Asking if royal-related gift would be good when coming to the UK?

I have recently moved to England to be with my British boyfriend from Spain.

What would be the best way, in your opinion, to ingratiate myself with my new British neighbours or with my husband’s British family?

It is well-known that the British love their royals so should I get some pictures of the late Queen Elizabeth (as I know she was adored by the British) or maybe Princess Diana and put them on some cupcakes as a gift? Do you think they’d appreciate this?

I haven’t talked much to my boyfriend about his opinions on politics or royalty but I thought it was only natural as a Brit he’d love them like different country’s have their icons.

Or, would it be more appropriate if I bought a frame with a picture of the late Queen Elizabeth like I’ve seen some British people have in their houses as an arrival gift? Maybe, one with the Late Queen and her corgis or one of her from her younger years since it’d be more sentimental to a British person?

No. Unless it would be a tongue in cheek joke, no. I’d find it hilarious but that’s presumably not the reaction you’re after 🤣

a bottle of Rioja and some good chorizo on the other hand…

BIWI · 08/01/2026 12:09

No. Don’t do it. Just introduce yourself and be pleasant, courteous and interested in them.

That’s if this is serious, of course

Overtheatlantic · 08/01/2026 12:10

Please don’t do either of these things and don’t try to ingratiate yourself with his family. Be authentic and your genuine self.

Personally I don’t think anything related to royalty is a good idea - they may not be pro royal for a start and also royal themed gifts are common here. For your in laws I’d say a nice bouquet of flowers and bring some traditional Spanish treats from home for them. Flowers from Marks and Spencer or Waitrose at pretty well received I think, no need for a floral arrangement . No need to give gifts to neighbours- that would be strange.

Parcell · 08/01/2026 12:10

No, people would think you insane. If you are coming from Spain maybe some traditional gift - or Spanish food or wine for the family. There is no need to buy for neighbours.

EmpressaurusKitty · 08/01/2026 12:10

A framed picture of Victoria Wood would be better. If you can sing, you could even serenade them with The Ballad of Barry & Freda.

SheilaFentiman · 08/01/2026 12:11

You again, OP?

Needmorelego · 08/01/2026 12:11

No most Brits aren't actually as interested in the Royal Family as the media makes out.

MirrorMirror1247 · 08/01/2026 12:12

You only have to look at a few threads about the royals on here to know that a lot of British people seem to hate them. I'm not one of them, but I'd find it a bit weird to be presented with cakes with the faces of deceased royals on them.

Wine and/or nice chocolates is the way to go if you're invited anywhere. Don't worry about giving your neighbours gifts, there's no need for that.

Taweofterror · 08/01/2026 12:13

😂

Perhaps something authentically Spanish instead? Like a flamenco costume or a bull fighting cape?

itsthetea · 08/01/2026 12:14

No the royal family is mostly tolerated , despised by many and only lusted after by a small minority

it is well known that the royal family is sold as a tourist pull which must be why you have such strange notions

AutumnTheCrow · 08/01/2026 12:14

Aw right, Liam? How’s it going down there in Cornwall - is the wind picking up yet? Best batten down the hatches.

Clutterbug2026 · 08/01/2026 12:14

This poster again! New year is a good time to find a new hobby.

DrowningInThings · 08/01/2026 12:14

No, that would be weird! Bring something local to you.

SheilaFentiman · 08/01/2026 12:15

And your English is very good for one so Spanish.

Why not hie back to the theme of one of your previous posts and get a map of the British Empire as it was in Victorian times?

Perrylobster · 08/01/2026 12:17

Definitely! They’d love it. You could even get a cake made with the Queen, Queen mum, Diana and the corgis made out of fondant icing 👍 🇬🇧

Bobiverse · 08/01/2026 12:18

😂 This is a joke, right? No normal person wants any of that. Jeez, how embarrassing.

If your boyfriend was French, would you buy his family a tatty Eiffel Tower statue from a tourist gift shop? 😂

Rosamutabilis · 08/01/2026 12:18

Surely if you've got a British boyfriend he would tell you that giving gifts like that to his family would make you appear to be some type of lunatic.

Just give them some nice flowers or chocolates or some Spanish wine.

Why would you be bringing presents for his neighbours too? That seems equally bonkers. Just say hello if you see them.

Ah ,you again
Yes i think you need to theme your whole house around the royal family ,and maybe paint thecl outside red ,white and blue.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2026 12:20

Great idea
Dress as The late Queen and pop round with Union Jack cupcakes

momahoho1 · 08/01/2026 12:22

Is this a joke? You can’t beat home baked goods with any culture, stick to food always, can’t be beaten. If you are invited to dinner for instance, offer to bring a dessert that’s Spanish, they will love that

Is OP a troll or just someone who regularly posts batshit threads about buying royal paraphernalia for people?

They regularly post about the " great love " the Brits apparently have for the Monarchy.
