Back on US soil, an American citizen in a peaceful neighbourhood is gunned down by masked agents sent there to make people afraid.

Despicable, wretched people lying, lying, lying - all day, every day, about everything.

Anyone placing bets on TACO Tuesday? The WEF is going to be very interesting next week otherwise!

Wouldn’t it be fun to see the US delegation snubbed at every opportunity - a few cancelled hotel rooms, cars not turning up on time, empty auditoriums for any speeches, etc.

Blackmail is their M.O. in everything.

It was an aside, caught on camera, that said a lot about the uneasy business of conducting journalism today.

Moments after President Trump finished taping a 13-minute interview on Tuesday with the “CBS Evening News” anchor Tony Dokoupil in Michigan, Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, approached Mr. Dokoupil and his colleagues to convey a message from the president.

“He said, ‘Make sure you guys don’t cut the tape, make sure the interview is out in full,’” Ms. Leavitt said in an even tone, according to a recording of the exchange obtained by The New York Times.

“Yeah, we’re doing it, yeah,” Mr. Dokoupil responded.
Ms. Leavitt replied: “He said, ‘If it’s not out in full, we’ll sue your ass off.’”

Unedited interviews don't generally do him any favours. I haven't watched this one, though, and don't plan to, so maybe it was a feat of brilliance.

I am reminded of that Yes Minister episode where Hacker does a bad interview, and Sir Humphrey needs to get it scrubbed.

Nah. That won't happen - that means transatlantic flights and jet lag for the teams.
Either include Brazil or just increase the number of matches at Canadian or Mexican venues.

Look at the list of teams, there's more than just Iran that may have an ICE-y reception.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/01/2026 13:36

They are already banning players from places they don't like, I thought.

DuncinToffee · 18/01/2026 13:39

The joint statement just published by European leaders reads like something they would say to Russia about Ukraine: "we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind." https://www.government.se/statements/2026/01/statement-by-denmark-finland-france-germany-the-netherlands-norway-sweden-and-the-united-kingdom/

Indeed. And as I type this I am thinking of that film of the 1936 Olympics, the Austrian corporal showing displeasure at Jessie Owens winning.

But knowing the ohh great orange one, I suspect he will be more like a 9 year old playing Monopoly:

" NOT FAIR! This corrupt "so called" sport is infested with RADICAL left wokeism, and I DEMAND the rules are changed. FIFA President Infantino ( Great guy, he gave me a PEACE MEDAL better than the NOBEL) AGREES This game is SUSPENDED for TWO WEEKS, at which time NEW RULES will be ready. Thank you for your attention in this matter."

Goodness me.

He always makes it about money. Payable to him no doubt.

I hope Tony has a spare billion to chip in. I can't see the Brit taxpayer being happy paying that tossers "membership fee".

US 'wants countries to pay $1bn to stay on Gaza peace board' | World News | Sky News

I don’t even understand why you have to pay to be on a board that ultimately benefits your country and others - the orange guy makes my brain hurt every day.

logicisall · 18/01/2026 14:14

Does this mean that the US has to pay $1B for each American on the board?

How about the supporters.

Worth reminding ourselves that by definition the people who are intending to travel to watch the games live are the more wealthy in the countries they come from.

More than 200,000 Danish citizens have signed a petition to buy California as a response to Trump’s attempt to take Greenland.

They say they will provide Californians with “rule of law, universal health care, fact-based politics, and a lifetime supply of Danish pastries.”

Ooooh! I can get behind this as long as we can keep Gavin as our governor.

They can move the state capital to Solvang!!!

Personally, I have never felt more enthusiastic about California seceding from the Union as I do now. And I'd bet we'd have a lot of countries lined up be our allies if we did. Wonder if the EU would let us use the Euro as our national currency, at least temporarily.

PS there's no actual mechanism for a state to secede.

From a CNN article on the US offering Venezuelan oil for sale:

"The details about the first oil sale were unclear on Wednesday, but in a statement, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said that “President Trump’s team is facilitating positive, ongoing discussions with oil companies that are ready and willing to make unprecedented investments to restore Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.” On Wednesday, Reuters reported that Venezuelan crude oil was being offered at a discount to traders compared to competing oil from other countries, such as Canada."

Sounds to me as if no one wants to buy it. The 'meeting' that was held with the major US oil companies resulted in "We're not interested" so now he's offering it at a discount on the open market. Another 'dud deal' of Trump's (like his numerous condos and resort proposals) that in the business world would result in another abandoned project, loss to investors, and a bankruptcy whilst he walks away pocketing money. He's nothing but a fucking one man Ponzi scheme.

I don't think a lack of legalities has ever stopped the Trump administration in the past. I would love Denmark to float this as a proposal.

RedTagAlan · 18/01/2026 17:10

@AcrossthePond55

He could sell it to the original buyers I suppose :-)

Yet again, he shows his total ignorance.

An oil refiner is not going to re-configure their refinery / ramp up production/ change schedules just for a couple of tankers of oil. They need steady state production to be cost effective. They will have supply contracts to feed them. Storage costs money. And the oil price has to be right. The demand for the refined product needs to be there, together with the distribution system for that.

He is like a highway robber, trying to flog a truck of nicked booze to pubs.

It was the slave states "seceding" that started the civil war. Which could have gotten very nasty.

Worth noting that the EU had it's Article 50 that enabled the UK to secede.

I mean Trump is that guy who managed to put his casinos into bankruptcy - quite the feat I understand.
I’m always surprised he’s touted as a good businessman with his track record of bankruptcies and family bailouts.
Probably a great grifter though.
