We're sitting under duvets to give the heating a break!

20 degrees and very toasty.

DanceMumTaxi · 05/01/2026 21:40

Thermostat is set at 20.5 so presume it’s around that, but I was still cold. Sat watching telly with a heated throw over me. Lovely and warm now.

CobraChicken · 05/01/2026 21:40

22°C (-12°C outside at the moment.)

Statsquestion1 · 05/01/2026 21:42

My bedroom thermostat is on about 16.5, not gonna lie I’m in shorts and a string vest. The heating has just come on, it’s 0degrees outside.

SauvignonBlanche · 05/01/2026 21:50

20.5 here but have got the fire on in the lounge.
Heating will be off overnight but have hot water bottle in my bed already.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 05/01/2026 22:00

I've got no idea. What temp does a house get when no heating is on? I know it was -1 here this morning.

I live alone, I have MS and I'm hot all the time. So it's off.

Autumnlife · 05/01/2026 22:05

Our heating is set at 19 and it’s comfortable we don’t have the heating on overnight because it’s feels stifling. It drops to about 14 in the two rooms we’ve not put new windows in overnight but the soon heat back up once we stick the heating on.

TwooooDoooozenRoses · 05/01/2026 22:06

20, or thereabouts. It’s lovely and cosy. I’ve never lived in a house with proper central heating before so this is bloody amazing 😅

ReadingSoManyThreads · 05/01/2026 22:09

19.5oC and I'm sat here in just a sleeveless vest and bloody roasting!

ANGIEPANGY77 · 05/01/2026 22:37

American here. Seventy-two degrees Fahrenheit.

NormasArse · 05/01/2026 22:41

We’re having heating wars because I get too hot and DH is always cold. He’s having the heating on at night at the moment, so I’ve decamped to a downstairs bedroom with the window open.

He has it in 19 until bedtime- then 16. Our house is extremely well insulated though.

ManyPigeons · 05/01/2026 22:44

9C 🙃 We bought the place last year and the heating system just does nothing. £160 a month in gas and electric and I can see my breath. Fuming.

Completely depends on your house’s insulation, energy efficiency, building materials, period… you have to check the thermostat.

SparklingCrow · 05/01/2026 21:00

Good grief, @LadyGreySpillsTheTea - how is everyone managing? Do you have any possible alternatives available like paraffin heaters?

Nope, we have no alternative heating (oil central heating, but controlled by an electric pump) - nothing like this has ever happened before. We‘re comparatively lucky - I belong to a sports club so got a shower there today, and a local coworking space has let me have a desk for a few days so I can work, and I can charge devices there (hence connectivity now). We got a flask of hot water from a restaurant tonight too. We have enough candles and batteries for torches. Everyone is pulling together. But there are 100,000 people affected by this, a lot of them senior citizens living alone, people will probably die if I’m being honest. It’s more than a little grim. A very shitty protest / act of terrorism by some idiotic anarchists who really didn’t think things through properly.

WaitingOnSpring26 · 05/01/2026 22:52

22 in the kitchen, our house is very old, we have oil fired heating as well as log burners. We don’t have the heating on in our bedroom as I get too hot. The upstairs landing is 20, it was -8 when I was out at the bins earlier.

Whu · 05/01/2026 22:57

It’s currently 19, have got it on 18 during the day and 20 in the evening while it’s so cold and off at night (well it kicks in at 14 but never drops that low).
It’s -6 outside at the moment.

InsolentAnnie · 05/01/2026 23:04

Between 11 and 14 degrees, depending on the room. It was 10 degrees pretty much everywhere when I got in from work. Do I win? 😁

None of us are currently bothered though because we have thick oversized hoodies that we live in throughout winter, the kids have extra snuggly blankets on their beds, and I got the BEST EVER thick blanket in the sales which is very toasty.

Oh wow, I think I know where you are. It sounds bloody awful. I don’t know how I’d manage something like that as I have limited mobility. Terrible own goal for the ‘activists’.

Ncchange · 06/01/2026 00:50

20 during the day and 17 overnight. Me and dog have a heated fleece for bedtime!

SheSpeaks · 06/01/2026 00:53

It’s -11 outside and thankfully +10 inside right now although it did get down to 8 this morning and as high as 15 this evening when we had the fire on! I am very careful not to let it get to 5 as we’ve had burst pipe problems at that temperature before.

mondaytosunday · 06/01/2026 00:55

Downstairs about 18, that’s what the thermostat is set at. Upstairs I don’t have the heat on in my bedroom so more like 14 ( the door to the hall is always open so it’s never freezing). That’s good I like a cold bedroom.

IllMetByMoonlight · 06/01/2026 01:10

11°C. I'm in bed with a hat, fleecy trousers, fuzzy socks, a thermal top and a wooly sweater. It's getting warmer tomorrow, apparently. DC sleeping in Oodies under double duvets. Boiler getting sorted on Saturday.
But even then, we don't usually let it go above 18°C.

itsybitsyteenytot · 06/01/2026 08:00

Our bedroom is 12 degree. The heating will come on in a minute.

lljkk · 06/01/2026 10:36

this thread is making me feel quite robust!! Heating was set to 11 overnight & I only just crawled out of bed to increase it to 18.5. I would set heating higher overnight but it wakes me up when it comes on, and I don't go back to sleep easily. Temp here is now about 12 (and rising). I don't like it but I can cope, definitely not miserable. lol.

Belladog1 · 06/01/2026 10:44

13.5 degrees at the moment. The heating comes on for an hour around 1pm and then again at 5.20pm. Currently under a blanket with the dog.
