What are you wearing around the house to keep warm?

I am currently wearing jeans, knee high thermal socks underneath, a thermal long sleeve t shirt under a big jumper and a bobble hat!

It’s a bit chilly when I sit down so I am busy tidying up and cooking. I will be going upstairs to watch tv later as it’s warmer up there and I’ll be keeping the bobble hat on!

Are you cold in your house and what are you wearing?

A woolly hat inside? Blimey. I wear the usual indoor clothes I think, like leggings, a top, jumper or cardi, and burkies - with socks if it’s really cold, but I crank up my heating tbh. Layers are for outside.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/01/2026 23:19

After several years of freezing to death I’ve had enough and decided to suck the bills up. However, I don’t put the heating on higher than 18 and we use Oodies largely (proper branded ones which are so very warm). Tonight I’ve got a big cardi on over my pjs.

PeonyBulb · 09/01/2026 23:29

I have the heating on but tend to wear a camisole, hoodie, joggers and Uggs around the house at the moment.

I usually always wear my Arizona Birkenstocks but Ugg slippers it is at the moment which are usually to hot for my feet but perfect at the moment. I don’t like a cold house and I don’t want my 1830’s house to get damp or mouldy. I have an Oodie which I was wearing but the cold got too much so heating went up.

I’ve just bought a heated gilet for work and may never take it off

Same here - it’s a game changer for wfh in my cold office (no heating)

cupfinalchaos · 09/01/2026 23:41

Ski thermals and nothing else!

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 09/01/2026 23:50

2 shirts one long and one short sleeved. A pair of fleecy trousers and a pair of woollen slipper socks. We also have the fire on so it really isn’t cold here

Blindsidedd · 09/01/2026 23:53

Thick fur lined gloves all day long. Hoodie to bed with hood up - frozen nose stuck out

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 09/01/2026 23:58

Extra-thick jogging bottoms, long sleeve thermal T shirt, a big hooded cardigan which is lined with teddy fleece, two pairs of socks and slipper boots. Heating on around 20 degrees but it feels a lot cooler upstairs than in the living room with the big radiator.

mondaytosunday · 10/01/2026 00:22

It’s warmest downstairs as I don’t like a warm bedroom. I’m wearing trousers, jersey tank and long cardi. I think it must be about 18 as that’s what the thermostat is set at.

Jugendstiel · 10/01/2026 00:31

Thick velvet cords or jeans, a heat tech long sleeved thermal top and a massive roll necked woolen cable knit on top. Fluffy socks and sheepskin slippers

swingingbytheseat · 10/01/2026 00:34

Heated fleece and heated gilet, flat is cold hardly gets above 15

moolag · 10/01/2026 00:35

The thickest pyjamas known to man, a vest and also fluffy socks

DietQueen2023 · 10/01/2026 00:38

Long sleeved top in thick material
fleece jacket
leggings or tracksuit bottoms
socks

OriginalUsername2 · 10/01/2026 00:42

A big fluffy dressing gown, oversized thick pj bottoms over my regular bottoms and slipper boots. It’s good when the spring finally arrives as I instantly look 3 stone lighter when I can finally live without my layers 😆

Funnywonder · 10/01/2026 00:42

Leggings under joggers or jeggings. A thermal vest, then long sleeve top, long thin cardigan and long thick crocheted cardigan. Socks and crocs🤣 The thin cardigan under the thick cardigan has been absolutely brilliant. Like a lining without adding bulk. Crocs are surprisingly warm.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/01/2026 00:45

Is it possible to be warm, completely comfortable, and actually look undumpy, without lots of heating on?

Hollyhobbi · 10/01/2026 00:55

Thermal long sleeved top and fleece, jeans, DVT treatment stockings and wool socks. I feel the cold due to being on blood thinners. I'm very glad we had triple glazing put in a few years ago though. And the house warms up quick enough with gas heating as it isn't a McMansion🤣

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/01/2026 01:02

NE Scotland - we have had nine days of absolutely bonkers snow and low temps. I can’t remember ever having snow like this. The heating is on but we live in an old granite house with high ceilings, and I’m a cold person anyway.

Currently wearing Uggs with lambswool socks, joggers, heat-tech base layer, alpaca knit, alpaca cardigan, and a snood thing. DP has gone to bed and the cat and I are on the sofa with the heated throw watching Hunger Games.

A fleece top from some equestrian range over a thermal vest, fleece lined joggers, two pairs of socks, fur lined boots and a possum/merino hat. I live in a very old, cold and draughty house. It’s 11°C in the kitchen where I’ve just eaten my dinner, though I have a radiator on.

Oh fuck that for a joke! I couldn't cope with a house that was 11° I'd have to get that sorted out, or move. If it's beautiful I'd do everything I could to improve the insulation & stop draughts. But coukd NOT cope with it dropping to 11°

do you have a fireplace? Aga?

christmassytimeagain · 10/01/2026 01:32

Oh do mea favour. I can afford heating and I’ll never compromise on it. Today I had jeans a long sleeved tshirt and socks. Was perfect

Thin merino leggings with a patterned pair of cotton leggings over them

Hand knitted leg warmers

Thin merino socks with a pair of heat holders fluffy socks over them

Sheepskin boots as slippers

Merino/silk blend long sleeve vest top, fleecey jumper dress (made it myself, it's very snuggly and it's got POCKETS), longline wool cardigan that comes down to my calves

House does have central heating but its 500 years old (the house, not the heating system 😂) and draughty as fuck. Plus stone floors downstairs 🥶

Edited

Ssssstone floooorz 🥶

your 'outfit' sounds cosy & lovely.

i'm (long term) not vey well & I need the ambient temperature to be reasonable & for my house & thermostat placement that's 21.5° .so I dread to think what my bills will be but I over pay in the summer! Hopefully that'll cover most of it.

Dogaredabomb · 10/01/2026 01:57

I have a poncho which is so handy and keeps my back warm. I think the key is double socks and sheepskin slippers.

Beekman · 10/01/2026 02:04

I’m in the throes of menopause and apart from my feet (fluffy socks), I haven’t been cold since I was in my early 40s. Just a regular nightie for me

PeonyBulb · 10/01/2026 12:53

I’ve actually turned my heating back down a bit today as it’s not so icy cold anymore and I was too hot last night and this morning. Plus I realised my bedroom curtains were in front of the radiator so all the heat was going behind it and not into the room. Much warmer now in there.

I’m much cooler now at night due to my HRT I used to have the window open at night in the winter. I don’t miss those days but I was overheated last night night having turned the heating up at night last week. Thank goodness for timed thermostat settings
