Something to do with the armed militia I'd say; teenage lads wielding Kalashnikovs and eager to collect American scalps to avenge the removal of the leader.

That and the oil companies not wanting to be there to be run.

Looking at Flightradar now, after the FAA warned that aircraft would be at risk of military activity in VZ airspace, I don't think American airlines are flying to VZ. A couple of commercial flights seem to be going to Colombia. Which might be a frying pan, fire situation for Americans.

Back to add, that Colombia is almost as bad as VZ in terms of ordinary people having guns, never mind the rebel groups like FARC.

The Senate passed it last week, The orange dictator called for the repubs who voted for it to be skinned alive step down/be primaried.

It won't get thro the house of reps, and even if it does it won't make the 2/3rds to make it veto proof.

What a messed up system.

The vote was to move it out of committee and onto the floor for debate. A cloture vote is scheduled for 5.30 on Monday (12 Jan). Cloture is a vote to end debate. If cloture is passed they will debate up to 30 hours and amendments are limited. After the cloture period is over, it goes for a final vote.

Obvs it's a bit more complicated than that and there are rules on the whats and the wherefores. I'd expect a final vote next week 'sometime'. If it passes, it goes on to the House, where the process basically gets repeated. They'll need 3 GOP to cross the aisle to pass if the Dems all vote 'aye'.

And if it passes and Scrotus vetoes it, as he surely will, it will take 2/3 majority in both houses to override.

FWIW I watched live a little over a year ago when a bill dear to my heart went through this. It was 7 days from introduction on the floor to the final vote. And when the cloture period closed in the late afternoon it wasn't until a little after midnight that the final vote occurred.

So we have a ways to go yet. And in the event of passage and veto it's unlikely that they'll have the needed 2/3 to override. But even if they don't have the votes, at least some in his own party will have stood up to that bastard.

This is a genuine question so please don't flame me, but I'm just catching up on recent news(out of synch due to sick toddler) ...I'm guessing Trump doesn't care about the Nobel Peace Prize anymore?!* It seems like his new years resolution has been to set half the world alight?

*(I'm not saying he stood a chance of ever getting one, or should ever get one, I just believe wanted one last year iirc?)

That's another one of those "Holy Fuck" posts we're seeing on official Govt websites.

Some will recognize it for what it is and say "Oh HELL no!!!". Some will recognize it for what it is and say "Fuck yeah!". The rest will have no idea of the similarity. These last are the people we have to reach in any and every way we can.

The official accounts have been getting worse and worse. I’m now at the point where I don’t really need to go to the account to check whether they actually did go far.

That gave to be doing it on purpose at this point. Somebody operating those accounts must have quite the collection of Nazi memorabilia. Given that’s the account of the department of labour I suppose we should be slightly grateful it wasn’t worse.

I'd guess he still cares about it passionately. It's a prize. Obama got one. Now some woman has got one. So he wants one.

He has never in his whole life gone about acquiring anything by earning it or meriting it, only by cajoling, whining, bullying, threatening and stealing. So there's no disconnect in his mind.

He definitely cares - bigly. There is no connection in his feeble mind between his personally ending eleventy billion wars and the bombing, destabilising and resulting suffering in countries he doesn't like. He truly believes he still deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

“If we don’t take Greenland, Russia or China will, and I’m not letting that happen,” he said, despite no obvious interest in taking complete control of the territory from either of the two countries.

Trump also mocked Greenland’s defence saying it consists of “two dog sleds,”facing Russian and Chinese “destroyers and submarines all over the place.”
Asked about the potential impact on Nato, Trump shrugged it off, saying:
“If it affects Nato, it affects Nato. But you know, they need us much more than we need them.”

He also claimed that he “saved” the alliance by pushing for increased defence spending, and said he was working on ending the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

He should be removed as unfit for purpose. Also as a convicted felon and an inciter of treason. As should anyone else elected on his coat-tails.

Honestly, I wonder if he knows how anything works. Every time he opens his mouth, if he is not lying, he is just getting everything totally wrong.

Was he always this insane? I can’t bring myself to search for pre President footage - or even presidential footage tbf. He seems more exaggerated this time though, more disconnected from reality - but I’m not sure if this is some old age barriers dropping or he’s always been this incredibly wild with his lies and words.
