Things that sound nice but actually aren't

I'm putting forward Fruit teas.
Some of the combinations sound so promising and positively delicious.

In reality, they taste what I imagine drinking pot pourri to be like.

I read the thread title in Trending and thought, "Fruit teas!" before opening it. 😂

Salted caramel lattes

Objection, you honour - they sound gloopy and far too sweet.

Breadcat24 · 30/12/2025 18:25

spa days- get a bit boring

3within3 · 30/12/2025 18:26

Mindfulness podcasts - annoying

Mini golf - I hate this SO much. Total irrational hatred since I was a child. No dark trauma associated with it, I just loath it.

Agree with the comments about sour dough and goats cheese. Would add cottage cheese. I work in health care so you can make your own deductions as to why it offends me……….

Mini golf is awful! I detest it more than I could ever articulate!

Also, most cheesecakes. I crave a good cheesecake. It doesn't exist!

they are mostly sugary imposters

a baked cheese cake uses curd cheese and isn't sweet

The antidote to this is a home made one with lots of unprocessed cream cheese good vanilla and slow bake

Beaches - sand in everything including any food. No shade when its hot. Nowhere to shelter if its wet or windy. Crowded in the summer. Seaweed. Hard to swim if its shallow or dangerous to swim if theres a rip.

Lastgig · 30/12/2025 18:36

Fruit teas
Ferro chocolates
Fluffy throws (platic fibres give me a rash)
Any spiced drink
Spa days are my pet hate and i work in beauty!
Ditto hair drying/ head massage.
Goats cheese stinks but I try
Toffee yoghurt (no business in a health food)
Memo foam insoles (they make me hot)
Memory foam mattresses.

Every Baileys flavour that isn’t original Baileys.

Goats cheese. Tastes like a goat smells.

I generally find this, it's awful.

However, we were treated to a lunch in a michelin-starred restaurant and it was part of the tasting menu. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dreading that bit, but it was delicious. Not goaty at all!

As for my addition - I find most ready-made meals/desserts taste of disappointment.

Christmas

PistachioTiramisu · 30/12/2025 18:46

Eating out - such a waste of money and not what you would want to eat at home.

5128gap · 30/12/2025 18:51

A trip to London for a West End show. Stressful journey. Uncomfortable seat, with poor view unless paying top price. Poor acoustics, boiling hot or freezing cold and not enough toilets. Give me a regional production in a comfy modern theatre or a live stream in a cinema where I get to see the actors faces anyday.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 30/12/2025 18:51

I love everything listed on here... give me a hot bath, glass of wine (maybe mulled), fruit tea, cakes, olives, goats cheese all after a long, cold walk while I plan my lovely hot beach holiday. YES!

BreatheAndFocus · 30/12/2025 18:52

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream - cool sounding flavours but all taste disgustingly sweet and over-processed.

Morrison’s The Best Range - more a punishment than a treat as everything I’ve tasted has tasted cheap and worse than other stores’ budget ranges.

Ten Pin Bowling - yucky shoes, boring, and sticky balls (of the bowling kind 😛)

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 30/12/2025 18:52

I do hate going the hairdressers. £200, 3 hours and I hate it...

Blauehortensie · 30/12/2025 18:54

Sound baths - wanted to tear my hair out with boredom after five minutes!

Yes!!

UnhappyHobbit · 30/12/2025 18:55

Rhubarb. I love the smell of rhubarb but the taste is a huge disappointment

Musicmummy63 · 30/12/2025 18:57

Swimming in the sea. Freezing at home, slightly less cold on holiday, and in the Caribbean where it's warm, full of jelly fish!
BBQ's - food usually really disappointing.

I get the red wine headache too. Got laughed at for years by people assuming I meant a hangover, but its not! Within half and hour of a very small glass of red my head is banging. There is a reason for it but I forget what it is. I used to be able to drink it but the head aches started when I turned 40. I dont bother even trying now.

Tannings or sulphites... one is more in red, one more in whites. But I can't remember as I have drunk half a bottle of rosé...

I agree with Panettone. What even is it?

I’ve only ever had one - it was a present, in a fancy tin.
It was so dry, nearly all of it ended up on the bird table. I dare say it could have made a reasonable bread and butter pudding, though - if I’d thought of that.

Funnily enough, I am halfway through a bottle of rose, cheers!!

Just done a bit of googling and it seems that the jury is out on the why, but it seems that there are more sulphites in white so probably not that. I always thought it was down to tanin...but who knows? All I do know is that it bastard well hurts!

Oh, I was listening to a bit about panettone in a podcast recently.
Apparently traditionally made panettone is very different to what we buy in shops here but traditional panettone has such a high butter content and time and labour intensive process to make you can’t mass produce it, so we get a sad, dry imitation apparently.
Made me really want to try a proper one.

Pub Restaurants. Most of them where I live seem to have stopped doing anything other than massively overpriced burgers in brioche buns.

Massages just give me the rage because on the rare occasions I’ve had one, I seem to get the masseuse with the lightest touch imaginable and I end up more stressed.

Brioche buns are all wrong for burgers anyway! They’re sweet!
