What are you wearing around the house to keep warm?

I am currently wearing jeans, knee high thermal socks underneath, a thermal long sleeve t shirt under a big jumper and a bobble hat!

It’s a bit chilly when I sit down so I am busy tidying up and cooking. I will be going upstairs to watch tv later as it’s warmer up there and I’ll be keeping the bobble hat on!

Are you cold in your house and what are you wearing?

Long-sleeved top, thick wool turtleneck jumper, flannel PJ bottoms, fleece socks and sheepskin bootie slippers. I've really got into turtlenecks and funnel necks this year and last. Took me that long to twig that when my neck's cold, I'm cold.

Also got a heated throw for the sofa, one of the best things I've ever bought.

FartNRoses · 09/01/2026 20:30

I will never understand individuals who wear jeans in the house full stop, let alone trying to keep warm!!
Give me joggers all day, everyday! Warm and comfy!

Growlybear83 · 09/01/2026 20:34

I’m wearing a thicker cardigan and using a throw when I’m watching TV in the evening but have turned the heating up whilst it’s really cold and have had a convector heater next to me whilst I’ve been working.

Waitingfordoggo · 09/01/2026 20:36

I wear my Oodie, thermal leggings, thick socks and slippers. Have kept the Oodie on all night a couple of times when it was REALLY cold a week or so ago but the temperature has gone up a bit where I am (South East).

Ecrire · 09/01/2026 20:36

Oodie

RessicaJabbit · 09/01/2026 20:37

Ummm a pair of leggings and a t-shirt and a light cardigan

Don't people out the heating on?

ChanceOfALifeLine · 09/01/2026 20:41

Thick leggings (thermal ones if it’s really cold), socks, slippers, tshirt, oodie.

I have an electric blanket for when I’m working from home - no heating in my office at the moment!

Have a meeting in a scout hall tomorrow night. Seriously considering wearing my oodie to it…

modernminimalist · 09/01/2026 20:42

I’ve just bought a heated gilet for work and may never take it off

1457bloom · 09/01/2026 20:43

Woolly hat, cashmere jumper, slippers and sitting on an electric heated pad.

Beanfiend · 09/01/2026 20:43

I have an assortment of house coats to suit all occasions. And I got a pair of house Birkenstocks for Xmas 🎅

hourspassed · 09/01/2026 20:44

Heated socks - little battery packs tucked into a pocket at the top of each sock. Three layers on top, vest, t shirt & jumper and a hot water bottle and leggings.

I bloody hate being cold.😔

Latenightreader · 09/01/2026 20:45

Vest, t-shirt, thick jumper, jeans, thick slipper socks. When sitting I'm in my dressing gown or slanket over the top. Just about to go to bed with the electric blanket on.

TwillTrousers · 09/01/2026 20:46

Either joggers or I have fleece trousers but I can only wear them when it’s really cold. Then a thermal top and a jumper. If I’m sat I have a blanket and sometimes a hot water bottle. I’ve been keeping the heating to 17degrees in the day if it’s cold when DD is in, If I’m alone in the house I do just leave it off.

CactusSwoonedEnding · 09/01/2026 20:46

Multiple layers is better than a big thick layer.

I am wearing a vest, long sleeve top, cardigan and zipup fleece jacket on top. Thin hareem pant/yoga trousers underneath jeans on my legs. Double layer socks

Tovetov · 09/01/2026 20:48

Merino vest, merino 'base layer' top, thin baggy cashmere jumper, shearling gilet, cashmere leggings, cashmere socks under thick knitted woollen socks.
Wool keeps you warm.

ReignOfError · 09/01/2026 20:48

Long sleeved t-shirt, jogging bottoms, thermal socks, slippers and an hoodie. And that’s with the heating on at 18C. I added a heated blanket at various points during the day when the heating was set lower.

BruceAndNosh · 09/01/2026 20:49

I need my ankles and wrists to be warm so I'm wearing Turtle Dove cashmere wrist warmers and Amazon slipper boots

I do put the central heating on, but it's winter so I also adjust my clothing to suit. I don't expect (and can't afford) to keep my house warm enough to waft about in summer clothes all year round!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 09/01/2026 20:54

I live under a heated blanket in the evenings right now but I keep having hot flushes and stripping off!

Pyjamas, t shirt, fleece jumper or oodie depending on temperature. I’ve got fleece lined leggings but don’t really need them in the house.

Cat1504 · 09/01/2026 20:56

Vest top….Pjs ….fleece ….thermal socks …..I’m watching my iPad in bed with the electric blanket on

It would cost a fortune to have rads on all day in my home ( 10 foot high walls….1870s semi) …..we have a log burner in family room / kitchen …..we get free wood from my partners job…..then if I’m wfh in day on my own, I layer up ….all that money I save on heating I spend on holidays instead

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/01/2026 21:00

Cotton leggings, thermal socks & snugglepaws thigh length furry socks. Vest top, jumper or hoodie. Heated throw when I'm still cold.

What are you wearing around the house to keep warm?
pizzaHeart · 09/01/2026 21:08

2 socks , joggers, long sleeve top and fleece but we keep house warm enough as DD has health issues.
I also menopausal and move quite a lot around, I never just sit and watch TV tbh.

Zov · 09/01/2026 21:27

This thread is batshit! Good old Mumsnet, and the competitive 'my house is the coldest' and 'I wear 56 layers, and NEVER put the heating on' posts! 😆
