They know exactly what they’re doing, @JoshLymanSwagger. I’ll bet it’s part of the Project 2025 game-plan.

Give the penguin a prize. Nobel Peace prize perhaps? 😂

I read something about this a while ago. I think base salary is 40,000-80,000(ish) depending on experience, etc. They were offering signing bonuses of around 40 or 50,000, but I think they were contingent on length of contract, and to be paid out over the length. There is some talk that there are bonuses for arrests/deportations, but I don't know if that's true.

Their hiring practices do not seem beyond reproach

Thank you for posting this. I’ve also wondered if they get a day rate when they are deployed away from their main base. That could rack up if they’ve been deployed somewhere like Minnesota for several weeks.

boatyardblues · 25/01/2026 13:57

Wow. Those really are outlandish bonuses. 😬

This very good from Dana Bash

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3mdawbdj35y2r

BOVINO: He was in the scene actively impeding and assaulting law enforceme--

BASH: But he wasn't impeding. He was filming, which is a legal thing to do in the United States

BOVINO: Dana, let's not freeze frame adjudicate this now

I was wondering about the cost last week.

I saw a thing about protests outside the hotel ICE were staying at. There was 2k ICE then, now it's 3k. It appears all from out of state ? High wages, probably being paid 24/7 when away, hotels, flights, food, expenses, vehicle hire ( or new), tear gas by the shipping container, pepper spray by the tanker. And guns, lots of guns.

Then today I saw a bit on the CNN feed. DHS claims thousands of people detained in Minnesota. The local cops say a few hundred. And remember, about 48% of people who ICE detain are already in jail, with deportation orders.

Imagine the accountants working all that out on a cost per deportation.

And for what ? Because apart from convicts already in jail, they are picking up people who are working, paying tax, not able to claim benefits.

Yeah, cost don't matter when it comes to MAGA voters feeling good that they are not at the bottom of the pile.

Its funny how
"but he was carrying a gun"
is now seen as a bad thing by Republicans
who for years have shouted
"we need the right to carry guns at all times"

I repeat:

We are watching the second amendment being dismantled with Republicans undoing the screws.

You need to realise how many morons in the UK would happily give up their human rights as long as it irritated the Libtards.

I see nothing special about the American people that prevents it happening there.

Remember how many immigrants voted for ICE. Tricking MAGArats out of their guns is just a similar exercise.

What are Minesota gun owners Caucus saying ?

This site is geoblocked for me. Should be interesting.

We are deeply concerned by this morning’s reports that a federal law enforcement operation in Minneapolis resulted in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by federal agents. According to local officials, the man was legally armed, a firearm was recovered at the scene, and he is believed to have been a lawful gun owner and permit to carry holder.

Many critical facts remain unknown.

We do not yet have an independent account of what initiated the encounter or what triggered the use of deadly force. Despite widespread speculation regarding intent, there has been no evidence produced indicating an intent to harm the officers. We are calling for a full and transparent investigation by both state and federal authorities.

Every peaceable Minnesotan has the right to keep and bear arms—including while attending protests, acting as observers, or exercising their First Amendment rights. These rights do not disappear when someone is lawfully armed, and they must be respected and protected at all times.

And bottom line, they aren't going to stop 'carrying' even if the 2nd were abolished. They'll just be quieter about it and stash away any unregistered firearms and a LOT of them are unregistered, especially pistols and long guns of the semi- and automatic variety. After all "it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6". 🙄

Oh, I don't disagree, but I agree with @AcrossthePond55 that they'd just keep right on carrying.

Despite being American, I'm not a gun fan, but I'd be interested in a breakdown of what percentage of Democrats with guns are properly licensed and have them registered vs what percentage of the other party.

He's such a smug little crybaby prick. He and Vance are two peas in a pod.

It might also be worth a reminder that the deputy attorney general's job is really not to do the Sunday tv rounds. How many people can name deputy attorney generals from other administrations off the top of their head?

Caveat; I always take these things with a grain of salt. A lot of gun owners either won't respond or will lie about guns in the home. People who buy guns for 'self protection' often won't admit to having them.

DH is a Democrat registered gun owner, he wouldn't have told the truth. I therefore lived in a gun owning household. I would have told the truth.

Key facts about Americans and guns

About six-in-ten U.S. adults (58%) favor stricter gun laws. Another 26% say that U.S. gun laws are about right, while 15% favor less strict gun laws.

Thanks very much for that, and it is indeed interesting:

This puts the Whitehouse narrative at odds with the pro gun folk.

Oh quite. Arbitrary enforcement of vague laws is a feature of fascist regimes.

It seems to me that the US is now being made to live the history it avoided learning at school.

All I can say is I am firmly of the opinion that UK gun laws are still far too lax.
