I'm surprised at Hungary's stance ... said no one ever.

The future of Greenland is not an issue for the European Union, Hungary has said, signalling that it will not support a joint EU statement against Donald Trump.
"We regard this as a bilateral issue that can be resolved via talks between the two parties...I don't think it is an EU issue," Hungarian foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said.

So far in 2026, my thoughts are running to two things.

a. How do we recognise a tipping point, or can this only be done retrospectively?

b. Calling out the 'consider both sides' argument for the illogical, even nonsensical position it can sometimes be. Not all opinions/information/positions have equal merit or are even worthy of consideration. Sometimes something is just plain wrong and I don't need a Venn diagram to help me make that judgement.

Russian state news has welcomed Turnip's takeover of Greenland according to BBC 10pm news. The geographics in the same news showing the Arctic circle omitted Alaska, the Chukchi peninsula (Russia) and the Bering Strait.

I remember the Bering Strait being a contentious issue back in the day. At its narrowest the strait is 36 miles.

Russia and the US want control of the Arctic.

The US president wrote: "Shockingly, our “brilliant” NATO Ally, the United Kingdom, is currently planning to give away the Island of Diego Garcia, the site of a vital U.S. Military Base, to Mauritius, and to do so FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER."
He is referring to the UK's decision to hand the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, which includes the island of Diego Garcia and its UK-US military base.
Under the signed deal, the site of the base will be leased back to the UK for 99 years.

He is clearly not an ally, Europe should be treating him as an enemy.

Expect him to invade there next.

Yup. Even though the military base there is not affected at all, as the UK will now be paying rent to Mauritius , and let the US continue to use it rent free.

I know we say this every time, but what the hell does he need to do before Congress step in?! We keep being told that loads of Republicans are unhappy with his behaviour, I bet enough of them to actually do something about it but they’re all a bunch of spineless cowards.

To throw a spanner in the works. How about we rename Diego Garcia to Diego Maradona , and give it to Argentina ? That might get things kicking off between the USA and Argentina.

The other Chagos Islands go to Mauritius as planned.

Maybe he mispronounces Chagos to Shaggers Island and it takes him back...🤔

So far this morning I’ve read Trump has - threatened 200% tariffs on French wine and champagne, forgotten he approved the Chagos deal, published private messages from Macron and posted pictures of putting US flag on Greenland and Canada.

The UK right wing is very attached to Chagos, someone has whispered in his ear.
