What’s your post-Christmas house like?

Is the tree down? Are the kids presents still all over your living room? Are there any corners with discarded wrapping paper still in them? How are the washing/dishes piles looking?

The leftover turkey should be gone tonight, then it’s back to work on Monday for me.

Tree still up, not taking it down until after new year. Living room floor scattered with dog toys old and new, apart from that pretty tidy really, there's only two of us plus dog so very easy to manage. I don't mind the toys being left lying around because he's enjoying them, I love to see that & I play along too of course 😍

PersephonePomegranate · 28/12/2025 10:24

The tree is still up and wont come down until 5th Jan. The kitchen is clean and tidy but the living room has toys in one corner that are yet to played with (board games, lego set etc) and the dining room also has a half finished craft activity on the table. All new clothes clothes , books toiletries have been put away.

I normally find things left out stressful, but seem to be pretty chilled about it so far!

WonsWoo · 28/12/2025 10:52

Mine is looking embarrassingly shoddy considering there has only been DH and I here for the last 4 days 🫣

The dishes aren’t too bad but we need to put on a dishwasher load. Presents are still out. DH has commandeered the kitchen table for his new jigsaw and there are 4 LEGO builds we need to find a home for.

The only food we have left is cheese and Christmas pudding.

It could be worse. DH is back at work early tomorrow so I’m happy to potter at it then.

Still Christmas here ✨✨❤️❤️

Tree still up and decs, candles lit, 🔥 DD7 bedroom has been changed around all cosy, Weve been so busy with plans and not been home much. I’m watching the housemaid in the cinema today with my sister & Niece. I’m in the salon Monday and NYE but then off until the 5th when DD back in school and we’re back to work and normality. So my partner, DD and I will be relaxing and enjoying the cosy house. Tree etc will stay up until next weekend.

soccermum10 · 28/12/2025 11:31

Tree is still up. Cupboard is full of chocolate and biscuits 🤦‍♀️Presents have been put away but we still have some to open and give as MIL has been poorly.

Miranda65 · 28/12/2025 11:33

Exactly the same as my pre-Christmas house.
Didn't have a tree, turkey.... or kids!
(But a tree should be for the 12 Days, so goes up 24/12 and comes down 5/1).

YellowCherry · 28/12/2025 11:39

Tree and decorations will be up until next weekend. Presents are still scattered around (we were here on Christmas morning but have been away since then - got back from MILs late last night) and will hopefully be tidied up today. Not many leftovers as we weren't hosting, but some mince pies, cheese and chocolates hanging about.

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/12/2025 11:44

Xmas cards gone. Decorations are still up (only put them up on the 21st) but will be coming down on New Years Eve.

Boys presents still in the dining room, which they will be told to shift out today.

House is clean and tidy, hoovered on Boxing Day and yesterday, will also nip it over again this afternoon.

Taytocrisps · 28/12/2025 11:47

I was busy with family the past few days, so I'm really relishing the peace and quiet today. DD (works in retail) is working. DCats are alternating between sleeping and getting high on catnip playing with their new toys.

It's traditional here to leave your tree and decorations up until Little Christmas (6th January), but I'll take them down a little early (4th maybe?) as I'm hosting my book club on the 6th, so I'll be busy shopping for that and preparing my house for visitors.

It's been a busy few days, so my presents haven't been fully opened. I unwrapped them, but I haven't taken them out of their boxes and discarded all of the packaging.

I've a few jobs to do around the house today, but nothing major. I want to make a start on my bookclub book also. I think I'll alternate between fun stuff and chores. I cooked a big dinner yesterday, so I've leftovers for today.

I bought a nice amount of goodies, but then I was gifted a lot more. I'm going to e-mail a local foodbank and ask if they would be interested in the excess chocolates and biscuits.

I promised two friends that I would meet up with them for coffee between Christmas and New Year, so I need to give them a shout and set a date.

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/12/2025 11:48

Trees up till 12th night, no small kids here, our presents are in a box on bedroom floor. Lots of cheese still left, we had a clean up before DH took MIL back down South late last night. Was expecting a night totally alone but DS and his GF returned to say bye to Granny as they had gone to her parents for Boxing Day and have ended up staying. As they were here it delayed departure by 3 hours. They got to her house at 1am and I stayed up for arrival msg.

It’s been such a lovely time I feel like I know DS GF much better now.

youalright · 28/12/2025 11:48

Dec's still up, toys everywhere, still living off cheese and chocolate.

ChrimboLimbo · 28/12/2025 11:49

Kitchen and bathrooms are clean, but everything else is chaos, but good chaos. Presents everywhere, still some wrapping around.
Had a lovely escape from reality. Cleaning commences tomorrow.

Good grief, no! All the decorations are still going strong and I’ve family arriving on the 30th for Hogmanay and New Year.

Tidy house, though!

The season ends at Epiphany aka Twelfth Night.

NormasArse · 28/12/2025 11:51

The tree will stay up until we’ve had our real Christmas in January, when my grandson is here from overseas.

BauhausOfEliott · 28/12/2025 11:56

Tree still up. I’d find it really fucking joyless to take it down before New Year. There are two little piles of gifts by each side of the sofa, mine and DP’s. Loads of turkey and stuffing still in the fridge, plus trifle and mincemeat frangipane tart left over. Lots of cheese left and chocolates still to eat. We took my mum home yesterday and it’s just me and DP off work together now until 5 Jan. It’s the best part of Christmas!

BitterTits · 28/12/2025 12:01

Full decorations until Sunday 3rd. I'll take e a few bits down then as I won't have time to do it in the week. Trees will stay up, decorated and lit until Twelfth Night.

Eggseleventwelve · 28/12/2025 12:02

All decs staying in situe until 6th.
House fairly tidy,no children at home now.
Eeeking out food for another couple of days before I can face the shop’s next week.
Enjoying the peace and quiet now that all family have left.
Granddaughter coming for sleepover tomorrow so the mess will return!

Clockyclockz · 28/12/2025 12:03

Tree & decorations don’t come down until Jan here.

Floor has been hoovered.
DCs rooms are no go areas in terms of mess.
Dishwasher has been going continuously but there is a small pile of handwash only items that is piling up each day.
Think we will also finish the turkey today.

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 28/12/2025 12:06

All down and clean now. New toys to be built in 1 corner of the playroom and that's it.
I've had 16 people round over 2 days and the house definitely showed that.
I like to see NY in with it lovely and clear.

spiderlight · 28/12/2025 12:20

Tree is still up but I'm dying to take it down. Will wait until after NYE though. Most of the presents are tidied away, as DS has been in bed with a very nasty dose of flu since Christmas evening so everything we were planning to do has been cancelled. He's 18 so there haven't been loads of toys as such - just tech, camera equipment and clothes.

Cat1504 · 28/12/2025 12:22

Tree up ….will come down some time next week….washing up to date….house clean and tidy……did a little food shop yesterday tea time …in work tomorrow

pteromum · 28/12/2025 12:28

For the first year ever mine came down this morning. House clean and everything away. Heading to CP tomorrow for new year so couldn’t face coming back to it. Just need to pack for that now

Lavenderandbrown · 28/12/2025 12:31

Going to see housemaid tonite with 7 female relatives

going to Christmas party today on DH side

we ALL leave out trees up until at least New Year’s Day. Would be shocked if I visited someone and the tree was already gone

working thru leftover food from hosting 14
for Christmas

DC still at home. Dd leaves tomorrow to return home 8 hrs

small pile of gifts still near tree

I have vacuumed hand mopped wooden floors multiple loads of laundry and dishes. Normal routine there

returned some items to shops

i think this early dissembling of Christmas is an Instagram driven idea…never ever done in my family. I’m not tired of any part of the holiday decorating. Am little tired of food and cleaning up the kitchen

my refrigerator door is exhausted. Open and close open and close. It’s amusing to note how many times my family one after another open and close the refrigerator

Clockyclockz · 28/12/2025 12:32

@pteromum Have you done CP at this time before? I was thinking it was a good time to visit.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/12/2025 12:36

Leftovers in the fridge, bits of wrapping paper on the floor, not all presents put away, tree definitely still up.

I'm going to flick the hoover around later on. I'm torn between trying to streach Christmas out and being more relaxed about housework and descending into chaos. Chaos is marginally winning right now.
