesn’t hear DS when he wakes. Like DS could literally be standing in the room bawling his eyes out and DH is blissfully unaware. And not in a “I’ll just keep my eyes shut and let her deal with it” kind of way - waking him is like trying to wake a corpse 🫠
I have tried earplugs but I just cannot sleep when I can’t hear my surroundings. I panic that I wouldn’t hear DS if he needed me. And I was in a house that was burgled when I was younger and didn’t hear it happening and I think that has left me with a real fear of not hearing what’s around me. I also can’t wear headphones.

Yes I couldn’t wear earplugs when mine were younger.

Theres a reason sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture. Awful

It’s good to know you are not alone.

notwittywithusernames · 31/01/2026 04:00

Dd 4 wanted to sleep in my bed, ok. Got woken just after 3am to mummy I'm sticky. No not sticky, sicky. Just been cleaning up now wide awake

cantsleepwontsl33p · 31/01/2026 04:05

I have a 6 month old baby who wakes 2 hourly or less and we’ve just been up for 45 mins. I’m now wide awake… we’re finishing her nursery this weekend and moving her in with her big cot. Just praying this means a bit more rest for me (whilst also feeling emotional about how big she’s gotten). I’m on my knees with sleep deprivation but I have older kids too I have to keep going for.

mammyx3 · 31/01/2026 04:13

It’s hard doing the night feeds. I had a 1 year old and then twins it feels like yesterday. They are 18 and 16 now

Izzy24 · 31/01/2026 04:14

Woken up by an alarm on my phone for a Teams call WTAF? No idea how it happened as haven’t even activated Teams on my home phone.

And the irony of this being the first night in forever that I was asleep as usually chronically insomniac 🤷‍♀️

Philandbill · 31/01/2026 04:15

Much sympathy to all those with illness in the house. Menopause for me, blasted hot flushes. I'm awake and asleep all night every night. I used to sleep so well and now I'm permanently tired. Could be worse though!

Zanatdy · 31/01/2026 04:18

I have had bad sleep for 3yrs or more, but last month its been even earlier, between 3-4am. Not sure if perI (i’m 49) as the only symptom but I am so tired every day and I work full time so hard going. Might go and see the GP again.

Northernmummyoftwo2026 · 31/01/2026 04:24

Feeding dc2 here… zzzz had only just got back to sleep after dc1 woke

TurquoiseKiss · 31/01/2026 04:25

My 2 year old is going through a patch of waking around 2am, roaring the house down, then eventually settling around 4am. But now I’m too awake to sleep so I’m on the Sleep forum reading about others’ poor sleep to make me feel less alone 😂

mammyx3 · 31/01/2026 04:27

Yes it’s good to know you’re not the only one. My anxiety has settled but I get a surge when I drift off and it wakes me back up

madeofmore · 31/01/2026 04:39

I’m an insomnia sufferer too, part of my chronic illness. Tonight I’m thinking a lot about friendships that have either dwindled or shown no interest since I became worse and much more house bound. Though there are a few newer lovely friends who know me in my new life because of school runs, and have been lovely, I am very sad that my truly really old best friends have been too busy to see me in the last 2-3 years. But their lives have been incredibly busy and we are scattered I suppose. I recently tried to reach out to finally admit I was feeling hurt in the hope I could get to the bottom
of things and maybe explain just how bad things are but I think in doing so I’ve offended them and now I’m worrying about everything and what to do. Anxiety is another aspect of illness but physical symptoms are main illness. Every day is the same and I’ve lost so much confidence, I very often just scroll away through the early hours, whilst in this weird zombie state as dc and dh sleep. I’m sending gentle hugs to everyone here and appreciate the solidarity in sharing our thoughts a little.

Racingadmin · 31/01/2026 04:39

Dh is snoring - he bought an expensive new pillow yesterday - it hasn’t helped

madeofmore · 31/01/2026 04:42

Dh snores too. I sleep on the sofa a lot but tonight I’m in youngest dc’s room while he camps out on sofa bed in living room.

Possiblynotever · 31/01/2026 04:42

You are not alone. Poor sleeper since I had my first child. Menopause was horrendous, I would go to bed at 11 and wake up at 2. Now, it is mainly anxiety...I crochet listening to podcasts...finished one bedspread since early December

Sanpellegrino1 · 31/01/2026 04:44

Pregnat

Cloudninelau · 31/01/2026 04:47

I have a throat that feels like I am swallowing razor blades every time I swallow. I have woken up at 4am all week with the worst pain 😢 now sitting up watching would I lie to you to give the painkillers some time to work

Winteriscoming80 · 31/01/2026 04:55

Sick of not getting paid correctly from my job,I’m only part time so it’s really noticeable.

MassiveOvaryaction · 31/01/2026 05:04

Joyous combination of heartburn and dh's bloody snoring here. Seriously, he may as well be shouting "I'm having such a lovely sleep!". Git.

Aerodiabetes · 31/01/2026 01:31

Psoriasis driving me crazy. It’s so sore and itchy that I can’t help scratching 😭

I have it too. It's not that bad at the moment -except when I'm just about to nod off. 🥺

Tonight I'm up drinking. I rarely drink, but sometimes I fancy it.

SapphireSeptember · 31/01/2026 05:09

I woke up to go to the loo and now I have horrendous period pain, so now I can't sleep. My periods are a lot worse since I had DS 18 months ago and I had a c section, so I find the scar hurts when I'm on my period as well. 😭

calanaiscailleach · 31/01/2026 05:10

My elderly cat is being PTS next week and I’m fretting about whether I’ve made the right decision. I think I know in my heart I have but there’s a little voice that keeps saying I’m a heartless cow Confused
