Things that sound nice but actually aren't

I'm putting forward Fruit teas.
Some of the combinations sound so promising and positively delicious.

In reality, they taste what I imagine drinking pot pourri to be like.

Raclette

Got to agree with yoga- the whole time I kept thinking "Why is it so SLOWWWW?" Plus the teacher had one of those annoying 'mindfulness' type voices- I guess it was supposed to be soothing but I found the whole thing irritating.

Also- camping. I love tents. I love the idea of camping. There's a woman I follow on FB who goes off solo wild camping and it looks amazing and I watch the reels and think "Wow. I'd love to do that." Except- I need a whole carful of camping gear to be comfortable at night. I hate peeing outside. I hate sitting around outside in the dark on an uncomfortable chair or worse- a log or rock or whatever. Plus, frankly some of the locations, while beautiful, look bloody spooky and I'd be a scaredy-cat. So probably not as nice I think it would be.

Fiona in the wild!! I watch her videos too.
She makes it look so fun, she even camps in the winter!!

Sex in the bath , squeaky and weirdly dry given the surroundings, also tidal waves and The Noise !

And sharing a bath - who gets the tap (unless it's in the middle)

dynamiccactus · 30/12/2025 20:28

Agree with camping. Although I don't think it sounds nice either.

And picnics, you just get bothered by off-lead dogs and insects and sometimes birds.

tubingmascara · 30/12/2025 20:29

Going to central London to see the christmas lights

Dollybantree · 30/12/2025 20:29

Puppies - they grow into dogs and are absolute pains in the arse.

Aperol spritz - sounds and looks lovely and refreshing, literally tastes like bile.

Inviting your IL’s/dp’s for Christmas - the thought of it is better than the reality, which becomes horribly apparent after about 30mins of everyone being in the same room.

Campfires
Scatter cushions
Frosty morning walk

What!? All of those things are an absolute joy to me

Paris.

Noooo Paris is gorgeous. What about it don't you like?

For me, it's going to go/see some odd seasonal thing, like lavender fields or pumpkin patches. You travel for ages and then there's a field you look at for 20 seconds and...that's it.

Niche but co-op’s truly irresistible sticky toffee pudding. I was so disappointed.

And their cookie dough and brownie tray... their desserts are generally not nice

Banditbiscuits · 30/12/2025 20:36

Salmon/ 99% of sea food except battered cod - some meal options look good but it stinks and tastes like the ocean

Coffee - so many different ways to have it and yet it tastes foul

Another one for fruit teas - tastes nothing like flavours advertised

Steak - not for me - too tough and chewy

Celery...

Wheretogowhen · 30/12/2025 20:37

Parties with loads of people you don't know.

JacknDiane · 30/12/2025 20:39

M&S meals always looks really tasty and appetising on the box but they usually taste just a bit better than the box.

Pennyfan · 30/12/2025 20:39

Beef Wellington. Just a pasty. What a waste of fillet steak.

Steak isn't tough or chewy if it's cooked properly!

Coffee, although I know lots will disagree. Love the smell but hate the taste.

I'm with you on coffee but also like the taste but find the extra nervousness that accompanies it is unhelpful. Low caffeine tolerance.

Lifeisapeach · 30/12/2025 20:45

Staycations with lots of families and kids under one roof !

Just no!

there’s always a messy one, a lazy arse, cheeky kids and an incredibly loud person that interrupts everyone’s stories !

FlibbertyGibbitt · 30/12/2025 20:46

Chocolate Brownies. Sound lovely but in reality just crap.

The steak and pastry I can cope with… but that weird mushroom paste round it…. Why?

Cant speak for the PP but its a dump! The only good thing about it is the Louvre.

mellicauli · 30/12/2025 20:48

The Ideal Home Exhibition - words cannot express how crowded noisy and boring it is. All that tat. So inconvenient to get to.
Going out on a sunny Bank Holiday - Stuck in traffic for hours. Always too hot, crowded and expensive. Relaxing in the garden is the winner's formula. Maximise hours in the sun
I also agree about Yoga..especially at work in some soulless meeting room with colleagues in lycra.. the pressure of fart suppression is too much for the human frame to bear

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/12/2025 20:51

One night camping is all it takes to remind oneself why the majority of human civilization has been a race to get as far away from the outdoors as possible!

The area around the Louvre isn't very pretty but paris is an absolute picturebook (and far less bombed out than say, London, so huge amount ofold stunning buildings) outside the main drag. I can't quite get the hate?

Also thought of another one - airport lounges. Sounds luxurious, always a disappointment

LeopardPrintEverything · 30/12/2025 20:54

Thehorticuluralhussie · 30/12/2025 17:04

Have to agree with PPs about hot tubs - who wants to sit in an unpleasant consommé of other people's dead skin cells and bodily fluids? Many years ago my sister acquired an infection from one and referred to it as Trench Minge, a phrase that lives on in our family's history.

😂😂👏🏼👏🏼 “Trench Minge”

Neveranynamesleft · 30/12/2025 20:56

Cocktails. Do not get the appeal for chucking a load of different alcohol in a glass. And being charged the earth for it.

Obimumkinobi · 30/12/2025 20:57

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2025 15:52

Cakes
I like the concept but most of them are just disappointing

The most disappointing cake of all to eat out is chocolate - just overly sweet, waxy shite!

I'm also adding desserts in most restaurants. Fab main course often followed by a soggy piece of "Sara Lee" with a squirt of cream, for the best part of a tenner.
