I'm putting forward Fruit teas.
Some of the combinations sound so promising and positively delicious.

In reality, they taste what I imagine drinking pot pourri to be like.

Our slow gin tastes wonderful

Isn't it sloe gin?

tobee · 31/12/2025 21:55

Yes to BBQs! They're just too hard work and stressful; the fire is to flamey to cook anything, it takes ages to get hot and then cools too quickly. Then you have to clean up the fuckers. Unless disposable when they are never big enough. Finally the BBQ is hot enough to use and then everyone is already stiffed full of poorly cooked ashy items.

I love other people cooking me a BBQ though!

Hot chocolate - just too sickly and watery.

BUT I love goat's cheese - it's smelling of goat is the best bit!!

bath bombs. end up covered is a gloopy film with a bout of cystitis 😬

Yes! Any time I’ve used a bath bomb, I just lay there surrounded by this slimy, horrible looking water. Then I get out feeling like I need a shower to rinse it off.
Horrid things.

Drinking ANY alcohol - looks beautiful on the supermarket shelf, has the most enticing label - you convince yourself you deserve the ridiculous price tag - tastes a bit meh and instant regret. Then a migraine for 12 hours.

Also, most ready meals, most takeaways, most family days out, all holidays (planning is the best bit), all restaurant meals not including the first 4 forkfuls, all purchased cakes/brownies, all purchased coffees/lattes.

I literally gagged when I read that.

Goats cheese. Tastes like a goat smells.

Same as goat's milk. My DGD is lactose intolerant, and when she was about 2 years old her DM was recommended to try her with goat's milk as it lower in lactose. I will always remember her reaction. She took a couple of sips of it,then spat it straight back out, retching in the process. Me and her mum had a taste of it and agreed that it was foul.

Niche but co-op’s truly irresistible sticky toffee pudding. I was so disappointed.

How is something sold in Morrisons niche?

For me it's salmon, I want to like it as I enjoy most fish, but I'm always left disappointed.

Also, road trips. Having to stop at doggy service station loos or wild peeing with piss running down your legs. Never again.

Eating out - such a waste of money and not what you would want to eat at home.

But.... isn't that point of eating out? Eating stuff you wouldn't eat at home? Such a strange take to me

Days at the beach are generally bad because of either no toilets. Or toilets that you need years of therapy after visiting.

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 31/12/2025 23:36

Love goats cheese amd milk.

Fermented anything on the other hand....

tobee · 31/12/2025 23:38

Sorry about that @Calliopespa

It's kind of the central feature of the thread.

What were you actually expecting when you a) opened and the b) read a thread entitled "Things that sound nice but actually aren't"

Did you think it was going to be full of resounding endorsements...?

Its expected contents are arguably more clearly labeled than fruity teas

Miaminmoo · 01/01/2026 02:22

All fruit teas taste like dishwater. The End.

X123x321X · 01/01/2026 02:24

Love goats cheese and milk - and yoghurt

I have really tried with fermented foods as it's supposed to be really healthy but it always tastes rank - even made my own fermented vegetables once Envy

Sorry @choc1cheese1 !

I think this thread itself comes under

Items from a bakery. Bakeries and supermarket bakeries often smell amazing but I cant think of a single item that tastes as good as that smell

Agree about fruit teas, they smell really nice and taste of nothing

Same with toast, just tasted wrong.

Bubble tea.

To be fair, bubble tea doesn't even sound nice. It certainly doesn't look nice.
I don't think I need a drink with tapioca balls in it. Bleurgh.

I like goat’s cheese as it just tastes like Philadelphia to me, but goat’s butter and milk are disgusting. They taste sour and rancid like gone off cow milk versions.

Campfires
Scatter cushions
Frosty morning walk

I love all of these things 😂I find a day off like someone said above so nice to think about but rarely delivers - a cup of coffee out can be just as satisfying without the hope and expectation!!

blunderbuss12 · 01/01/2026 09:40

Can't find it again but whoever suggested 'millionaires shortbread' must win surely!
