Back on US soil, an American citizen in a peaceful neighbourhood is gunned down by masked agents sent there to make people afraid.

Despicable, wretched people lying, lying, lying - all day, every day, about everything.

If Trump goes
J D Vance gets to clear up his mess
if Vance goes
Mike Johnson picks up the can
next in line is Chuck Grassley
then Marco Rubio

Whatever happens, the next Presidential election is not for a while yet

When Vance becomes POTUS he will select his Veep. Ask Gerald Ford

Diet Coke will be decreed the official drink of the regime.

Perhaps they could reinstate Prohibition…

Indeed, who are you suspecting
and how long would Vance last in that instance ;-)

I imagine Vance would hold an auction. If it's $1 billion to get a seat on the Gaza Board, then Veep is worth at least $10 billion ? Maybe Putin could fill it ? The Veep across the water.

If we are in a modern retelling of "I Claudius" then who and where is Livia ? Now is the time for some mysterious deaths. And remember: you can't dust for vomit.

Well, Vance can choose Trump. And there is no term limit to the vice presidency.

The Constitution says no one can be elected more than twice and there is no bar to being elected vice president after being POTUS. And if Vance should suffer 'an unfortunate accident' Trump could fulfill the rest of Vance's term as POTUS.

Should Vance gain the presidency due to Trump being removed from office, unless he was also 'barred from federal office' which is not automatic in impeachment/removal proceedings, he could appoint Trump as his VP.

If he 'succeeded' or 'was appointed' to the office, he just couldn't be elected at the end of that term.

Of course either of the above scenarios is highly unlikely.

I hope.

I'm not wasting time with the constitution.

Also the only way Trump is leaving the Whitehouse is Stalin style.

And there is something contradictory about "Trump getting more ill by the hour" and "Trump will be POTUS in 2028". Pick a side.

@SerendipityJane
Would Trump be eligible as VP if he has just been 25thed out of the top job ?

I cannot tell from a quick read of rules that never envisaged the current insanity

I'm not @SerendipityJane , but the short answer is 'it sorta depends'.

The 25th does not bar from office if used for temporary transfer of power, usually in the event of illness or incapacitation. Theoretically Trump could be 25th'd on his own initiative or by the cabinet and then regain the office 'upon recovery'. This has voluntarily happened in the past, IIRC due to a POTUS undergoing anesthesia and was for just a few hours.

Congress could, however, invoke it for removal from office and bar him from regaining it. This has never happened.

I think I have already said that unless and until I see evidence that this "constitution" thingy can play a part in preventing the slide to Armageddon, it remains a quaint folk tale to me.

If your faith is justified, you can have the satisfaction of gloating as heartlessly as you like.

If my lack of faith is justified, we won't be around for the reverse.

PerkingFaintly · 20/01/2026 18:31

Current events mean I keep thinking of the sinking of the French Fleet in 1940.

France had fallen and was under the control of the Nazis; the UK was fighting on against facism and could not afford to allow the French ships to be used against it.

There was a well-discussed way out: the French fleet could have sailed to the French West Indies to keep it safely out of the way and neutral. But for various inadequate reasons this didn't happen, and instead the French navy refused to budge from the Mediterranean.

The Royal Navy attacked and sank much of the fleet, with the loss of many lives. The two navies had been working together evacuating Dunkirk just weeks before.

So tragic. Hitler must have been laughing in glee.

Igotjelly · 20/01/2026 18:36

The orange oaf will be joining bullshit Barbie at her White House briefing this evening.

PerkingFaintly · 20/01/2026 18:36

Of course now it's Putin laughing in glee at setting friend against friend.

Worse than usual.
He's really, really lost it.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 20/01/2026 18:57

Is anyone else watching?

Igotjelly · 20/01/2026 18:59

I am, what the fuck is he on about. It’s not even coherent sentences.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 20/01/2026 19:00

It's really time to take him away and medicate him. This is horrific. How can they let this go on?

Igotjelly · 20/01/2026 19:02

He’s really struggling to breathe too by the sounds of things. He sounds awful.
