he comes across as a spoilt brat who wants his own way - he's another posh crybaby like harry.

Of course his family manage everything - that's why they have what they have. His new family will do exactly the same given their status.

He's incredibly naive.

Plus who cares about this stuff?

You?

JudgeJ · 20/01/2026 12:02

However once he got to a certain age, Brooklyn could have said no.

Exactly, he could have changed his surname, as Duncan Jones did, and then carved out a professional role for himself in some field based purely on his skills!

I read pointless celeb news as escapism from the fact we are being herding like cattle into war.

Same. Brooklyn's provided us with a welcome distraction from the Trump shitshow.

Well, technically it should be Lady Victoria.

They seem to get it right with Mrs Starmer.

No, that's wrong.

Lady plus first name is the daughter of a marquess, a duke or an earl. It's wrong to talk of Lady Victoria Starmer, she's Lady Starmer.

Lady plus surname would be the others, including wives of men like Beckham who have been knighted (lord knows why in his case).

A lot of people don’t seem to understand how hard it can be to firstly recognise and then escape a controlling family

MyballsareSandy2015 · 20/01/2026 12:07

I’m listening to Katherine Ryan’s podcast on it all … interesting

Always thought dear little Brooklyn was a bit of a hapless, directionless drip, but I 100 per cent believe what he’s said in his statement. His vain mother couldn’t bear the thought of being usurped by the younger, thinner, richer girlfriend so she went nuclear. Good on him for exposing the fakery

She maybe a 'richer girlfriend' but it's her daddy's dollars, not dollars she worked for. Never been a fan of VB but at least she and DB have earned their own money, methods may be distasteful but it isn't their parents' money.

Duncan Jones didn't change his surname, his surname has always been Jones.

People seem to not realise the power imbalance between the parents holding all the financial power in the household and the children who had to live by their rules all their lives. They've been conditioned so that they had to tow the line. How was someone in that kind of environment make their own way? Not easily. It was lucky that Brooklyn got a rich wife, that enabled him to break free.

Also, in the most devious way, D and V didn't encourage any of their children to have a proper education/career because as a result they will stay in the family "business". This is what happens in a controlling parent/child relationship.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/01/2026 12:10

So the dress wasn’t a last minute emergency and it Looks like the dance story isn’t true either-magazine article at the time stating that Brooklyn and Nicola had a dance, then there was a mother and son/daddy and daughter dance as per USA protocol and that the Marc Anthony thing was that Brooklyn had invited his mother up to dance 🤷‍♀️

Another recollections may vary-whilst I think his upbringing and public eye as a child was shit and would undoubtably had an impact, this very public shitting on your parents is all quite distasteful and should have been based on provable facts. When elements of his story are called into question because of previous interviews/sold rights to weddings, then it calls into question his whole narrative IMO. This could have been more powerful without the pettiness and what does he mean that his mother danced on him? a lap dance?

SparklyGlitterballs · 20/01/2026 09:35

It's hard to know the truth as I'm sure both sides are prone to embellishment.

One thing that does make me wonder - Brooklyn and Nicola got married in 2022. If they were that upset about the way his parents behaved in the lead up to and at their wedding, why did he continue to post so much gushing "I love you so much" stuff to his family on his socials in 2023 and 2024?

Going NC with your parents is a fad, it’s like declaring yourself as trans five years ago. It’s a way of getting attention and making yourself feel a bit special. They’ll all grow out of it.

LucyMonth · 20/01/2026 12:15

I did laugh a little at the “bringing women from his past” statement. He was with Nicola when he was 20! How many serious “women from his past” can he have had? Come on!

I do wonder if he would be quite as willing to go NC with his parents if he hadn’t married a billionaire?

You sounds like my abusive mother who would say shit like that as she lacks accountability and empathy.

Loads are there? Because it looks like Baby Beckham lied about the dance and about the wedding dress (although anyone who really believed you can get a bespoke Valentino dress "last minute" needs their head looking at).

I bet NPB had at least 3 wedding dresses for the day - I’ve seen at least two from the day so assume VB’s (slip dress style which she seems to do for every occasion) was for evening reception.

Weirdly I wasn’t expecting to believe BB but I do!!

Nicola is a successful actress in her own right.

David of course was very talented but VB has never had any talent. None.

LOL. Invested much? You call me judgemental and yet judge me as "shallow" on the basis of one post on MN. Are you Nicola Peltz?

I don't know why I care about this at all but I do sense a lot of class prejudice against the Beckhams from middle class mumsnetters, so perhaps it is that. David is a talented footballer which is the only thing I care about in relation to this family. I have loved watching him over the years. He has also done a lot for the UK in terms of international representation, eg the 2012 Olympics. Beyond that I am disgusted with myself for caring about the hissy fit of his over-privileged, weak, and disloyal son. Shame on Brooklyn for airing his dirty laundry in public. End of.

Move on?

As someone who is NC I can tell you with absolute certainty that I didn’t do this to seek attention or to make myself feel “a bit special”. In fact, if anything, it made me feel like an absolute weirdo who couldn’t do something so basic as to maintain a relationship with my abusive parents. I tried to hide the fact that I was NC, such was my embarrassment and shame around the situation. To suggest that someone would alienate themselves from their entire family on the basis of seeking attention is not only very wrong but, frankly, dangerous thinking.

Apart from a handful of baby / toddler photos , you will find very few pics of Duncan Jones with Bowie. He was never paraded around like an accessory.

I imagine it’s been almost impossible for the Beckham children to consider a ‘normal’ life as part of their futures

I thought it really odd when Harper did that appearance and said she wanted to build a brand like her mum did

it was such an odd choice for a girl her age and shows how they are already moulding her. Would have been less odd to day she wants to go into fashion etc

I believe him, really feel for them both. Nicola has had to put up with horrible attacks on her character. And the bits about the wedding are awful, it brings out the worst in people. I remember at the time it was all over the press that VB was snubbed as she wasn’t wearing her wedding dress, very disappointing that it was the other way around. So sad that image managing has made them turn on their child.

But NPB told Vogue that she’d had a year of fittings and design consultations with the team at Valentino to make her wedding dress….
